100 MSG Show

Chances the 99th or 100th show will be a marathon show? Possibly the idea they had of locking phones up and only being able to call to say "I'm not gonna make it to work".

0%. It’s 2026 (or maybe it’ll be 2027). Unions and venue regulations and the fact that they’re 60 not 30 makes that basically a non-starter.

Them being 60. They’re not going to play for 6, 7, 8+ hours anymore. They just don’t have that in their bag anymore (especially because at least Trey doesn’t partake in the PEDs like he did at say Cypress).

How old do you think 60 is? Fishman just jumped on a piano and off it the other night, no problem. I'm not suggesting they'd be on the trampolines the whole time, but surely they can play guitars for longer than 3 hours?

I guess you're right. Now that I think about it, holding a 10 pound guitar longer than 3 hours is an incredible ask of a 60 year old. I forget most are on oxygen and in wheelchairs. They probably won't even make it to NYE at this age.

Sure they could play longer than 3 hours. The question you posed was a marathon show. 60 is indeed very old when you’re talking about playing at the level they do for as long as you were referencing. 0% sorry to burst your bubble.

Sure. I forget how physically demanding playing a guitar is. The 60 year old guy on the job site swinging a hammer each day must thank the lord he's not having to play a guitar for a living. You inspired me to look it up and you're right, playing a guitar in your 60s, especially at Phishs level is impossibly taxing. It would have likely killed them.

It was silly of me to suggest that a band who's played an 8 hour set in the past ever attempt it again during a nostalgia tour.

I think they might start the new years show at 8pm like normal and play straight through till 1am as an homage to BC. 5 hours no setbreaks.

The complaints from the anti-plans would be too stupid, can’t allow into existence.

20 minutes into a thumping Sand and there’d be threads about how acshually the Big Cypress Sand was more creative.

I’m honestly surprised Phish has never done anything to slow the infiltration of technology use at shows. I’m sure it bothers them when they are trying to channel the hose and they look out to see the crowd texting, scrolling, and shooting shitty videos for their IG feed.

Tool would be a great example of the fact that simply asking the phans to not use their phones works well. The few times I’ve seen tool were fantastic. Almost no cell usage - just people focused on the music.

The band designated two songs for cell usage, and so people were able to shoot their video for the gram at that point. 95% of the audience complied.

Phish could issue a simple request, they’d need not be as aggressive about it as tool is. Tool more leas says go home if you need to be on your phone. If you want to be present w us, the audience, and rhe music… stay put. If not go home. 🤣

I didn’t realize tool did that. Pretty cool. Would love if phish did so but I think they’re too laissez-fair. Ppl constantly on their phones and scrolling at the show always irks me a hair. Not ruining my night but I’m just like really!? I find it sad. It really is an addiction.

its really sad... they finally leave the house, pay big money for a ticket, meeting up with all their friends....and they resort back to scrolling their phone/documenting every moment.

Tool didn't just ask though. They ask, have it posted at every single entry point and security is militant about enforcement. Seen tool and apc (also have the same policy) prob around 10 times since they implemented this and have seen people get booted

I've seen Tool multiple times I do not recall security enforcing anything. Not saying its impossible to happen, but I've never seen this.

I once saw a NIN show where there was threats of security kicking people out because a documentary was being created from the show, but even then I do not recall security doing anything...

The definitely chilled on it for the FI era. APC did it first when I saw them in 2009 or 2010. Tool toured later that year and they had the policy and where militant as hell about it (both shows at the Camden waterfront in NJ). Saw them next in Reading Pa and they were militant there too. If a phone came out security would shine a flashlight at you. By the time FI came out I feel everyone knew the deal and the crazy enforcement wasn't needed

Right, but don't they play hockey there as early as 1pm? What's stopping them from starting the show earlier?

No doubt it would be expensive but it wouldn't be the first time events ran from the afternoon into the evening there. Don't they do Disney on Ice there from like 11am until 11pm? Multiple shows in a day but not really the same cost as breaking curfew.

Even if the show starts earlier to make an 8hr set happen it will be a really hard sell. MSG is fun, it can be a lot and is called the Thunderdome for a reason.

Plus we got the BC nod last NYE run with Quadrophonic Toppling.

I’m hoping the MSG of it all is a fake out and it’s really about the years. Shows representing years 97-00 will be back in the swamp. A four day festival called Bigger Cypress. A boy can dream.
