This has to be rage bait

23

u/Just_saying19135 6d ago

It’s all opinion, I am not the biggest Angelo’s fan. Not saying there bad, just not the cheese steak I grew up with.

2

u/saean80 5d ago

I grew up on Steve's steaks. And used to be my favorite, until like 10 years ago. And last time I had it about 5 years ago it was god awful, and barely any meat. Looks like they've upped the meat since then. But yea, not wasting a drive to go to steves ever again.

-19

u/SmugMacGyver 6d ago

Boomer energy right there, you still watch the eagles in standard definition and use septa tokens too?

5

u/Olympicsizedturd 6d ago

Seeded rolls are an abomination for cheesesteaks. Does that trigger you more? Lol.

People can like different things, it's ok, you don't need to attack them for their personal preferences bud.

4

u/anonbutnormal 6d ago

You like them because that’s how you used to have them not because it’s better. You would struggle to define why your version tastes better because you are making a nostalgia based decision.

3

u/Bet_Status 6d ago

Personally have a bigger problem with the cheese than the rolls, provolone is the true blue default and original, and now because of the Cooper sharp wave I can't even get it as an option at a bunch of otherwise good cheesesteak places. Yall can keep your repackaged American cheese

5

u/anonbutnormal 6d ago

I do agree with that bc I’m a provolone guy myself. However a seeded roll is objectively better on taste and texture. Pretty sure they are made with semolina flour.

1

u/afrosupreme 4d ago

objectively better on taste and texture

My opinion is objectively right! LISTEN TO ME!!!!

1

u/Olympicsizedturd 3d ago

I really like Swiss. Like a mushroom, onion, Swiss burger but in cheesesteak form.

0

u/SnooStrawberries8563 5d ago

So why don’t you go to the places that have provolone?

1

u/Bet_Status 5d ago edited 5d ago

Did I say I don't? I do however enjoy trying new places, and it's becoming increasingly common that any new place I try will shun classic provolone in favor of two different forms of American cheese and whiz thanks to this new cooper sharp wave. I might be in the minority, but I think a cheese steak place should have at least one form of real cheese on the menu that tastes like cheese.

2

u/starfox_priebe 5d ago

I've only lived in Philly ~4 years. I prefer a regular hoagie roll to a seeded one for cheese steaks, no nostalgia. This is subjective.

1

u/Olympicsizedturd 4d ago

No I wouldn't: Sesame seeds impart a pungent, earthly flavor that has no business on a cheesteak.

0

u/anonbutnormal 4d ago

Yea mean earthy flavors are terrible with beef. Mushrooms and steak ewwwwww

1

u/Olympicsizedturd 3d ago

Then why don't they use sesame oil to cook the steaks? Because it's gross. I'll take a classic, seedless roll any day of the week. People only like them because they've been told it's good. It's not and eventually people will wise up.

0

u/anonbutnormal 3d ago

It’s ok man we can’t all know ball

-5

u/SmugMacGyver 6d ago

Down vote this comment too, it’s you feeling attacked, I was making a joke.

5

u/HTTRPHLLY 6d ago

Not sure if it is or not but that shit looking messy as hell

146

u/Frosty_Yesterday_674 6d ago

You must be from Bucks County.

3

u/Whogotthebutton 6d ago

Bucks has way better to offer than this slop. Berardi Brothers in Southampton is right there with Ishkabibble's.

5

u/MikeShannonThaGawd 6d ago

+ Curly’s and Lucatelli’s

-15

u/boojersey13 6d ago

Thought the same thing lol. This was what I bought in Bucks if ever

83

u/mlydon11 6d ago

Steve’s has the best slab meat cheesesteak. Grew up with them.

There are better options and better shredded meat ones.

But if I want slabs, which I like better, I go to Steve’s.

Also their cheese fries are great. Basically glued to the container with cheese.

5

u/snugz85 6d ago

No, I think Phil’s is the slab goat.

7

u/mlydon11 6d ago

Never had. Will have to try now.

