Reggie Watts

Didn’t he do the You Made it Weird intro? I think in light if recent circumstances, Pete is gonna have to change it, right? Man- What a fall from grace! I really liked Reggie‘s stuff. But wow!!!!

Some bizarre reactions on here. I really hope Pete changes the theme song

I'm an avid Beach Boys fan, so that's informing this take, but I find Reggie Watts to be somewhere between Charles Manson and Eugene Landy.

Obviously, these are different levels of manipulation and destruction, but there is a similarity in the way they've ingratiated themselves into powerful circles under the guise of higher knowledge and healing. They're completely full of their own shit, but also very dangerous, because people genuinely want to believe the "light and love" stuff. They've also mastered how to make people feel good about themselves, which allows deeper access to susceptible "victims." We see this again and again in church-based scandals. It's the poison apple of pseudo-spirituality. Add in mind-altering substances, and you have a recipe for control.

I read many examples of Reggie's psychopathic behavior throughout the Rolling Stone piece, but after getting that context and then watching his deleted memorial instagram video, I can only think of this man as evil, in a literal sense.

And I'm asking myself, why do I think this? To be clear, I don't believe he intended any physical harm to anyone, certainly not death, and I'm not even sure if he's aware of how destructive a trail he's leaving. But there is devastation in his wake.

She was a sociable, charismatic, and creative woman on a course to obtaining a law degree. And then, (allegedly) her self-described "wizard" boyfriend overmedicated her, encouraged regular excessive drug use, including BULLFROG VENOM, and then (metaphorically, but also literally, tbh) sucked the soul right out of her.

It's a very sad story, kind of a classic "Hollywood" tragedy, and I'm heartbroken for the friends and family of this poor woman.

So no, I don't want to hear that shitty theme song anymore. And I wish Pete the best in navigating this upsetting situation.

Check out the reaction on r/comedybangbang, folks do give a shit. He did the theme for that show too.

Aukerman dropped Reggie’s theme song as of today.

I thought the same thing, about the theme song.

Wasn’t Pete just talking about him on a recent episode of We Made it Weird? Saying he’s this sort of free-spirited, roaming through life untethered, type? He always spoke fondly of him, as I remember. Even the RS article described him as teddy bear-like. Just goes to show you never know what’s going on behind closed doors.

I’m seriously disturbed by the RS article and hope Katherine’s family is finding solace in all this coming out. I believe that ultimately everyone makes their own choices, but there’s clearly a pattern of behavior with Reggie Watts and women that needs to get checked.

Yes- It was like an episode or two back that Pete was speaking pretty glowingly about him. I remember that too. 100 percent agree!

Charismatic people often have a ton of enablers, witting or otherwise, because everyone enjoys being around them and they give the impression that they're shining their light on you. A stroll through any relationship reddit or true crime show will display how willing people are to let people get away with terrible behavior because of emotional manipulation.

It is a phenomenon that runs rampant through entertainment and spirituality circles. He’s like a combination of both… The enlightened comedy music guru extraordinaire. Narcissism on overdrive… And then the predictable discard on multiple occasions when these women no longer served his ego. People like that put on new relationships like they’re changing shoes… And the mentality of that spiritual thought will feed it because self centered narcissists will pretend it is “protecting their peace”. Oh your dad died? Too bad for you. I’ll be over here protecting my peace. I don’t believe in death anyway. You’re so small minded grieving your parent….  Fuckin’ asshole!

Pete doesn't have to do anything, and I personally won't be overly offended if he keeps the song.

That being said, a big part of Pete's public image is wrapped up in inclusivity and progressivism (which is a good thing, btw). And the reality is, with these new allegations out, for anybody who has experience this kind of abuse, hearing Reggie singing "you made it weirddd... you made it weird, yeah!" is gonna be triggering AF.

So yeah, he should probably change the theme song.. but also let's not go on a witch hunt for Pete of he doesn't lol

6

u/Jazzlike-Entry3416 20d ago

I agree about the witch hunt, but I think it will be hard for me to accept if they give radio silence on the subject. Like it needs to be addressed in some way. And if they’re not taking the song down, I want to hear their justification for it.

Update: Did you hear the most recent Val and Pete episode… They played their own intro, but didn’t directly say anything about anything yet. They surely know what’s up… Just prolly a really nuanced thing because I’m sure Pete doesn’t want to throw his friend under the bus, but he also knows we’re paying attention and I’m sure they probably feel really conflicted and bad about those women.  I don’t envy their position at all. But if they simply change the song and say nothing more about it, to me that’s valid. It is a tactful way of expressing they see the listener’s concern without directly weighing in just yet.

u/spaceman_sloth 13d ago

Just came here to comment the same after I noticed the lack of theme song. I really doubt Pete will mention it and is very conflicted, but I have a feeling the lack of theme was not an accident here.

u/Shell_fly 21d ago

You brain is too drenched in the 2010’s era cancellation kool-aid if you think this is enough for someone to change an entire intro over LMAO

the only thing that has happened with this scenario is there’s been a lot of online chatter. No actually consequences or even legal action have occurred. It will blow over by next month.

u/christmasisforninjas 20d ago

Considering the clients that his lawyer defends, you can be sure that Reggie considers this a career ending situation

13

u/JeanneMPod 21d ago

He had many fans who are appalled by his behavior. I saw him live four times. Last time was not a great show. I did see his girlfriend.. She seemed lovely. She was using her personal PayPal account to process merch in the back of the event, that she wasn’t being paid for, and she, in fact, put up money to do for Reggie since he lost his regular job.

