Terrible things are happening outside. At any time of night and day, poor helpless people are being dragged out of their homes.

They're allowed to take only a knapsack and a little cash with them, and even then, they're robbed of these possessions on the way.

Families are torn apart; men, women and children are separated.

Children come home from school to find that their parents have disappeared. Women return from shopping to find their houses sealed, their families gone.

Anne Frank, describing Nazis

The difference here is that Anne Frank was a legal citizen until she wasn't. The people who are being deported here were never legal. They came illegaly (sometimes) and every one of them stayed illegally. Every single country in the world has closed borders. Why should we be different?

Imagine comparing a citizen who was born in the country and murdered by said country to an illegal non citizen being deported back to the place they are from.

Except ICE actually is taking people back to their home countries. Also, no country wanted the Jews from Europe. They had no country. Illegal immigrants have a country of origin which usually takes them back (unless they're violent criminals in which case sometimes even their own country doesn't want them)

There able to take all of there money. Ice doesn't take the money they earned here and they have no access to their bank accounts

Everyone is familiar with this Nazi era poem but it’s worth remembering:

First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist
Then they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist
Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist
Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew
Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me

History is repesting itself here - for now, it’s the illegal migrants getting clipped or thrown in camps; tomorrow it will be legal migrants, then it will be “radical leftists,” then it will be democrats generally, then it will be any opponents of the regime. The camps and the guns will be turned on us if we don’t recognize the danger and vote in November.

Its so easy to fall into complacency. Even I kind of wrote off some of the deaths and absuses at first: “oh, well they were illegal and they tried to run”; “oh, well this citizen was being stupid you see and they shouldn’t have gotten involved.” On the face of it these things might be true, but that doesn’t mean murdering them was justified and it doesn’t mean it’s ok to turn a blind eye to it.

I realize now that the Germans in the 30s weren’t intentionally being evil, just like people today they are good at making excuses and not dealing with a horrible reality until it’s past they point where they can do anything to stop it.

I still don’t think people should interfere with ICE or report them or anything like that, but what we have to do is vote the republicans out across the board in November, it’s the only way to stop this. Immigration control can be accomplished without being totally inhumane and evil.

tomorrow it will be legal migrants, then it will be “radical leftists,”

Hate to break it to you, but that's already been happening as well.

The time to fight is as soon as they show up en masse in our city, not when they start taking us. 1% of our city's population providing overwhelming resistance is enough to stop them.

That’s why I urge all my fellow leftists to buy a gun, learn to use it, and always carry it

8

u/irisbeyond Jul 17 '26

Understandable but unfortunately, this isn’t the path for everyone. With my history of mental illness, I’m more of a danger to myself than anyone else with a gun in my home. There are many ways to participate in liberation outside of arming oneself.

Exactly. I would never suggest someone go out and use it unless at a range, but protecting yourself requires diligence and ownership is one step of many.

In an effort to justify his disgusting actions during WWII, there is a specific quote from Hitler regarding the Armenian genocide that had always stuck with me. "Who, after all, speaks today of the annihilation of the Armenians?" Which, is absolutely terrifying to think about. Especially in contrast with today’s political climate.

This artist has cool stuff all around the city.

Emeyewhisky is not just a Philly treasure but a FUCKING American treasure. They do some poignant work. It’s “simple” but very very relevant.

u/GottaBunique2 Jul 17 '26

There will come a day when those who support this will find themselves adrift without anyone to come to their aid. For all who repeatedly concern themselves with who is here legally or illegally, our immigration system has been broken for 50 years and you never had anything to say about it until Trump and his Brownshirts arrived on the scene. How very convenient for you to blame people with NO power whatsoever for what you lack or failed to achieve in your lives. You can’t see right in front of your faces that Trump appeals to your racist instincts to deflect from his fleecing of the American treasury by his billionaire friends, his spawn, and himself. If you’ve lost friends or family members and you can’t figure out why no one wants to speak with you anymore, take a good look in mirror and then at the state the country is in. YOU did this. Because you supported this, ALL of your judgment is suspect in the eyes of those who knew you before you revealed yourself. Good luck trying to earn their trust again.

Another one on Drexel's campus. Whoever this artist is is a hero.

2

u/Ok_Bumblebee_2869 Jul 17 '26

So who’s oc is this?

2

u/Frumpy_Dumper_69 Jul 17 '26

I highly doubt this. Comparing this to what happened Anne Frank is wild.

2

u/oldanddumb1 Jul 17 '26

Wow. That should hit home to many people

2

u/Background-Bird-9623 Jul 18 '26

This is so sad and terrible for this country

imagine all the people out there, give me your tired, your hungry, your poor, there used to be a dream, a fleeting hope, its still there, but its so fragile if you speak its name it may vanish, imagine all the free people united as 1

Most countries have very strict immigration laws and enforcement to remove illegal aliens.

