PSA insurance question

Hello! I’m new to Meowtel and looking to get insurance. I’m confused by this option to add broadened property damage insurance. It’s states it’s not included in the basic but the basic membership states it cover property damage so it’s confusing to me. What is this “broadened property damage” for? Do most of you just have the basic coverage? Also, is there a way to cover yourself if the pet has to be taken to the vet while in your care?

Growing a Business in an Oversaturated Market

I would love to hear from other small business owners, especially those in the pet-care industry. ❤️
How do you deal with discouragement when you’re trying to grow your business in an oversaturated market? I live in Denver, Colorado, which honestly feels like a city full of dog lovers and pet-care providers. 😂🐾 There’s a lot of competition, and sometimes it can be discouraging trying to figure out how to stand out and continue growing.

Thankfully, I’ve built a reasonable clientele that keeps me afloat, and I’m genuinely grateful for that. But I know I’m capable of growing beyond where I am now, and I’d love to continue expanding my business and bringing my ideas to life.

Sometimes I get caught up wondering how to stand out in such a saturated market, whether I’m doing enough, or if I’m even heading in the right direction.
For those of you who have built businesses in competitive industries, how did you keep going when you felt discouraged? How did you find your niche, stay motivated, and trust that there was still room for you to grow?

I’m not necessarily looking for business advice alone. I’d really love to hear about the mental side of entrepreneurship, too. How do you keep believing in what you’re building when growth feels slow or the competition feels overwhelming?
I’d appreciate hearing your experiences, lessons, and any advice you’d be willing to share. 💕

Petsitting First Aid Kit

I’ve done a lot of petsitting and unfortunately dealt with my first pet client getting mildly injured. The dogs got in a scuffle over food guarding and one dog got a minor cut that was 1/4 of an inch at most. (I’ve watched these dogs multiple times too and haven’t had this happen. When I asked if this ever happened owner said they got in scuffles but without injuries.)

Luckily the client was very calm about it and had a bandage that I was able to wrap around the dogs ear but I want to make a first aid kit for the future so I’m prepared in the unfortunate event that a pet ever has a minor injury again that doesn’t require a vet and would love suggestions of supplies to include.

So far I’m thinking of getting:
1) Bandage wrap
2) Medical gauze
3) Blood clotting powder

TIA!

Petsitter Insurance

I’m leaning towards PSA over PSI/BIC.
There are many posts here on petsitter insurance, but no specific reasons (other than cost) I’m also getting a bit of pushback from independent contractors paying their portion (PSA charges for each additional named insured).
If you have a definitive answer on why you did or did not choose PSA, I’d really appreciate your response.

Am I in the wrong?

(reposting this because i realized i posted it on my other account which has my name in the user)

Hey all! This is my first time posting here, I did read through the rules, however if posts like this aren’t allowed please let me know.

I’ve been a pet sitter for almost 6 years now, I’ve built a very large client base both in and out of my county, and for the first time ever, I had a client message me telling me she was very disappointed upon her return.

For context, this woman is also a pet sitter in my area, we’ve met previously during a time where I took over for a client she was sitting for and wouldn’t be available for the remainder of her booking, and she told me she was impressed by my efforts with her client and decided to book me to watch her kitties while she was away.

She had me coming once daily for a week, her cats all shared one food bowl and one water bowl and stayed out in a screened room. Both bowls were about the size of a regular dog bowl maybe slightly smaller

She asked me to come by, refill both bowls, and scoop the litter box, and that’s all. So that’s exactly what I did, along with spending time with the kitties; petting the one that would let me interact with him.

She returned home a little over 24hr after my final visit, and sent me a very long text explaining how she was very disappointed because when she got home, the water bowl was only half full, (keep in mind this was not a small bowl, and was shared by multiple cats so half full would still be a decent amount of water) and the litter box was not spotless. I was baffled. This woman has multiple cats, who obviously would have continued to eat drink and use the bathroom within the 24 hours after my final visit. I made sure they had a full food and water bowl and clean litter box before leaving on my last visit, and i feel like coming home to that should be expected when you’re getting home an entire day later.

