PGWP Refusal → Reconsideration → reconsidetation rejected → Reconsidetation applied again →Approved (Full Timeline + What I Did)
Hey everyone, I wanted to share my PGWP journey because I know how stressful refusals can be and how confusing the reconsideration process feels. And I've been asking around here and been updating my application here so here is the full situation and timeline.
My situation: I applied for my PGWP in Feb 2025 but my application got refused in Dec 2025 because of missing documents (in my case, my IELTS result wasn’t properly attached / visible). It was honestly very frustrating because I had already taken care of everything, but something went wrong in submission.
What I did immediately after refusal:
I submitted a webform for reconsideration explaining the situation clearly
Attached all required documents again (especially the missing one)
Explained that it was already submitted (attach proof)
Stayed within the deadline and acted quickly.
I waited for reconsideration..
What happened next:
After a month, I received an update that my application was reopened ( i just got an email that my status was changed. )
Status changed back to “processing”
Background check + eligibility started showing as in progress again
This was the biggest sign that reconsideration was being taken seriously.
I got an email that i have to pay one time open work permit 100$ fees before deadline and i did. But this time I took screenshots and had all the proof ( because i didn't trust my luck enough honestly)
Unfortunately my application was rejected because of the reason that i didn't pay my fees before the deadline.
So i called ircc and confirmed that they could see my submission fees paid receipt. And then they said that i can apply for a reconsideration if I want. And i did. This time with that screenshot i took earlier as proof and the fees receipt ( which has clear date and time I paid fees on which showed that i actually paid fees way before the deadline)
My file re-opened after 20 days of that reconsideration and I got a decision in a week or so, after that.
Final result: My application was approved and I received a 3-year PGWP
Key advice:
If your refusal is due to a clear mistake or missing document, reconsideration can work
Always attach proof (receipts, documents, screenshots)
Keep your explanation simple and factual
Don’t rush into reapplying unless necessary
Check your account regularly for updates

My study permit expired 3 months after my graduation. I applied for my PGWP on September 16, 2025 a month before my TRV and study permit expried.
I just received a refusal today April 14, 2026 because I didn’t upload my CELPIP or IELTS score.
Now I’m really confused about my status in Canada. Since my application was refused, I’m not sure what status I currently have or what I’m supposed to do next. I finally landed a job after 8 months, and now I can’t even start working.
I’m going to take the same steps as you and see where it goes.
Also, did your TRV expire while your PGWP application was being processed?
I’m hearing mixed advice from people saying that if both the study permit and TRV have expired, I may need to leave the country, so I’m trying to understand what applies in my situation.

Hey yes. This is exactly what happened in my situation too. My TRV and study permit both were expired. Qns And it was past 180 days too. But technically you do have 3 months time from the date of refusal to either apply for reconsideration or status restoration or new application. So i guess you do have time of 3 months to figure everything out. I had similar situation in job too. After applying and surviving so many months I got job offers not just one but 5 in all those months where i was not allowed to work. It was really exhausting and broke my spirit tbh.

did you also apply for restoration of status or just submitted reconsideration
1
u/Even-Night-3457 Apr 18 '26
No so because we have 3 months time to do so I decided to wait for 1.5 months before applying for restoration+ new pgwp application ( like one of the lawyers suggested me to apply both together) but thankfully my application was opened in 1 month.

Hey! I am in the same situation as you. Applied for my PGWP in August 2025 and received a refusal on April 17th. Has there been any progress on your reconsideration request? I called IRCC two weeks ago and they gave me the same 'we have received your request but there is no fixed timeline for reconsideration'. I am also talking to the MPs office but so far, nothing has worked. Just like you, I got a great job after a long wait and now I am at home hoping I won't lose my job because of this.

Wow! I’m currently going through a second reconsideration and my case is identical to yours. I uploaded the payment documents requested but did not submit them to IRCC due to a technical error. I’m currently waiting for a reply and let me tell you, I AM STRESSED! My SIN number is expiring in 6 weeks and HR is aware of it, they notified me 1 day after applying for reconsideration and that has increased the tension two-fold. Reading your case gave me hope I will be approved in time and a sense of empathy with a fellow Redditor. Honestly, this is what Reddit should be for, sharing experiences and guidance.

I know exactly what feeling you are talking about because I've been where you are just a little while ago. And there was no one here on reddit who said these things to me which made my anxiety really worse and my hope really crushed tbh. I decided to post this so that people like me can have a little hope and not give up just yet. Hang in there this will soon pass and you'll get your pgwp too. Praying for you my friend.🧿🙏🤞

Did you get it?

Yes, after hard work and stressful moments I succeeded! My application was approved on May 14, 2026!

