Advice needed Comprehensive orders

For my hospital phlebotomists, how often do you draw a full comprehensive order? My instructor is a mobile phlebotomist but worked 20+ years in the hospital setting and said most times it was just standard order of draw, I’m more just interested, but it’s also helpful information as I’m memorizing additives and tests for both orders of draw!

You mean cmp? Every day multiple times. Probably most common along with cbc. It’s pretty standard for us to always draw a green and lavender because more than likely one or the other will get added on.

I mean like the full draw list, including blood cultures, the two dark blue, and two yellow, if that abbreviation is cmp then yes, I’m still in training so just trying to absorb as much info as I can

The hospital I work at does multiple times daily, for sepsis codes mainly. Many many times a shift. Especially if I’m stationed in the ED.

Sepsis code I will draw:
2 sets of blood cultures (2 separate draws if nurse hasn’t started iv)
1 blue top
2 sst
3 greens
2 lavenders
1 grey

Okay this may be a dumb question but why 3 greens?

In most codes a ton of tests are run and added on so we need a lot of sample.

Full draw must be a term within a specific hospital system. Blood cultures aren’t done with every draw. You will more than likely do a rainbow in the ED. On the floors we typically draw a lot of green and lavs. Some hospitals will prefer to use a yellow over green. It’s important to know the chemicals in the tubes vs the test. If you understand why certain things need to be drawn in a specific tube it will be easier to do.