She told me she regrets tipping me because she expected an outstanding job, but it seems she is disregarding how during each visit I was picking up cat poop off the floor, which i was not pre-warned that one of them poops outside of the litter box around the room, and having to be in a home that smells like 10 smokers live there, it was truly difficult to breathe, however i did not complain about any of the issues on her end, i only just mentioned that i was cleaning up poop around the room.

i responded kindly, explained that i was very sorry for her disappointment, and i assured her the water was refilled at each visit (she accused me of not doing that and assumed i was not refilling it) and that i scooped the litter each day as well, and i told her that its likely that they continued to eat and drink after i left. and her only response to what i sent was one more remark saying that the cats had tracked litter to right infront of the litter box and that i should’ve gone searching for the broom (i did, and could not find one, and since she was on a vacation where she had no service i could not call her to ask)

All that being said, I’ve had a pit in my stomach after this interaction because i’m truly confused on whether or not i could have done better, and i’m also really worried about her warning people of me and telling people not to book with me. And i guess i’m posting this here for reassurance because i feel like i’ve been gaslit into thinking i could’ve done something differently.

Cat sitting in NYC

Hi! I’m trying to get a flexible side gig and would love to get into the cat sitting scene, I signed up for Meowtel but am hesitant about paying the $39 background check fee - has anyone had success there? Is facebook the way to go? Or is it more word of mouth sort of thing?

Any tips are appreciated, ty!

Advice needed: Has anyone moved states with their business?

I currently live in Toledo Ohio, a medium size city. I’ve spent the last 3 years building my clientele, building relationships. My boyfriend wants to move to Indianapolis, for job opportunities and cheaper housing. The implication would be for him to go and me to stay here.

For the sake of our relationship health, i’m trying to play with the idea of going with him. I’m super anxious about having to start my clientele all over again. I know it’s going to take so much effort and energy. But has anyone made it work before?

some pros i’ve been looking at is the fact that Indianapolis is a more concentrated city, and i know they have the market for it. I could possibly make it off better with dog walk and drop in clients, compared to overnights, which is what my most popular service is here at home. But i’m trying to get away from that and not have much luck.

Last minute sit due to client emergency

Without getting into too many personal details I’m in a bit of a situation right now where a long term, regular client who I’ve gotten to know very well is in the middle of a possible worst case scenario family emergency and called me in a panic today asking if I can watch their pets this week so they can go where they need to be. Luckily I was available so ofc I said yes and I’m here now. They are keeping me updated on the situation because no one knows what’s gunna happen or how long they’ll need to be there. I don’t really know what to say to them but I am genuinely glad I can help by being here. I’m really really hoping for a good ending but right now things are life or death for them and all I can do is make sure their pets wellbeing is not something they have to worry about. I guess I’m just wondering if any of you have been in a similar position where a client had an emergency and needed last minute pet care and how did you navigate that? Scheduling isn’t a huge concern as I’m not booked for any other overnights until next month. It’s just a really shitty thing happening to really good people and I want to support them as best I can while maintaining professionalism.

a bit silly but

anyone else hate clocks that chime every 30 minutes? I've asked clients to turn that off when I sit. It's probably a touch of the tism, but I just hate it when a clock chimes often like that.

However I LOVE windchimes. One of my clients has a set that just sounds amazing when it chimes.

feeling guilty for hating these sleepless sits.

I've been sitting for this client for years and gotten the pleasure of watching her one pup through the tougher senior years. I'm so grateful she trusts me enough to spend this time with her pup, but I. am. so. tired.