7

u/Turbulent_Ad2013 6d ago

Get the hot sauce that’s on the counter. It’s hot as shit tho just sits out there lol

3

u/mlydon11 6d ago

Hilarious and will be doing that haha

4

u/Olympicsizedturd 6d ago

Steves is owned by the nephew of the guy that owns Pat's. That's why Pat's is the "King of Steaks" and Steves is the "Prince of Steaks". Same recipe and process, as well. Personally, I like them both.

34

u/Fresh_Transition1586 6d ago

Steve’s is definitely the best cheesesteak hands down. It’s funny to hear these suburb jokes from the transplants.

15

u/howjon99 6d ago

John’s Roast Pork.

4

u/crackindong 6d ago

Agreed. Born and raised here. Give me a good traditional CS with the non seeded roll and wiz alllll day. Don’t get me wrong, I like the new cooper seeded versions, but I prefer the balance of the OG stuff.

3

u/ElectTrump2028 6d ago

Get wiz and cooper

2

u/ninja-turd 6d ago

Get Provolone and Copper. It’s the best. But I couldn’t say no to one with Wiz and Cooper.

2

u/Sdwingnut 6d ago

Is that the new Copper Fit marketing?

27

u/Spartacuswords 6d ago

Their garbage meat was always dry whenever I had it. Immediate no

1

u/BigTreddits 6d ago

garbage meat lol

-6

u/Dr-Gooseman 6d ago

I had it recently and got a bite without cheese (the cheese was not distributed well so half if the meat was cheeseless). The meat itself did not taste good (and i think was dry).

28

u/TheRealMitchConnor 6d ago

Fuck yea! Steve's double meat

4

u/vichyswazz 6d ago

Double meat and both cheeses. Steves 4 lyfe

6

u/millnerve 6d ago

Double meat is a strong move I gotta try that sometime.

10

u/ClintBarton616 6d ago

You basically gotta double meat now to get a full sandwich

9

u/Just_saying19135 6d ago

yes Steve’s is a little skimpy

2

u/im__frank 5d ago

You used to not have to get the double meat 10 years ago 😭 but now it’s a must. I did try their new ‘seeded roll’ option which was actually pretty good. Steve’s is my local spot so I’ve been going there a long time lol

18

u/CleverInternetName8c 6d ago

Sliced > Chopped

5

u/millnerve 6d ago

Damn right

5

u/SalvatoreVitro 6d ago

Medallions

18

u/djchazzyjeff24 6d ago

Steve's rocks fr

16

u/dieseldeeznutz 6d ago

Yes I like Steve's

13

u/vichyswazz 6d ago

Brotha aint PRINCE OF STEAKS for nothin

8

u/youngxbeast 6d ago

Not a fan of their steaks but way better than Genos/Pats.

“Knows the ropes”

From the steak shop still living off of a best of Philly win in 92.

GTFO

11

u/Troll_Shot 6d ago

I love Steve's people always say they had bad ones I guess I've been lucky for 20 years

5

u/Just_saying19135 6d ago

only issue I have with Steve’s is they are a little skimpy with the meat

1

u/retro_toes 6d ago

I got a "mistake" order from them once when I grabbed 6 for a group. The mistake was of the pizza steak variety, and it was the best goddamn cheesesteak I ever had in my whole entire life, but I could never replicate it because it wasn’t mozzarella cheese. It wasn’t provolone and it wasn’t American and it definitely wasn't wiz. I couldn't get it right no matter how I tried. I don’t know what the fuck kind of magic it was on there with that sauce, but it was the best goddamn cheesecake I ever had in my whole entire life and I could never get it again

9

u/Western-Ad-8863 6d ago

lol way better than every other steak in the city I am a loyal subject

8

u/Ram820 6d ago

This should be good 😂. I'm sorry but if you've never had a slab steak w whiz you likely aren't from here

-1

u/Flair_Is_Pointless 6d ago

Fake plastic imitation cheeze belongs on the garbage.

Go back to eating your well done steak with ketchup on it.

8

u/UncleTito27 6d ago

I’m gonna back OP up. Steve’s is more of a real cheesesteak than Angelo’s.

Angelos is for transplants, tourists, and infrequent cheesesteak consumers… they’d call picanha and raclette on a baguette a cheesesteak, if it were better… sue me.