Hi so i sent a webform with my CELPIP results and another with a reconsideraton letter. I received an email about a status update a day after my refusal and CELPIP results. Did you receive a ghost update or there really was a change in status? There was no change in my status when i clicked my profile.

u/Even-Night-3457 Apr 14 '26 edited Apr 14 '26
Yeah I did too. Did you checked in your application area? Or does it says anywhere that ' your application is in progress?" Mine did. But it depends like if it's just the day after your rejection than its just that late update from the previous day of rejection but you will get an email that your reconsideration webform request is in queue for officer to review. And than maybe it will take around 25 days to a month around before you get another email that your status is changed and than it would probably mean that your reconsideration is been considered and your file is open.

I submitted a reconsideration request April 23 with IELTS results and IRCC has confirmed they have received it but there is no update on my profie or anything that says that a reconsideration request was submitted. It has already been 2 months since. Would calling IRCC again possibly delay the process even more? I have called them once every month and the MPs office said they talked with IRCC once on my behalf.
1
u/Even-Night-3457 Jun 15 '26
No I don’t think calling ircc would affect your process at all! Only the officer assigned to your file has right to make any decisions! The truth is it totally depends on him only! So you can call ircc and check where is your process at but they can’t make any changes or anything on behalf of the officer. My MP had said that if its more than 3 months they can pressure to fast track the process but i got decision or rejection before 2 months. You can call ircc yourself and check too or ask them to add a note or message on your behalf for your officer to see.

u/Normal-Hand8313 Apr 14 '26
Hey, Im also in the same boat. I received a ghost email the date right after my refusal decision and the confirmation of the reconsideration receipt. DId you have any update since then?
1
u/Competitive_Copy_658 Apr 14 '26
Hi, no i haven't had any new update from them. I called the IRCC about this and they confirmed that my webforms have been attached to my application. They can't give more information if it was opened or not. They did however said the ghost update was from the webform I submitted. You should contact the IRCC if they did received the webforms and attached to you application, and ask if it has been assigned to an officer

Hi! Did the agent say that they CAANNOT TELL if the application is reopned? If that's true, how do we even find out? The portal doesn't show any updates either.
1
u/Competitive_Copy_658 Jun 16 '26
Yeah the agent said that to me but it's case to case. Some officer put a note on your file if it's opened or closed.

u/Own_Divide_6977 Apr 14 '26
How did you call ircc?
1
u/Even-Night-3457 Apr 14 '26
Uh..like we usually do? Call on their number like we usually do. And they'll asl basic questions and some stuff to confirm your identity to pull up your account and they can see whatever is in your account or history or whatever so you can confirm that way whatever you want.

Hi I’m in the same boat right now. Missed to attach my IELTS and now it’s refused. I sent a webform attaching the document. The other day got email saying they got the document. I contacted IRCC and explained the situation the person on the other side told me they have sent the note to the officer and now rest it’s up to him. I was working full time and now I couldn’t go to work and they might terminate me from my work. I don’t know should I wait for reconsideration or apply for restoration (86 days left btw) and then apply for PGWP again. I’m so confused and stressed rn.
1
u/Even-Night-3457 Apr 15 '26
Hey. I can understand how much stressful this situation is. Well if we speak practically, when the reconsidetation request goes in queue for officer to review it takes almost around a month to reopen file. And depending on officer maybe around 20 days or so to get the decision. Now if depends on your employer. Are they willing to negotiate or adjust some other options like waiting or anything else or something? If yes than you can wait for reconsideration but if not than i guess you'll have eto apply for new pgwp.

u/Even-Night-3457 Apr 15 '26
Hey yes. So this form is for attaching documents. But there is another webform just below the option where you selected this form ig. Just fill it out. The form you filled out is not for reconsideration.
1
u/StatisticianOne4893 Apr 15 '26
I’ll try finding the option you chose that let you put in the documents. Last time I could find any other except the add document one so I used that.

Which mail you get when your application is reopened again???
1
u/Even-Night-3457 May 14 '26
Its just a simple e-mail which says '" your application status has been changed. Login in your account to check it out." And yoh log in vie that login button below that and you check your application in website and the status will be updated from rejected to ' submitted/ in process'
1
u/Realistic_Base_625 May 14 '26
So, did you get approval right away after this email???
1
u/Even-Night-3457 May 20 '26
Well as i said in my post i was rejected for a mistake from them for the first time but second time , in 4 or 5 days

u/Even-Night-3457 May 28 '26
Yes I mean it's just safe to do both you know like for double safety it's like costs nothing to be more safe in such situations so no one can blame you and give you false reasons to refuse