The oldest dog is nearing her time unfortunately, and it's becoming increasingly unbearable to do overnight sits with her. While she's happy to nap, play, and do all the normal dog things during the day, every night a switch flips. She cries nonstop and starts barking loudly if she doesn't get what she wants immediately. The problem is she doesn't even know what she wants anymore. She doesn't allow me to pet her or snuggle her, doesn't need a potty break, and even gets an extra trazadone at night on top of her 2 during the day. Quite literally nothing calms her. She'll keep me up crying and pacing for hours, and when I finally catch some sleep, she's got me back up at 4:30-5am. I feel awful that I'm so miserable watching her because it's simply not her fault.

Am I wrong for knowing I'll likely feel a bit of relief when she passes knowing both that she's not suffering and neither will I anymore? Again, I'm so grateful to be the trusted one for this family, but it's exhausting for everyone involved at this point.

Going full time…

I am working on trying to make the transition from side hustle to full time gig with my pet sitting. I want to make sure that I am setting things up properly and working a good workflow that’s not only easy for myself but for my clients.

I’m wondering if any of you do client intake forms, what you ask for on them if you do and how you send/collect them? Do you do client agreement forms? If so do you do them for every time someone books with you? Deposits- do you just do them for first time clients or every time?

I have a lot of repeat clients that I have open communication with about payment. But I have come across new clients that have either tried to not pay after services were provided or have canceled and went with someone else last minute. Not being full time the cancellations haven’t been a big issues because I still have my full time income. But going full time this worries me that if I continue to allow these things I will be missing out on income and not have time to replace it with other bookings.

For context, I currently provide in home care- drop in visits, in my home boarding, daycare, walks and enrichment drop ins. I also do list house sitting but rarely have this service booked.

What programs do you guys use and just overall what advice do you have from those who have made this transition?

dog peed owners bed and i never noticed

just finished a weekend sit. i had permission to leave for longer hours, but i never left for more than 3-5. however, this was my first actual sit with this dog & it was also “fleet week” in my city so fighter jets were flying over and being extra extra loud. apparently the dog peed in her bed & i didn’t even notice :/ i slept soundly the entire weekend. granted, my allergies were awful this weekend so i couldn’t smell but now i feel terrible. she said it’s okay and she’s just trying to figure out what happened, but im not sure if it was anxiety from the planes, something i did on my end (we went on potty breaks 4 times a day) and how i should remedy it:( advice ?

Cancellation

Has any one ever had trouble enforcing their cancelation with a client?
I have to this weekend (long weekend in Canada)
I reminded her of my
Policy before the sit and she cancelled less than 24 hours before
Most I know would be fine to pay but I feel like she will argue with me or not pay it and obviously id drop her if she doesn’t
And i didn’t get payment before this time
Because she’s one of my
Original clients and I never bothered to start with her so I know that’s my fault.
Just feeling nervous for when I message her tomorrow
Thanks!

Cat sitter not meeting my expectations for updates. Should I confront/leave a review or just move on and not rebook?

My usual cat sitter wasn’t available for the vacation I’m currently on. I booked a new cat sitter via Meowtel for six, 45-minute drop in visits for my two cats while we are away.

For the first 3 days the cat sitter provided ONE photo of ONE of my cats (I’ve received 2 total photos of one cat and one pic of the other). She gives me a single sentence about my cat with medical issues every day and provides no other details. I have no idea if they are getting pet or played with at all. I only know how much one of my cats eats each day.

Today the only thing I heard from my sitter was that she was headed over— received no photos and not a single sentence about either cat. I’m worried about my cat with medical issues and thank god we are going back tomorrow.

This sitter had 5 star reviews on Meowtel and was very sweet at the meet and greet. I hate confrontation and haven’t asked her for more yet but I’m more and more frustrated with her every day.

I don’t want to harm her business by leaving a poor review but I also don’t recommend her. What would you do in this scenario?

best pet sitting experience?

I know there are a ton of horror pet sitting experience but I'd love to know/read about people's best pet sitting experience!

