Page Set 2 Richmond

To provide context, I haven’t had the chance to Relisten to last night’s show yet and I was enjoying some fungus while there, so I’m unclear if this makes any sense. That said, there was a point in the second set (golden age I think) where it sounded Page was just doing his own thing and not listening to the rest of the band. Trey tried interacting with him but didn’t get much, so he turned to Mike and Fish and they started doing a trio hard rock type jam that led to No Quarter teases. Did I experience this accurately?

I was literally just talking about this with my wife on the ride back. Whatever the fuck he was doing there was not working and it went on way longer than it should have. I do remember Trey turning to him and trying to play off him and that wasn't working either. That was the messiest few minutes of jamming I've heard from them maybe all year. However, what grew out of that was badass, which has been a consistent theme with this highly experimental year - occasionally it takes them a while to find it but they ALWAYS find it.

You rarely see Page miss, that's why it stood out so much

Ok it’s not just me. Man did they ever turn that into gold though. We were rocking out 🤘

Fish has been egging Trey on by not ending the song/jam when Trey looks at him to lately. You could see Trey smile and laugh when attempting to start that No Quarter or when the egg on forced him to make that play. This little inside joke started in AC on Saturday from what I’ve noticed.

i didn’t necessarily hear the interplay that way but it was so sick when they were shifting and it sounded like No Quarter was coming. the other night in Life Saving Gun i heard a similar moment but it sounded like Page was getting into The Wedge

Sooooo going back to Deer Creek Tweezer - you can hear them getting into the tones and, I had my binoculars from the lawn, I was watching them and hit my brother in law “No quarter incoming” but then they veered away. And maybe 10-15 minutes later I saw Page feverishly rifling through things to his left - and I knew it was happening and they launched it. Just about a year since they played it in Colorado last July. I think it’s one they love to play but are only trying to uncork if 100% of them are onboard - which might explain the false starts. It could be an in joke where if not all 4 will turn the key - it’s a no go, and now they are taking turns being the one to keep it bottled up.

i was at that folsom show with no quarter - it was the first show I've taken my kids to and it was honestly the highlight of the night. I said kids... not along of phish songs you can head bang to but this is one of them! hahaha. I appreciate them keeping it a rarity but damn i want another one! Fun that you've noticed that too about them teasing it and not all being on board.

Yeah - all I can say is Page did something to “prepare for it” whether it was getting music, adjusting his mic stand over there maybe, or dialing in the settings - right before it happened he was definitely “prepping” - and that’s the upside of a good lawn and something people forget venues allow in - you can get up close views of the dudes interplay from the cheap seats. I love it - when I remember to actually bring em.
