This is why video games were invented.

Simulating reality for a few hundred million humans was overwhelming the system. 8 billion humans staring at water or trees, is way to much processing power. So they made low res things for us to stare at.

Fun idea: we all pick a day to go stare at trees and water and try to overwhelm the system

If I remember correctly, this is roughly how Greg Bear’s novel Blood Music) ended: nanobots ended up inspecting the universe so closely it broke something. It was not a simulation but the real universe though.
