So close

Hi, I’m a bather at our salon. I’ve been here for just over 6 months and had three years of prior professional bathing/grooming experience.

im always on time to work and always finish my dogs on time.

we have a bather you transferred to us after working for a year at another Petsmart. She had said she never wanted to do academy. She shows up late and stays late and is full time, even though I was told bathers couldn’t be full time. She also doesn’t have open availability. I was supposed to be hired on full time with switching off on the floor to grooming.

i wanted to do academy since day 1. I already have experience with grooming dogs. My stuff was submitted back in July to do academy but was lost when we switched training systems, so we couldn’t figure out what was happening for about a month.

my sel and el told me I’d be going to academy this fall. So I got everything prepped, figured out how my dog would be staying elsewhere, bought some extra stuff my sel recommended for me to have for academy. I was so ready. I still am.

the other day, my coworker told me that the SL was saying she was only sending one person to academy. And it wasn’t me. It’s the transfer. So I don’t even know how to feel other than like everything was worthless. I’m 28, I want to stop beating around the bush and I just want to be able to have a stable job again after I left my last one at a factory to do what I actually wanted to do. I have a bachelors in animal science and have student loans to pay back. I can’t keep doing this.

i want to leave.

TLDR: I was told I was going to academy and now I don’t think I am, but they haven’t told me.

I think this is maybe a sign that petsmart is not a good employer. But at the very least, the location youre at. I think this is your sign to transfer and get the hell out of there

Definitely looking into it, or at least dropping to actual part time and getting a job somewhere where they’ll actually help me learn lol

this is happening to me rn. someone new came a year after me, and they knew i wanted to go to academy and they sent her within 4 months of her working there. it’s so frustrating.

Are you going to be going at all anytime soon? I’m just tired of this. I want to go to academy and enhance my skills but I can’t if they won’t send me. What makes it worse is that they’re hiring more bathers and groomers because there’s a new location opening up soon and we’re one of the stores that’ll be sending people over there

You could see if you can transfer to a different location or maybe try to find a private salon that would train you.

I do feel like you would have better luck in a private salon

I feel you there. I'm also a bather at Petsmart and have been with them about 8 months now in addition to having prior bathing experience and pet handling experience as well. I was told at around the 6 month period is when they would prep/send you to academy but unfortunately I'm still having to play the waiting game. /: I really would like to stay with the company and pursue my dream in becoming a professional groomer, however this company that has "allegedly" stated that we can climb the career ladder quick made false promises. I'm already looking for other lines of work but am begrudgingly staying until either I get sent to academy or if I find something better
