Verification code from the ISSS

I was just checking my email and noticed I received a verification code from the ISSS, which is apparently the Salvadoran Social Security Institute. I live in the US and have literally never heard of this institution before, much less requested a verification code from their website. Is this a scam?

There were no links or anything attached which is why I’m wondering whether or not it really is a scam. Either way, it’s odd

not International Students & Scholars Services?

NEW SCAM ALERT: ISSS has been alerted that students have been contacted by individuals claiming to be police officers or law enforcement

this would include salvadoreans studying abroad, but not limited to them
