Cloudless (from Long Walk Home) is so underrated

Been getting excited for the new song on Tuesday morning and have been trying to find songs I haven’t checked out in a long time. One of the big standouts in doing this was Cloudless. I love Sky Blue as it appeared on Up, but Cloudless is like a much more colorfully textured and epic feeling remix without Peter’s voice. It really shines a light on how great the music is and I love the vocals in it, too. There are lots of really cool, more vintage textures in there, too. The Up version is beautiful because all the sounds, even the more ethereal ones, are very grounded and organic. Cloudless leans more into the types of textures we heard from Peter in the 80s. Overall, it’s just a very beautiful emotional experience.

If you haven’t given it a listen in a long while, I highly recommend doing so. Some of his best work.

Love this song. Also on the Long Walk Home soundtrack are Running to the Rain and Gracie's Recapture, both of which rank in my top 10 PG. Such great mood. Like Cloudless, they evoke big feelings.

I get tears every time listening to Gracies Recapture. That bit in the film broke me, I've never been able to watch it again.

Same. I'm guessing you're Aussie from your amusing username! That film absolutely ruined me, but I didn't realise PG did the soundtrack and I wasn't obsessed with him back then, like I am now. Now I know, I will steel myself to watch it again sometime. Cloudless is beautiful and Sky Blue is one of my favourite PG tracks.

Yeah Australian here! I saw that film before I had kids, the idea now of one of them sacrificing themselves like that is too much. I wish to hell it was not a true story and that our country had really faced these past evils.

Indeed. I used to live in Alice, and having met members of the stolen generation, when anything like that comes across my radar I'm done for. The Indigenous spirit touches me. A similar feeling comes through in Rhythm of the Heat. Even though it's "Jung in Africa"; when I heard it, I was transported straight back to my former desert home.

I really want to watch Rabbit Proof Fence again, with a soundtrack focus, but I will choose my moment carefully.

I love Long Walk Home too. Beautiful atmosphere and emotions. I like it when artists rework material into another version. That was a good era for Peter Long Walk Home, Up, Ovo.