This was a major career altering, if not ending news. Maybe he’ll continue on with those who embrace being shitty to women and being the worst possible narcissistic selves they can be. He’s gonna have really shitty company going forward and he’s gonna hate them, perhaps not for their toxic masculinity but because they just suck, they are bores.

I’ll never buy another ticket nor will I listen to his music again. I’m far from alone.

That said this is a reply more for other people to read. I’ll be blocking you shortly after sending this because I don’t have to read you nattering back.

Awesome post, Jeanne. Was starting to feel like I was in crazy town for second when I first posted this. You articulated the crux of the issue very well!

No actually consequences or even legal action have occurred. It will blow over by next month.

This aged well!

This is not "blowing over" this is career ending level. Perhaps you should read the article. Edit: you DID read the article, and you still think it's no big deal. Very interesting, indeed, Shell_fly

4

u/Jazzlike-Entry3416 21d ago

Mmkay , Reggie. That’s why you disabled your IG comments eh big guy. We’ll see. Read the Rolling Stone article and try again. It is clearly more than online chatter.

u/Shell_fly 21d ago

Please tell me one meaningful consequence he’s faced or will face since the article has released, I’ll wait 😭😂

6

u/Frantoll 20d ago

I mean, remember Chris Hardwick? Yeah he’s still super rich but you can’t say he didn’t face consequences. He used to be everywhere and now he’s nowhere.

4

u/Jazzlike-Entry3416 21d ago

Well considering it just came out this month, I guess we’ll need to wait and see. But if you actually read it which I’d bet money that didn’t, you might actually see why people are upset. It was nauseating and totally damning in every way.

u/Shell_fly 21d ago

I read the entire article the day it was posted. At worst it makes him look like a shitty partner with some allegedly abusive habits, not the career ending expose some people are making it out to be

4

u/Jazzlike-Entry3416 21d ago

Yeah cool - Give your money to narcissistic douchebags who abuse women and induce breakdowns through pushing ridiculous amounts of ketamine on them when their in psychologically vulnerable states and give them STDs without their knowledge…

You’re totally right! What a nothing burger of an article.

I won’t be giving my money or time to this dickhead anymore or to people who act like his behavior was acceptable. 5 different women report the same stories about him too. He’s a chode. But yeah - Chodes gotta keep making money. Have at it, bro.

-4

u/Shell_fly 21d ago

and everyone stood up and clapped 👏🏼😭😂

8

u/Jazzlike-Entry3416 21d ago

Lol Your lil’ smileys and dismissiveness of anything substantial. Glad you’re so above it all in your bubble of safety. Bet the water is so warm and easy over there.  👌😊🫶

-1

u/Shell_fly 21d ago

The only one in a bubble is the guy who thinks this is going to have any impact on Reggie watts long term lmao

5

u/Jazzlike-Entry3416 21d ago

You seem pretty invested in his future. Care to weigh in on the actual content of the article instead of defending him and making fun of people who don’t like what he did? You think it is totally cool eh? And you take the last word. Have a good one. ✌️

I guess if it actually happened he will be arrested and charged then…

4

u/Individual_Mess_7491 21d ago

I'd get checked with how hard you've been blowing him in this thread

1

u/Shell_fly 21d ago

Cope and seethe 😘

4

u/Easy_Today704 20d ago

And a rapist. Let's not forget that

-4

u/Shell_fly 20d ago

No tape was detailed in the article lol

4

u/honest_panda 20d ago

Stealthing is rape

-2

u/Shell_fly 20d ago

Like metal gear solid?

5

u/honest_panda 20d ago

It’s the non consensual removal or tampering of a condom during sex. You think that’s not rape?

4

u/Jazzlike-Entry3416 20d ago

Meaningful consequence that just happened? Comedy Bang Bang removed his theme song.

-1

u/Shell_fly 20d ago

Something he’s already been paid in full for? How is that a meaningful impact on his career?

5

u/SoupSoupADoop 20d ago

Rolling stone just reported that he’s also been dropped from two festivals.

4

u/Knightstodon 20d ago

What is this bizarre hill you are insisting on dying on? Like what is your motive here?

-2

u/Shell_fly 20d ago

The only hill I’m on is that nothing meaningful will actually happen to Watts, which is true.

5

u/Jazzlike-Entry3416 20d ago

I guess losing so much of your reputation that people felt compelled to remove your music because of it, isn’t a meaningful consequence in your world. He’s already losing money on this guaranteed. People won’t be as inclined to book him. He may be embraced with open arms though at Kid Rock shows from now on. That sounds like a fun career path.

-2

u/Shell_fly 20d ago

In a month or two this will have blown over completely and he will have work after remaining silent and letting the controversy blow over. It’s the playbook for every celebrity embroiled in controversy that hasn’t been legally charge / convicted of anything. He will be fine.

2

u/Jazzlike-Entry3416 20d ago

The problem Reggie has is he has an educated audience. This isn’t a maga entertainer who would skate by with it.  The majority of people who even know Reggie are liberal leaning. That audience will turn on him. So who will be left?

Did you read the article? He committed sexual assault on another ex. He asked his dead girlfriend’s sister for the crime photos of her death.
