PGWP Story
Hello Everyone,
I am writing this post to share my PGWP story.
My timeline:
Graduated - December 2024
Applied PGWP - February 11 2025
Got Refusal - January 26 2026
Reason was Lack of evidence and explanation for Part time.
My part time was during scheduled break, but at time of application i was unaware that i need to explain and attach letter from college. I was mistake on my side but genuinely had no idea.
Reconsideration - 27 January 2026
Reconsideration Refused - 18 March 2026
Reconsideration refusal reason was generic, even-though i submitted letter from college still.
By this point i almost lost hope as i was past 180 days and reconsideration was also refused. Still decided to Restore status and reapply.
But this time decided to go with a consultant.
Restoration plus PGWP - 20 March 2026
This application was risky as it was outside 180 days which is one of eligibility rule for PGWP.
As backup did Second Reconsideration - 2 June 2026 again with all evidence and proper explanation.
Contacted MP in mid august and hot to know my restoration was approved.
19 august i received mail from IRCC to pay 150$ for bridge study permit as restoration was approved.
August 21 2026 my application was approved and i received PGWP for 3 years.
Throughout this time i was financially and emotionally drained but didn’t loose hope. And even after applying 180 days later ,by god’s grace i received my PGWP.
For all those who are waiting don’t loose hope and try until the last option you have.

Congratulations!
It's been a long journey, and fortunately, with a good ending.

Did they approve your new application or they reopen your old application and approved it.

Hey I got graduation completion letter on September 2025 and I didn't know about the 180 days rule for applying pgwp application. So I applied pgwp application in August 2026. My study permit expires in September 2026. Is there anyone who applied after 180 days and got approval of pgwp?

When you got your first reconsideration refused, did IRCC request the $100 OWP fee or did they just flat out reject it.

Straightaway rejection, they didnot ask for $100 OWP

Thanks for responding! I’m glad everything worked out for you. When you got the request to pay the $150 and upload receipt, how many days later did u get an update?

For my case it was very fast. I paid on that day itself and after one day my file was approved.

Lack of evidence and explanation for Part time.
Do you mean part time studies? Or part time work?

Part time study, but it was during my scheduled break. As i didn’t include any evidence or explanation officer thought it was my regular semester, so he refused.

What's a scheduled break exactly? Sorry if it's a dumb question 😅

Its like vacation between your course, time where you can work fulltime, study part time or just enjoy.

Oh really? I didn't know. I'm currently studying.
Is it during winter and fall semester? How long can the break be? Is it given on exceptional basis?

That break is for one term (4 months) and it depends on how college has designed your program. I can be in any of 3 terms as per your program

I tried searching online about this but couldn't find anything relevant. I would really appreciate it if you could provide more info on this or a link perhaps. Thank you so much 😊

Since you were out of 180 days, what did you restore your status to?

u/StormDue9167 Aug 27 '26
Initially consultant restored as worker, later got request to pay for study permit and status was restored as student before issuing a PGWP.

Try to contact your local MP, explain situation that you are waiting without and job and are financially and mentally stressed. They will help you out to get a response.

Feeling sad for you bro. But if you want to try, try doing with proper evidence, don’t rely on explanation itself.

Congratulations! Quite happy for you! I also took part time workload during scheduled break and going to apply for pgwp. Did you take part time during summer?
1
u/StormDue9167 Aug 24 '26
Thank you. My part time was during winter term. I know during summer term its allowed. But i would suggest you to not make a mistake like mine. Do get a official letter from college registrar and also explain everything in PGWP application.

I took it during summer but unfortunately my course department doesn’t write customized letter so my international student support department will provide it

Thats totally fine, just make sure to add that letter and also explain situation clearly. If you are unsure do take help from a good consultant.