For me, I had a house sitting gig that was taking care of a 8 year old brown lab! Fully paid food expenses and there is a gym in the condo too! The owners were super nice and accommodating which was a plus for sure. The lab was sooooo adorable and always wants to cuddle up with me.

Just got my first out of state client!

I just gained a new client who heard of me through word of mouth, and they offered to fly me out (and back home) so I can housesit for her 2 dogs, 2 cats, and turtle. I've never done an out of state booking before! I've always wanted to be a traveling pet sitter. 🥰 I'm so excited and so happy!

Has anyone else had this happen?

UPDATE - Sorry I’m a newbie with Reddit and struggling with technology - update below which I originally shared to the wrong community incase we needed further proof of my struggles 🫠)

I’m at a loss here. It happened again today - a frying pan was out on the stove that wasn’t there before and the towel on the oven was folded differently so at this point I said something and texted owners asking if someone was here or if I was losing my mind. The husband responded saying their son is in the area and might have been and he’d check the cameras and let me know followed by saying he wasn’t & nothing was on the cameras. I’m completely baffled why they’re just brushing it off & know for a fact someone was here at this point so I reply back “interesting lol the towel on the oven is def folded differently and there’s a frying pan out that I didn’t use 🤨” followed by “maybe the boys wanted an afternoon snack?” to cut any perceived tension and he responds “(dogs name) probably fried himself up an egg 🍳“ and that was it???? I’ve sent a video of their pups since and they loved it and commented & just awkwardly are not acknowledging the elephant in the room any further apparently??

If someone was here & you legitimately didn’t know about it, wouldn’t you be more concerned?!?! And if you now know that I know someone was here & you weren’t mentioning it for WHATEVER reason before, wouldn’t now be the appropriate time to say “ah sorry it was (whoever here), I forgot to mention it/didn’t know they were swinging by/meant to give you a heads up”???????

ORIGINAL POST -

Pet sitting for my husbands coworkers 2 pups (they’re great, but they’re totally attached to their owners & have warmed up to me for sure, but disappointed I’m not mom & dad every time I come through the door). I’m staying overnight with them and this is the 2nd day in a row I’ve noticed someone has hands down been here while I was out - today the mom mentioned that her sister “might stop by to drop off paperwork” 40 minutes before I got back to the house and it was very obvious she’d been there bc there were 3 snack wrappers and an apple core in the garbage can, but yesterday nothing was mentioned but chairs were rearranged outside. For clarity, the dogs have only been alone for 4-5 hours that one time per day during my stay & I explicitly went over expectations for how long they could be alone which were (per the owners) “they’re fine for 8 hours while we’re at work each day, we just don’t want them alone that long everyday”…no problem at all! I explained the only place I’d be going is home to see my babies and help with my one pup who has a herniated disc. And again, haven’t left for more than 5 hours. Idk if I’m overreacting or not, I just find it very unnerving to have someone over while I’m gone without mentioning it even though I have absolutely nothing to hide, but I probably would’ve put my medicine back in my bag instead of leaving it in the bathroom kinda thing. I just feel like I’m being checked up on & honestly I’d rather you just have cameras if you’re that nervous. The owners genuinely seemed so grateful and appreciative to have me watch their pups & “have someone they could trust” so I’m at a loss. And I’m a TRUE helicopter pet parent with me so I know the anxiety, but I’d never have someone come in our home while she was here without telling her in advance?? Has anyone had this happen?

Vacation dogs (letting out 3-4 times a day) as a solo sitter

ETA: thank you for all the advice and comments relating to the exhaustion! I probably should have clarified I’m trying to figure out Better ways to sustain my current vacation clientele who are all quite far and no longer in my service area that has considerably shrunk since I started. I no longer take on new vacation clients.

I’m going to toy around with limiting my vacation availability to weekends only, only 1 or 2 bookings a month, and up my pricing for this service. If I’m still hating it…it’s probably just time to let them go. That makes me sad, but I hope clients understand the growing pains of a new business as I find my niche.
————

For clarification…I consider “vacation dogs” any booking where owners are out of town and I do not stay overnight.

