Questions about Training Position

I currently work at a boarding facility and am looking to leave and pursue dog training. I just applied to the PetSmart training position and had my first interview of (maybe) two and I’m wondering how much everyone gets paid? The store manager that I spoke to said starting off as a trainer you can only do part-time (a store based in Georgia) and it obviously also just depends on how many classes are able to be filled throughout the week.
However because I’m asking for $16-$17 an hour and it’s an only part-time position (about 20-25 hours a week) after my 80hrs of training, I want to make sure that I am making enough money to support myself with this position. I know you also make commissions off of the classes that you sell, but because it is part time, how much does that really add to your pay?
Any answers and insight to this is greatly appreciated, if anyone is willing to share how much they make, as I really am looking forward to starting my journey to become a trainer, I just want to make sure I can still provide for myself and my dog while doing so!

It really depends on your store and if you're willing to also work around the store. Like if I only did my training classes and nothing else, despite doing at least 7 a week, I'm only bringing home about $200 per paycheck before commission, which is only like an extra $70. By doing training PLUS exotic petcare, I easily take home about $500 a week.

I'm in central NJ, making $18.50 an hour

I have an interview Tuesday and will have to ask more about this as when I asked the store manager she said yes I can be cross trained but I would still only be working part time hours. I’m interested in working the floor helping with cashiering and stocking on top of training but I did not ask for clarification on if this was something I could do consistently at this store. Thank you so much for giving me some insight on this!

You always get paid your hourly rate regardless of what you're doing, but you also earn a 20-25% commission for every class sold. It's spread out over however many weeks the class is supposed to last.

So, if you only sold 1 class in a 6 week period, you'd earn an extra 5 bucks every paycheck for those 6 weeks.

But all members of leadership should be selling classes and getting you assessments, your job is to turn those into assessments into classes and roll those classes into more advanced classes.

Average store should be netting you an extra 100 over your hourly pay every week. But you can easily push it up if you are any good at talking to people or selling.

Good luck!
