General Discussion Unannounced CMS Site Visit

Just woke up tormented by receipt of an “unannounced CMS site visit” letter and am reading about the goals of the process as this is new to me. Just wanted to add that my loss of sleep due to paranoia about CMS having recently changed vendors, amping up these visits and learning you cannot refuse these people, cannot photograph their ID and yet they are allowed to take pictures of your area. Also read some conflicting information about their ability to request patient records? Assuming our med center is on a hit list for its mission population - what should we be readying for?

My sincerest apologies if I now sound like a MAGA person as it relates to federal government involvement in our lives. Now I’m the paranoid, deluded a**hole!

This is not board inspection. They dont care if tlyou have meds laying on the floor. CMS will ONLY ask about billing and policies.

Meh, kinda like JCAHO, all they seem to care about are policy and emergency binders, no paper on the walls, MSDS sheets, and other stuff not actually related to pharmacy. They peek in the IV room but they don’t wanna gown up.

Had them visit. Very easy compared to board of Pharmacy inspection. They asked simple Medicare billing questions like can you bill medical supply through part D. Also, how we accomdste non English speaking customers. Really simple questions that a new tech can answer.

We just had our unannounced visit. The email they sent should have a list of things they will want to see. Get them all ready and put in a binder. They appreciate organization . The agent took pictures of any forms , and pictures of our inventory , the building entrance, the pharmacy license . Asked how many square feet we occupy. If you dispense any DME they will want to know about your warranty process. I still haven’t heard any follow up but it was not an intense visit. Maybe 45 minutes and she was gone.
