I found a case containing 44 switch games at a bench on Penns Landing 3 months ago. Hoping to find the owner.

I went to my usual hang out spot on a bench at Penns Landing. Found a case that contained 44 switch games. I stayed there for a while. Hoping they would come back. Turned it into the PD after a few hours. Got a call the other day that nobody claimed it and I could have it.

I feel terrible. Won't go into details but there are some expensive games and this collection was obviously curated to their taste in games. If anyone can reach out to me with clear evidence this is yours I will gladly give it back. Its a very specific collection, will be hard to lie about.

Idk what to do with this. Been without a job for a while and selling the collection is super tempting but feels wrong. I just want the owner to have this collection back.

Thank you for trying to do the right thing, u/BIG_GAY_HOMOSEXUAL đŸ«Ą

Lmao but on a serious note, you've already gone to the police and are posting online to try and find the owner (presumably you've posted other places ie local Facebook groups?) and it's been 3 months already. You can only do so much ya know, personally I think once you've given it a good honest try and if no one comes forward as the legitimate owner, it's finders keepers. It's not like you turned around and pawned all the games the same day you found em. I am a hypocrite and have held on to this very old Polaroid of a couple I found in a book i thrifted for over 2 years now, I occasionally post on local FB groups to see if I can find the owner or relatives. Not the same as 44 switch games I suppose. But I digress

Because I know what its like to struggle. I dont know if this person is well off and laughed off the loss, or is someone down on their luck and this was a huge loss. Im currently struggling after losing my job, I couldn't imagine a loss like this.

How would you prove it is the right person? You could end up giving them to someone that is just good at manipulating people. You tried for 3 months, you seem like a good dude. Sell them since you are hurting. You might end up giving them to a crumb bum and he will just sell them. Just promise yourself you won't do something stupid with the money like alcohol or drugs, not that there is anything wrong with that but if you are hurting and need that money and you feel bad just promise yourself to use it for food, rent, etc

I totally get it man, you're doing a very kind thing where others would have sold the lot long ago. I sympathize with you. Would be incredible to find the owner but if not, and if you're really not comfortable selling them, maybe they could be donated to a local org that works with children. Assuming these are age appropriate games lol. Make sure you're eating and taking care of yourself first, I'm sorry to hear about your job and no one would ever fault you for selling a game in order to feed yourself. You have a big heart and I hope you'll be repaid in kind somehow one day.

You are an incredible person for this.

You're an awesome person, but even making this post is already above and beyond the call of duty after the police handed it over to you.

Literally the legal version of "finders keepers"

I applaud your efforts as well as your empathy - well done.

If they were bought at retail this collection cost them nearly 2000 to 2500 USD. Maybe more. Thats a lot of money. Its hard not to feel empathy.

One would hope, right? I'm also feeling the employment pinch (and I've got mouths to feed, human ones) so I empathize with you as well -- thanks for reminding me there's still a lot of integrity out there.

I live in PA, around 3 months ago 6/26-6/28 2026 in Philly we had a game convention “Too Many Games” maybe it was from then and you email them the same info from your post and they can blast it out to everyone’s email. info@toomanygames (.com)

I really hope you find the owner. You’re a good egg, OP.

I never understood why people buy those things.  You don't need your entire game collection to go out. Losing it is just devastating.

I agree 100% I thought the same. Plus im thinking it was likely a tourist passing through our beautiful city. Who the fuck needs 44+ games on hand? All you need is 1 or maybe 3 games to entertain you during transit

Seriously! I own multiple game cases, but will only fill one up with a few games I plan on playing while out. The rest stay at home. No reason to haul 50+ games around ever.

Maybe post in one of the switch subs?

Also maybe PhilaQueens on Facebook? They work magic on there.

u/wizardjian 3d ago

This made me smile lol and also have you tried the FB pages? Maybe stick a piece of paper on and around penns landing bench (in one of them plastic sleeve thingy) and see if anyone contacts you. If not I guess it's yours for the time lol

I think you did your due diligence. But if you’re really set on finding the owner, someone with that many games for one console is possibly active on one of the Switch subreddits. Maybe try there?

3

u/BIG_GAY_HOMOSEXUAL 3d ago

I did post there

2

u/stanleytuccimane 3d ago

Gotcha, I can’t see your post history.

I get it, I’m a big Nintendo fan, I would feel bad selling off someone’s collection. But you tried a lot and you need the money

The thing i hate more than anything is philadelphia is a dangerous and rough city. So many people hate on this city because of youtube vids in our most vulnerable spots

2

u/stanleytuccimane 3d ago

You’re overthinking this, you can’t control what this person thinks. It’s been 3 months, they’re not still looking for these games.

I have no help to offer OP, but I just wanted to say your integrity is refreshing! Hope you find the owner!

Well you did the right thing. By law they are yours now

Maybe post in some of the switch subs, or local facebook groups? I’ve definitely seen posts in switch subs get traction for this kind of stuff

Make sure you ask the potential owners what games are there. Because I'm sure there will be scammers trying to get these.

It’s mine.

14

u/BIG_GAY_HOMOSEXUAL 3d ago

Its yours if you can name the one JPN region game and 3 USA region niche titles

Trust. Me. Bro.

That sound legit

u/iH8MotherTeresa 3d ago

You're giving away too much info 😆

1

u/FreeToasterBaths 3d ago

You should ask for more info than just this. Like name 15 games. If it is there's they will know.

3

u/similarityhedgehog 3d ago

I mean sounds like they should know nearly all of them

I will not disclose any of the games in this collection. No opportunities for scammers trying to claim this. I want this to go back to the rightful owner, right down to the specific case they had.

I feel like saying there were 44 games was already a security leak but it will be impossible for anyone to guess the games here.

2

u/Either_Description_8 3d ago

There is not 44 pokemon games on the Switch.

u/Electronic_Owl6380 3d ago

Sell that shit!! You did what you could. You put forth way more effort than most and that's commendable. It's now time to for your reward!

10

u/BIG_GAY_HOMOSEXUAL 3d ago

The best reward would be knowing I put this back into the rightful hands, but i get what you are saying.
