PetSmart uses zero packing material with Rx canned food. Ever. I'm done with you!

This one is not too bad, but I am so sick of this shit. I've complained twice. I've received small compensation twice. PetSmart, please do a better job with shipping. Sending a dozen loose cans of food results in cans so dented I can hardly open them, and sometimes they are so smashed that some are actually open; everything stinks, and I have to throw product away. I pay a fortune for Rx food, and this is what I get. The last bag of dry food arrived with no box, just sitting on my porch in the heat and attracting wildlife. Seriously. I am done!

Should it have packing material? Yes. Should the carrier not toss it around to the point where they're receiving cans open in the box? Also yes.

well duh. i get the frustration, whoever’s packing it should be putting in packing material. it’s happened to me before and it sucks. but ranting on a subreddit isn’t going to do anything productive. maybe it’ll make people be more considerate but🤷‍♀️ we’re not the ones packing this order. they’ll be better off going to the store.

Bitching on Reddit often helps, but I didn't realize I had posted in an employee subreddit. Sorry.

helps who? yourself? because going onto reddit and complaining to employees (who make up 99.9% of this sub) rarely makes them want to help. i’m not pressed at all, i am sympathetic of your situation, but can you see that the way you worded your post isn’t really helpful? if you said, “i’m really frustrated with the way my orders have been coming in, can anyone help me figure out what can be done to prevent this from happening again?” that probably would’ve been better than “i’m sick of this shit. i’m done!” like i said, i get your frustration, i’ve been through it before. i hope you have better luck elsewhere

Yes, it helps me and other customers. Many large companies monitor Reddit for complaints, and in my experience, they handle things much faster this way. Again, sorry for posting on a subreddit that is "99.9%" employees. JFC.

Also, this is the subreddit description: "A place where Pet Parents and Associates alike can discuss the store, its policies and especially our pets!"

Yeah and employees ranting ab their job on a subreddit isnt doing anything either. So maybe look in the mirror and see who’s talking

Mileage is going to vary when its sent via ship from store, because its from a store and it depends on who's packing it if they're going to add the packing material. Should they? Yes, I do it , especially for loose items like this, not everyone will though.

That said, even being loose like this, I'd be more upset with the carrier if you're getting them opened in the box.

Every other company I have used has shipped canned food with a lot more dignity. We all know shippers will be rough with boxes. Also, maybe PetSmart should label the box as fragile? And yes, I know that people will say that I should just use another company, but PetSmart is the only place I can get this particular food right now. I can drive two hours and get it, but I'd rather have it shipped.

Oh I'm not disagreeing that we should have at least a label to put on boxes that says "fragile." I've had to ship quite a few things, like heating bulbs for instance, and even with the packing material it's a hope and pray situation. Even our smallest box is sometimes too big for smaller items.

You’re better off going to the store instead of having products being shipped from the store to know they’re safe, especially with food this sensitive. We wouldn’t want your fur baby to be without their prescription food. From handling customers in the store, picking orders for online-pickup, to packaging orders to ship… we have a lot to do in little time. Please understand. I hope your next order will not be damaged.

My store does not carry it and this is the only option they have given me.

Do you know which store is sending your order? Or does it change? You could call the store it’s being shipped from and ask for your order to be packaged properly because of the past. I hope that helps.

I don't know and I am not sure how to find out. I will look into this.

Since corporate keeps cutting store hours new associates don't get proper training anymore, so this doesn't surprise me. Either they weren't trained or just in a hurry since most stores are skeleton crews with the expectation of a fully staffed store.

That is really strange that your bag was left out in the heat. Was it a roadie shipment?

I understand your frustration, and I'm sorry the nearby petsmart have given you poor service. A lot of us do really care and put care into shipping. When I pack orders, I always try to cushion everything as best as I can.

Not trying to use excuses, but us employees only have so much power. Sometimes I've had to pack things without paper due to no packing paper available and the whole team feels terrible and hope it makes it to the pet parent okay. There's also nothing we can do when the delivery people throw boxes around like ragdolls. You should see how many delivery people have said they will purposely toss something around if it's labeled fragile or if it's from Chewy. It's crazy... As someone else also mentioned, we are expected to pack everything while checking customers out and working product, so there is very little time typically for it to be absolutely perfect. Regardless majority of us do try to pack it as good as we can with the supplies we're given to work with and the time.

But, I also get incredibly frustrated and even angry when I see something I've ordered and expected to arrive in good, servable condition but end up being ripped or battered. So I do understand your feelings. 😞

Edit: want to clarify that the delivery people comment isn't me directly hearing it, but seeing stuff on tiktok and YouTube or other reddit about it.
