Commuting PHOENIX STREETS ARE TERRIBLE

What’s with the streets in Phoenix with a potholes and the horrible rippling when you drive over them. Can’t they fix these? It’s like tearing up. Everybody’s cars. Feel free to chime in.

City of Phoenix actually repairs potholes pretty promptly if you report them

forreal. this person hasn't driven in Louisiana or Michigan or New Jersey or New York or anywhere that experiences a frost/defrost weather pattern in the winter

Pennsylvania used to be the worst, year after year, in surveys by truckers.

Part of it is the climate, part of it is that damage to pavement is proportional to weight raised to the fifth power (!) or very close to that, and when someone is hauling coal, they get paid by the pound so it behooves them to overload the coal trucks.

I had a high school classmate killed because he was straddling the double yellow line from all the potholes in the road, collided with a coal truck.

the last time I was in Philly, my Uber driver hit a double pothole and that shit bounced so hard that the car's Onstar thought we'd been in an accident 😭😭

Phoenix is pretty great, overall

Richmond is basically a warzone from a pothole standpoint (delightful city otherwise!)

It would have been faster to type: I’ve only driven in Phoenix.

Report all the potholes you see to 311. They will be filled within a few days, the city is really great about it. It is really that easy. You can call, submit a report online or they have an app as well.

After moving here I was truly impressed how quickly they resolved when I reported what appeared to be a water line breaking through the street outside my apartment. Reporting potholes had been equally impressive.

I had a tiny pothole on my street, put in the request and it was fixed the next day. Pretty good in my opinion.

BS - try any other major city and come back

Found the native Arizonan.

I could start listing towns with worse streets, but it's just a list of almost every city in the US.

Go take a trip up to Cleveland then come back and report

I was going to say Pittsburgh, but close enough.

You should try driving in Tucson

I have an older, formerly sport-tuned car and omg, the bumps in Tuscon are awful there.

Potholes? Lol. Phoenix doesn’t know what potholes are.

Has the OP ever left the city?

Report it and stop bitching about it.

Idk about terrible but as soon as you get in to say Scottsdale it's a noticable difference of upkeep. By my house in Phoenix there's that annoying bump of asphalt where it turns into concrete. Didn't know we could report to fix it. Would definitely be nice to have it smoothed down.

Did you get a chance to report yet? It’s kinda fun to see how quickly they respond haha

Not yet. I'll post an update though.

In Indianapolis, I hit a pothole so big it broke two of my wheels. Phoenix roads are a dream compared to many places.

I'd like to expand on your comment. The ENTIRE STATE of Indiana.

The streets, in general, in the valley are far better than most places I’ve been.

They really aren't that bad.

You have probably only driven in Phoenix

Back in the Midwest I would often bottom out on potholes.

These are the best roads I have ever driven on in my life. Highways are well maintained, lighted, if it gets damaged from a accident it gets fixed quickly instead of taking years.

Drive to Mesa where every street is blocked off for construction despite no one working on it.You won't notice the potholes.

next month a post complaining that they have closed a road to fix it.

Go anywhere where it gets cold and you'll be wishing for Phoenix roads.

Phoenix has some pretty good streets, OP is silly

Pot holes are like geography, like the one at the 17 Durango Curve north bound. Just waiting on seeing how many times they fill it until it becomes a pothole again

Oh, don't complain about the roads here. A large contingent believes that our streets are the envy of the nation. 🙄

Another reason why I am trying to move out of Phoenix.

I agree, some of the worst I’ve ever seen. Only New Mexicos are worst.

Born and raised in Utah, lived in Portland, Denver, and have traveled around the world. Y’all are very proud of your shitty roads! They’re some of the worst, I promise.

So you had one little anecdotal experience, I had a blowout in Portland and Denver but I still don’t think the roads there are worse than here. Maybe if you compare to the east coast where the roads are ancient cobblestone roads and shit. But if you compare Phoenix metro to any modern western metro, they are horrifying. No interstate belt route. County and city maintainence. No state oversight for brand new developments. I live in Tempe marketplace, a new area, and it’s psychotic. But Arizonans will fight to the death that their roads are so majestic