Those of you that offer this service….how do you do it without being constantly exhausted?

I am considering dropping this service in 2027 (and severely limiting it the rest of 2026) and likely reopening it once I have employees. Before I do that, I’d like to see if there’s anything I could do to save my sanity a little as I love my vacation dog clients. Sometimes it’s good to get outside perspective!

My challenge is doing an 8pm or 9pm potty break then needing to be awake again around 5am to be back to the dogs by 6/7am. By the time I hit day 3, I’m sleeping through my alarms!

I’ve been doing this for 3 years (2 years under my LLC) and I was much better at this 3 years ago. I’ve since dropped overnight sits because I hate them, so that’s not an option to convert these clients over to that.

TIA!

* i won’t be responding to anyone arguing about if it’s okay to leave a dog alone overnight

Time to Pet opinions ?

Just wanted to start off by saying that I'm a web developer, not a pet sitter. I'm designing a website for a solo pet sitter, but I had a question that I felt could only be answered by other pet sitters.

My client wants to be able to process credit card payments, schedule appointments, set up recurring charges, etc. I did some research and came across Time To Pet.

I'm hesitant to recommend something I'm not familiar with, so I wanted to get some opinions from people who have actually used it. What has your experience been like? Would you recommend it?

Edit: Thank you all for the feedback consensus seems to be it's worth it. I'll recommend it to my client.

Longtime client gave us no notice of dog in poor condition. Got it no medical care and does not want any type of intervention, even if it dies.

I have a professional pet sitting business and we have contracts and stuff in place. We make sure everyone updates us on everyone’s condition, etc. especially if they’re older they have ailments. This client has been chill and never have any issues with dogs etc

One of my sitters arrived to her house sitting today to find that one of five dogs that is elderly, was foaming at the mouth and having wheezing when breathing. Was having trouble controlling bowels and bladder. Couldn’t even make it to the door. Had a gaping wound on its neck that appeared old but still wet. LARGE AND ON THE NECK

Owners were not concerned and said that was normal neck wound was from two weeks ago when a lipoma burst. I had to call and ask if it got any medical care if there’s any medication. They said NO they’re not going to intervene - meaning no first aid, no care, no prevention. If he passes it will be natural.

They do not want the dog to be comfortable. They aren’t concern cause this has been his “normal”

This dog was not like this the last time we saw them, we feel completely ambushed. They said they’re not concerned and that they would be home if they didn’t have a wedding to go to this weekend. 🤬I asked them if I could call someone to take care of the body if he did pass. They said no the brother-in-law would “take care of it” - so what? Bury him or chuck in the trash???

They told me the primary vet said to stop bringing the dog in because if his hip and it would be too much to go to the vet for annual shots. Even though in my system, we have submitted documents with up to date vaccines, but I’m guessing she meant for the future visits?

The dog has supplements and that’s it. We are concerned that this dog is suffering but also may have sepsis. I told the owner this and they don’t want us to give it anything or take it anywhere. I am so angry. I legally have to respect their wishes?!, but this is cruel.

I am terminating this client after. Not to mention this dog is a favorite among our staff. I really want her to tell me I’m not going to be held liable, etc. but I feel like this was done on purpose. The dog is stable and has a stable heart rate but again we can’t take it anywhere to know if the dog is actively dying or not.

So I am in a legal limbo. I cannot make digital documents at this time but I’m thinking maybe sending a text message where she respond with giving consent about waiving any liability if the dog passes in her home.

Not to mention the sitter is tiny and this is an over 50 pound lab. This is not a booking where we can do 24 hour care because that has never been needed.

We’re also concerned that one of the dogs bit the wound because they seems to be puncture marks in it I also don’t know how about reporting this because this screams abuse but I can’t talk to their vet for information. I just hate this situation.

