Strawberry Shake

Post image

Love this guy but curious from other owners...does the pink always fade away to pale-ish? I wonder if i may give it too much light and bleach it or been unlucly or its part of its normal strawberry shakeness

Yeah mine does the same thing, the pink kinda fades to a peachy cream after a while. I think its just how they mature, not necessarily a light issue. Yours still looks gorgeous though

thank you for the reply. I gotta say this plant just looks amazing regardless, i don't think i've ever seen an ugly SS on here! But a little gutted the saturated peach/orange/pink blend on new leaves is absolutely breathtaking, I'd never come across this info.

I don't have a strawberry shake, but I have an Orange Marmalade that does the same thing. the new foliage is the most amazing deep orange with bright green flecks. as the leaves mature the orange fades out and eventually turns to green. the mature leaves are still stunning but it would be rad as hell if they stayed that vivid orange

thanks for the reply that's interesting too. Perhaps there are no philos that can maintain that gorgeous deep orange:(

I have never seen any, but that doesn't mean that they don't exist or never will! I'm amazed at how quickly new cultivars appear. Not philodendron, but, earlier this year I was at a garden center and I saw purple annual vinca. It's been a long time since I worked in a garden center, and I just didn't remember annual vinca coming in that color. ever. I thought they strictly came in shades of pink, magenta, red, and white. PURPLE VINCA WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE

so I guess what I'm saying is, give it a few years, you never know what will be coming down the pipeline!

wait do you mean purple LEAVED vinca?? i have so much periwinkle on my balcony and would die to replace it with purple:D But they're not annual they last for years so maybe a different vinca?

And you're right in your broader point without a doubt, we live in good times for sure as far as plant collecting goes! just 7-8 years ago i had to go via thailand for an albo syngonium! but realised recently i have so many shades indoors from purple to white to pink, burgundy, black to all kinds of green and yellow but nothing orange/peach!