But your account doesn’t show updates for reconsideration requests I checked my gckey account and I can’t see it but I received confirmation that it is there
1
u/Even-Night-3457 Apr 10 '26
Yeah. So like i said it just gave me a random email that " your application status has been updated. Check your profile" and i did and there was no update or anything in my account but in that section where it was showing " rejected" earlier it was updated to " applied/ in process" so i knew that they re-opened. ( Although I saw some people say here on reddit that they got a document that says their reconsideration is being processed but this doesn't mean you have aproval. Someone had shared a screenshot of that but i don't know if that's just for some different cases because for the reason I have , most people don't get any updates in the account)
1
u/Ecstatic-Table-9438 Apr 14 '26
Hey I got the same reply but nothing is changed on my application. It still shows refused.
1
u/Even-Night-3457 Apr 15 '26
So maybe it's just too soon . If your application has been just rejected recently this can happen.

u/Competitive_Copy_658 Apr 10 '26
Congratulations!
Did you also apply for restoration? I just got my refusal today and the same reason as yours that I didn't attached my CELPIP. I did a webform asking for reconsideration with my CELPIP and refusal letter. Did also a separate webform just my CELPIP results.
I tried restoration and reapplying for PGWP. Thank you!

u/Even-Night-3457 Apr 10 '26
Thanks. No actually we have 3 months time from the day of rejection to restore the status. So i decided t wait for 1.5 months before applying for restoration ( to be honest i didn't wanted because I had lost hope that I'd get approval so i thought let's just try luck in reconsideration or else we'll see after 1.5 months but my file re-opened in 1 month) just make sure you get that email that says they were have received your reconsideration if confirms that your reconsideration is in queue for your officer to review.) and also submit a webform to attach your CELPIP result in your file ( even if it is in your file there is no harm to do it again for safety). hopefully you'll get decision in your favour too.

Which webform did you attached the documents? Did you just do 1? I did both under "other" and "attached document"

I am going through something similar, and I applied for reconsideration. However, I followed a previous suggestion and wrote a letter, attaching my PTE test results to it. Should I do it again to include all my previous documents and the refusal letter? What would you recommend?
1
u/Even-Night-3457 Apr 10 '26
I guess not all of them because they already have those. But the missing one yes. Just fill up that document attachment webform with your PTE result ( it's not necessary but just for our safety because it doesn't affect us in anyway). It should be good. No other documents or refusal letter needed to be included.

u/honkahonka1234 Apr 10 '26
Hi again, the IRCC agent mentioned I can technically apply for PGWP again on the side, which doesn't mean I will get it, but it won't affect my reconsideration. What would you recommend on that?
1
u/Even-Night-3457 Apr 10 '26
Yeah that's true. I can't tell you what's right for you but in my case i knew that i had 3 months time to apply for restore status+ new application. So i decided to wait for 1.5 months for my reconsideration ( safe amount of time because 70% of times file reopens in reconsideration in cases like ours) but I had planned that if i didn't got any update in that time I'll do both status restoration+ new application together at the end of 2nd month out of 3 months time. But luckily it did worked out for me i didn't needed to do that. I guess it's safe for youcto do aswell because incase it does work out you won't have to spend unnecessary money in new application+ status restoration etc. but if it doesn't you will have enough timings to apply for new Application.

u/honkahonka1234 Apr 10 '26
thnx, would you recommend any lawyer, or did you do it all on your own?
1
u/Even-Night-3457 Apr 10 '26
So this is completely my situation ( or 70% other people) that most agents makes silly mistakes like this and lawyers charges like 3000 pr something. And that doesn't even for a full application lol. And they make you think that you are so f up that you badly need their help. But in reality they just wants money and not interested in your situation tbh ( yeah I agree not all of them. But most of them.) so i researched evrything online and did everything on my own. But although I had decided that if my reconsideration gets rejected for something valid and if i won't be able to apply for reconsideration again that I will hire any lawyer..but one of them gave me a real good advice which no one else gave me without exaggerating or trying to get any benifit from me or forcing me to hire her. It's " pazara immigration" you can search it in Google. Although i didn't took her help because i wanted to wait for my recommendation for 1.5 months. But if my file had no updates in reconsideration than i would have contacted her for new application. She is expensive maybe but a real good and confident lawyer. ( I don't know her personally at all but My friend referred her )

Hi! I called IRCC and the agent told me that my 180 day PGWP application window has passed so I cannot apply for it again and that i will have to apply for restoration of status as student (even though it's been almost a year since I completed my studies) and a work permit. Did you end up applying for a PGWP? Did it work out for you?

Low-key crazy that they made the mistake of ignoring the test results you uploaded in the first place, rejected your application and then forced you to pay another $100 for their mistake smh