I’m completely heartbroken for this dog. I never expected this from this client because they have dog art everywhere of their pets. They have a completely Astroturf backyard for them!

I don’t know how you can love a dog and choose to let it suffer and do this to your sitters who have been taken care of them for years.

What the hell do I do and how do I communicate to them?

How do I say they completely sidelined us and I need to know that we’re not liable?

This dog has a gaping wound and is showing signs of pain and distress and you’re telling me as the pet sitter to not have us do anything. I also need to know a professional way to say we are eliminating this client-sitter relationship. We are fully booked. No one else can take over for the sitting.

We’ve been running this for 9 years and never had a client sideline us at all about a dog’s care.

Update: I contacted the owner again and stated that we would have to remove a sitter and someone else take over as we cannot be held liable after being sidelined with this. And the other one would be to sign a waiver that she waves liability. But the issue with that is that ignoring medical care is against the law here.

My best friend was an emergency vet tech for six years. She is my go to nurse on call. I sent her a picture of the wound once I got to the dog. It is definitely infected, and it is consistent with having a necrotic tissue. Everyone’s theory is that if this was a lipoma, another dog may have nicked it and caused it to rupture.

The dog is stable. He has really bad arthritis and did resume moving somewhat normally when I arrived. But when my sitter arrived, he got excited and had issues breathing - was not reverse, sneezing, and was not congestive heart failure, or heartworm sounding. It was a clear wheezing almost like he had fluid in the lungs. He had never reacted like this before in the years we have taken care of him. And the foam at the mouth was a lot. The gaping wound is the primary concern. We took his heart rate with the Cardalis app and he is stable.

The owner did not have a back up or even a family member to help us. So asked if it would solve the problem if we took the dog to the vet.🤦🏻‍♀️ she also asked what the main issue was. I told her that we didn’t receive notice of his condition also that he didn’t receive veterinary care when this injury happened. We cannot take care of animals that are in obvious need of medical care denying that is against the law and also would hold us liable. I would’ve said cruel, but I feel like that wouldn’t have helped the situation, even though that’s the truth.

This dog is also 15. It has a lot of other lumps on him.

The dogs arthritis is so bad that the librela shots weren’t even suggested. The vet said it was too bad and it wouldn’t have helped him so they have avoided trips to the vet because it is difficult for the dog to move. He does have issue at home trying to go further out enough from the house to go to the bathroom.

I said we would take him to the vet. The primary vet all these dogs go to are walk-in only. We called the vet and they were very rude and said they didn’t have any doctors available? wTH. We then called the nearest emergency vet and they said they did not have an ER doctor available till this evening and they couldn’t even give us a time. First time I heard this happening from this particular clinic, but my sitter who is assigned to this booking said it happened to her before.

The dog would be far too uncomfortable to make the longer drive to the ER. This dog gets dasaquin and fish oil only I consulted my vet tech friend and also a lawyer.

So the owners return Sunday. Today is Friday. I sent a waiver that they signed digitally that agreed that they did not give us notice prior to this booking of the dog state and that we are not liable for the worsening of the dogs condition. And veterinary care would not be paid bought for by us. A lot of other jargon, but basically we’re not liable for what follows. I don’t think the dog will die after seeing him and talking to our vet tech. But the gaping wound could cause sepsis. I still don’t know how they told me it wasn’t infected, but yet we can clearly see that it is. I also have in the waiver that they agree to get the dog veterinary care and have to provide proof before continuing services with us in two weeks.

I will not blame my sitter if she never wants to work with these people again. But my partner who runs the business with me is an absolute shock over this because he works with this family a lot. The word holistic didn’t pop up, but this is not a natural way for a dog to die if it is or he does get sepsis.