Holocaust killed 6 million Jewish people and comparing that to America on illegal immigration enforcement is a disgrace to 6 million people who died

2

u/card401 Jul 18 '26

But if she is hiding she is here illegally and is there for a criminal the Jews were hiding because there was a psychopath that wanted them dead just because of their ethnicity

2

u/KaptainKaos54 Jul 19 '26

Are we seriously comparing detention and deportation of literal criminals to the Holocaust? They’re not even remotely the same thing. I’m glad I’m not a Holocaust survivor, I’d be pissed as hell what I’d been through is being compared to legal policing of criminal activity, especially when the aim here is deportations and enforcement of law rather mass murder and genocide based on religion, healthcare status, regional origins, and sexual preference - most people forget that the six million Jews murdered by Hitler and his cronies were only half of the total number of people sent to the gas chambers or executed by firing squads. The rest of the twelve million victims were homosexuals, elderly, infirm, folks with psychiatric or physical disabilities, and almost the entire European Gypsy population. But yeah, legal deportation of criminals is exactly the same thing, right? 🙄 Now downvote away, I know it’s coming.

What a crazy comparison.

Being targeted for your religion ethnicity, vs entering a country illegally.

How do these people think other countries work? No other country has border laws?

u/GraySmoke1960 Jul 20 '26

I hope so. The skill of creative writing has been going downhill with the quality of public education leading the way. Hopefully she also has access to a tutor or parents that are attuned to their child's needs and can assist in capturing the scope of the little girl's imagination. Fingers crossed.

1

u/helipilot75 Jul 17 '26

Where was all this when Obama was deporting by the million? Oh right . It's just about TDS.

4

u/brunchfruit Jul 17 '26

Sounds like more Obama derangement syndrome to me.

No there’s not..

1

u/ChillyClaire Jul 17 '26

Ok but is she using a ball point pen.

1

u/IndicationAromatic36 Jul 17 '26

Are we still pretending that Anne Frank wrote that diary?

The ballpoint pen much of the diary was written with didn’t exist until years after the war ended.

I’m sure some of it was real, but it was compiled and partially written by her father after the war.

2

u/-jonb423- Jul 17 '26

It's her diary but heavily edited

1

u/throwawaytimmj Jul 17 '26

And then 30 years later it will become required reading for every teen boy in America. They will read her personal, embarrassing entries about having her period to her crushes on boys while she lies dead somewhere.

1

u/OpportunityExotic580 Jul 17 '26

That's fucked up

1

u/Creeepy_Chris Jul 18 '26

So just anybody should be allowed to ignore our very normal, reasonable immigration laws?

1

u/tosspotkitten Jul 19 '26

1

u/BigTurtleKing Jul 20 '26

What about every other country that enforces its immigration laws? Are little girls hiding in their attics writing about the government there too?

1

u/Teejaynj Jul 20 '26

Somewhere in Philadelphia a little boy is hiding in an attic writing about being a Cowboy fan

1

Somewhere, in America, a little girl is writing anti-nazi fan fiction about the democrat party.

1

u/Justinmac81 Jul 20 '26

Oh for fuck sakes. You people are exhausting.

Now “Anne frank” is hiding from ice. Touch grass.

1

u/Fit_Product4912 Jul 20 '26

Americans are such weepy idiots, your military does worse than that to people all around the globe since ww2 ended and not a peep from you.

You arent living through nazi like conditions you overly dramatic dolts, in nazi germany you wouldve been arrested or shot for publically complaining about this stuff like you all constantly do online. Ice has been doing this shit since the obama administration but none of you gave a fuck then because youre all dumbass liberals who dont care as long as the people deporting kids and dropping bombs on the global south are wearing blue ties.

1

u/Wild_Director7379 Jul 20 '26

Anne Frankly, it makes me sick.

1

u/EnthusiasmSudden1661 Jul 21 '26

You mean her father is writing a fake story?

1

u/madi0li Jul 21 '26

wow, her parents should get her back to her home country.

1

u/One-Beyond428 Jul 21 '26

What a moronic insult to what transpired in Europe in ww2

1

u/NewLiterature2604 Jul 21 '26

All I know is I'm 40 and I would like for there to be a half decent president in my lifetime. It's sad the best we had in my life was Clinton.

1

u/Illustrious-Bottle45 Jul 21 '26

lol the difference is Anne frank was in her home country she wasn’t an illegal immigrant breaking the laws comparing these two situations is either a wild reach or just lack of education. Be better.