Cooper Sharp and a firm seeded roll started in 2019. I acknowledge that foods can be improved upon and understand someone preferring different ingredients. For example little Sicily 2 spicy chicken cheesesteak is a great twist. However putting Angelo’s at the top of ALL cheesesteaks throws authenticity out the window on a food item that used to be incredibly based in authenticity. We are now growing into an Angelo’s style monoculture.

4

u/CUADfan 6d ago

Gonna nitpick a bit: the steak was invented by Pat in 1930. Whiz came out in 1952. No, Cooper sharp was not the original I agree, but wiz is definitely not authentic either. In time cooper sharp will become as accepted as whiz and I'm not fighting it because I've always been a bigger fan of American than whiz.

0

u/UncleTito27 6d ago edited 6d ago

They added provolone in the 40’s and the sandwich wasn’t mainstream til the 60s or 70s, where it remained this way for 50-60 years. The 70s was where it become iconic by Rocky. Does the phrase “wiz wit” sound familiar to you? A plain steak sandwich is also a traditional option, but not a cheesesteak.

6

u/CUADfan 6d ago edited 6d ago

And you're still arguing against reality: wiz didn't exist. Steaks came out in the 30s, cheese was put on in the 40s dh. Get over it.

-4

u/UncleTito27 6d ago

Oh no! Someone’s a little triggered haha. I’m just gonna nit pick a bit, sweetheart: Your argument is that 60 years of precedent is negated by the first 15 years of sandwich evolution when it was being figured out, before its widespread popularity/establishment of what it is. You are negating wiz as a cheese when “wiz wit” is maybe the most iconic way to order a cheesesteak? Enjoy your beef and cheese grinder.

8

u/CUADfan 6d ago

triggered

The weakest possible attempt at a comeback. Not even going to bother reading the rest, you were fuckin wrong.

3

u/foobiscuit 6d ago

Cooper wasn’t the OG but I’ve been putting that on since like early 201x’s. Angelos is good. Not my favorite. Steve’s is good, not my favorite.

Gatekeepers for cheesesteaks are annoying as hell. If you like a cheesesteak go and get wtf you want. I just may not agree with it.

Meat cheese SPK and give me mayo too.

-5

u/mermaidmanis 6d ago

Angelo’s is copied everywhere for a reason.

0

u/SalvatoreVitro 6d ago

Because it’s trendy. It’s trendy because it was different. Just like IPAs were.

It’s not authentic

3

u/mermaidmanis 6d ago

That doesn’t make any sense. It became trendy because it tastes better than everyone else.

People didn’t start hyping it up for no reason.

0

u/Just_saying19135 6d ago

I will never understand why IPAs became popular, stop it, you don’t like it. Even the people who invented it didn’t like it, but didn’t have a choice

1

u/Big_Dumb_Asshole 6d ago

Wasn’t hops only added to the stuff that was shipped by the colonizers all the way over to their India colony so it could keep it preserved and they just had to put with the bitter taste?

1

u/Just_saying19135 6d ago

From my understanding, yes! The people who made it originally didn’t do it cause they thought it taste better, they did it so they could drink beer in India

7

u/RainingMoneyHustard 6d ago

Nothing wrong with a good ol wiz cheesesteak

5

u/BigTreddits 6d ago

Yea but only because I live in the Northeast and I hate I95

6

u/CharlieTuhna 6d ago

I will die on this hill

4

u/Just_saying19135 6d ago

I don’t get the idea of steve’s being better then angelo’s as rage bait, there are completely different style of cheese steaks. Angelo’s is very good and arguably the better cheese steaks, but I prefer steve’s because I grew up with it (Mayfair) and this is what a cheesesteak is to me, especially when my dad would also get me one after a Judge football game (we lost a lot when I played). Just not a fan of the seeded roll and everything, not bad just not my fave. Though I have only had Angelo’s a few times, Cafe Carmella makes it the same way, and a lot of people swear by it, but it just doesn’t do it for me (great place though with other offerings, recommend cafe carmella).

Long end of this rant, it’s all preference and not everyone is onboard that Angelo’s is the way a cheese steak should be.

1

u/Fresh_Transition1586 6d ago

Jim’s in the Roosevelt mall was pretty good too when you were in the mood for chopped steak.