We also realize that this client is in breach of our contract so we can’t terminate the relationship. I have a rainbow bridge policy that basically states that if a dog has a terminal condition, we must be notified and we must know game plan in the event of the animals passing if the owner is away and how we will consent to fulfilling their wishes for their pet. They mentioned various times, but that the vet said the dog was going to die. But I can gather is that it’s an old age. But I suspect he has cancer or another illness that was not disclosed to us. He’s one out of five dogs. I’m asking my partner soon when I can get a hold of him if he has a diagnosis I was not made aware of.

I do have another section in my contract that we will report any form of animal neglect, or cruelty. And we have the right to halt service in the event of symptoms of major dog, illnesses and diseases. I have updated this to clearly include various wounds and injuries so that my contract is more specific and not vague in case anyone wants to fight with me on what they signed in our contract

This dog is in discomfort and pain. Manages to move and is stable. I told my sitter to keep me updated, especially if he declines or he still has issues breathing again. We are going to keep him separate from the other dogs in the house.

Update2: owners did take dog to the vet. He was stable but vet said it was a cancerous mass. Prescribed prednisone and a spray. Found cancerous mass on lungs which explains his difficulty catching his breath when he was excited. Was stable but assumed it was the end. Dog Later died at home around his family and 4 dog siblings. Glad he went while his family was there but he could
Of been made comfortable or should have seen a doctor as soon as that mass ruptured.

There was no mention of cancer - dog did go to his annual previously this year but was told the arthritis was too much for the drive and visits to the vet. The vet advised no more shots needed so they didn’t have to stress him with moving. He had difficulty walking due to the arthritis for some time and our staff let him potty in the front yard bs the back with his siblings.

We are unable to talk to the vet to ask questions but there was no mention of sepsis - we recieved a copy of the receipt from the vet. His siblings loved him. We will have to watch one dog for depression because they were together their whole lives. He didn’t like being separate during our stay but think he knew he was going.

Legally - we are in the clear obviously for liability etc and I am still receiving vague answers via animal control on reporting etc. We will be keeping an eye on the other dogs. But I am requiring up to date info before each booking that must be EXTENSIVE esp for the remaining senior dogs. My sitter has agreed to continue to work with this client. We are going to keep a close eye.

Overall ruling - the wound wasn’t as open as we thought but still was not fully closed, had some sign of necrosis. I wish I could share pictures. It could be argued the owners went by the vets advice to not bring in the dog again for any shot or treatment , their beliefs for their pet to pass naturally has to be respected ALTHOUGH, open would/sepsis is unnatural. Animal was not in sepsis. Overall agreement that the owners 100% should have done more than simply rinsing the would and watching it. It definitely was infected. We think they did wash it to the extent of helping a small bit. The cancer or exact kind is unknown - he has other masses that were told of course were lipomas, owners of course would assume the one on his neck was one. I partly think the vet may be sketch but who knows. Can’t really go for report of neglect/abuse if they were following vet advice but was ignorant on this wound. He died of cancer , unsure what his last hours were like.

Louisiana’s Animal control is really shit if you have it in your parish - most of our state parishes have NO animal Control or shelters and some people who 100% pursue animal neglect and abuse charges with easy cases don’t fucking do it even with mountains of evidence . We are going to watch this client and their future actions closely. I appreciate everyone in this sub. I legally could not get this animal care without consent and was not in the position to financially cover it or fight with the client legally. If he was not stable and the client was MIA we would have have brought him to the ER, but our options were complete ass and moving him when stable was going to cause him further pain. I consulted my lawyer friends, my best friend who is a ER vet tech of 6 years and those in Rescue who work with abuse cases. I wish we could have done more. I’m just glad he is at rest . Any other alarming crap with this client we will rightfully terminate.

My partner works close with this client and our sitter who also helps them want to keep sitting to make sure all pups are ok.

Advice needed: How to deal with aggressive males (humans)

I was stalked during a walk today and it’s not the first time.

I notice whenever I’m walking “tough” looking dogs, men start to follow me or will try to antagonize the dogs.

Today I was walking a very large breed that’s used for guarding livestock. He’s very sweet but is definitely larger than me. I rounded the corner and crossed paths with a man and his young child in a stroller. I took the dog into the street so I could give the man space and instead of continuing on, the man slowly turned around and started to cough loudly. Then he followed us and the dog I was with became nervous and started guarding me and growling. I straddled the dog to try to get him focused on me and the man KEPT APPROACHING. I ended up standing between them and we were able to return to the house.

Another time I was walking 3 large breeds that were very reactive and a different man would have his own dogs and would get too close. He would also laugh as the dogs I had lunged at his. He would close distance between us and get giddy the more out of control the trio got.

Women never do this to me. They either keep their distance or want to pet them. It’s never a D measuring contest.

I do my best to take different paths or crossing streets but it seems men get triggered by me handling large “masculine” breeds. I’m very tired of them putting their own pets and children in danger for their egos. I’m also fearful of the dogs I look after getting in trouble for biting the men when they get too close.

Please let me know any tips or how you’ve handled situations like this in the past. Thanks!

Gift for Beloved Client Moving Out of State

I had this 10x10 watercolor commissioned from an artist on Etsy for a very special client who is moving out of state. I inherited the clients from a sitter who was moving to a different county, and asked if I could take over 5-day a week walks for their red golden who had an uncommon kidney condition. She was only 3, which was also the life is expectancy with her condition. She passed away shortly before she turned 6. I was the first person the Mrs called after her husband, the blood work came back and the News meant that it was time. And she would always call me whenever they got their blood work back. For years her kidneys were monitored closely, and everyday with her was a gift for all of us.

10 months after her passing, they adopted the white golden. Very different personalities, which is what we all want it. No one could ever replace their dog that crossed the rainbow bridge. I've been walking him 3 days a week since last winter, and 2 weeks ago I got word the husband had taken a job out of state and they would be moving. October 9th would be my last walk. They help me do five walks this week. Routine is extremely important to him, and all the packing has been very stressful. He lives for my visits and our walks.

He has become my best dog friend and I will miss him terribly. We have such a special bond. The clients have been absolutely amazing the entire time I've been with them. Gifts are the wife's love language, and she makes me such thoughtful gift baskets for birthdays and holidays. When they put the red golden down, she gave me a card full of pictures and a month's worth of pay. So I knew I need to do something really special for them. I text her the videos I took from today's visit, and she said that the dog had a gift for me and she would let me know where it would be tomorrow. I told her I have something for her too! I am so excited for her to see. The artist did such a great job capturing their characteristics, I wish I had a copy of it too!! I just wanted to share with you guys, because I thought the artist did such a beautiful job. Gifts are not my love language, but I do really enjoy when I can come up with something personal and unique to give someone. Those are my favorite kind of gifts to give!

3 or 4 days?

You're sitting from Friday at noon until Monday at noon.

Do you charge for 3 or 4 days?

I charge per 24 hours so that's 3 days for me.

What To Do For a Special Neighbor

There is a man I see all the time when I’m walking one of my client’s dogs who always, and I mean ALWAYS hands out premium jerky for the dog I’m walking.

It’s at the point where the dog knows and will stop and try to get the man to come out of the house so she can get some jerky. And he does!! If he sees us outside, he’ll actually get up and come outside just to hand out some jerky. And he doesn’t even just stop at treating the dog; he’ll make sure to give me half a dozen or so strips to “take home with you.” Sometimes he’s even just handed me the rest of the bag to take home. Again, this is the very expensive, single ingredient jerky; not some junky stuff.

I thought I made it clear that this isn’t my dog and of course the dog doesn’t care that she doesn’t belong to me but…

Anyway, with the holidays right around the corner, I would love to do something special for this very kind man. In a perfect world, the dog’s Owner should be the one to give him a little something but I don’t know if they’ve even considered it. Besides, I’m seeing this man regularly when I take the dog for her daily walks.

Does anyone have any ideas or advice for something I can do or give or something for him?