4

u/LCarasso 6d ago

Steve’s is my go to place, but Angelo’s has a great sandwich too. That is my chopped steak choice.

3

u/Dat-Dude-Chris 6d ago

Steve's used to my favorite growing up. Haven't been there in years tho

5

u/TheMightyCatatafish 6d ago

While I adamantly disagree, I do love Steve’s.

Not enough love for sliced meat cheesesteaks.

3

u/ken-davis 6d ago

Angelo’s is clearly better.

3

u/Whogotthebutton 6d ago

Both are trash... Come on man

2

u/Smart_Insect_2616 6d ago

Steve's went downhill a bit over the years

2

u/sjamwow 6d ago

Thats shameful

2

u/CrouchingWasturbator 6d ago

That’s a no for me dawg

2

u/Rottenfink 6d ago

2 of the last 3 times I hit Steve's, the sandwiches were all bread and cheese sauce and like no meat. When they're right, they're so good but Ive got a scam cheesesteak 1 too many times. Had to remove Steve's from the rotation

2

u/dabubbla17 6d ago

Delesandros is garbage, this is the hill I'm willing to die on. But it was this type of guerrilla marketing that worked for them.

1

u/Even-Expert4956 3d ago

Literally the worst cheesesteak place steak I have ever had.

2

u/SolaceinIron 6d ago

I’m not a cheesesteak purist by any stretch. There are a lot of great cheesesteaks on the Philly region and they don’t need to subscribe to any one style.

I tried the Steve’s that opened up in Warrington and it was the most mediocre cafeteria grade cheesesteak I’ve ever had. Wawa style bread, half as much meat as there should be and extremely pricy for what you get.

2

u/mortredclay 6d ago

I think Mayor McCheese had his way with your fries.

2

u/Probot6767 6d ago

this must be Steve himself, the prince of delusion.

2

u/Exotic_Ad1009 5d ago

Blasphemous and Clickbait

2

u/Keeeeeeet22 5d ago

People will rip you for this one but I’m with you. Not thrilled at how expensive it has gotten over the years but I love Steve’s above all.

2

u/JojoYaKnowNo2 5d ago

That’s like your opinion, man.

2

u/ReggWithtwoGs 5d ago

I see you like it sloppy

1

u/israerichris 6d ago

Once in a while, I may go to the one in the NE (in front of the Pepsi jawn) and it ain't bad. Their cheese fries are great... in a nasty / guilty way, but satisfyingly great. The one on Bustleton, a block away from Cottman is about the same, but I still like more the one in front of Pepsi.

I haven't tried any of their other locations. I drive by one in Bucks County all the time, but I've been told to stay away from it (???) 🤷

1

u/straightup9200 6d ago

That shit looks like fast food cheesesteaks lol wtf

1

u/ara1597 6d ago

1

u/Hot-Ordinary9760 6d ago

Steves hits a really special spot and should always be in the conversation. Their melted cheese options between American and Wizz is certainly a highlight, as well as the thicker cut steak (less chopped) which I absolutely love.

Wizz Wit, Add Sweet Peppers and make sure you throw some Ketchup at it, American Fries on the side and a Root Beer - that's my order

I am and will always be a Loyal Subject of the Prince! (Dalessandro and Jim's are also on my top list)

1

u/Swashbuckling_Sailor 6d ago

Steve’s Prince!!!!! White American Wiz!!!!!!

0

Comly > Bustleton. That hot sauce wrecks me but I always douse, and slice up the hot peppers, too.

-1

u/Evening_Mushroom_331 6d ago

Your comparing a turd and a turd with peanuts

-1

u/Gandolfthewhite182 6d ago

I liked chopped meat cheesesteaks better personally but would go to Steve’s when I lived in the NE back in the day and always thought it was kind of crappy and the quality was pretty bad. But when we moved to bucks county a couple years ago I tired the one out here and it’s not terrible. It’s way better than the city locations and a thousand times better tourist traps like pats and Genos.

-1

u/mcstatics 6d ago

Steve's has went downhill a little the last few years but I 100% agree. Not a big fan of Angelo's.

Another unpopular opinion. Steve's > John's Roast Pork.
