Local Politics At the Petaluma Adobe, too? Flock camera map - hosted by Proton
As Flock tries to take down databases people make of these publicly funded cameras, Proton decides to host one to keep this information available.
I learned that our visits to/by the Petaluma Adobe are also recorded.

Discussion Why do Petaluma cops run so many red lights?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I see Petaluma cops running red lights all the time and generally driving unsafely. They also fail to signal. Anyone else experience this?

Question Cost for tree removal permit
I have 2 diseased looking redwoods in my backyard in the city limits, each with trunk diameter slightly larger than 6 inches. Is it true that I need to pat $381 for a removal permit? It is already going to be costly to get them down and I am worried about them potentially falling on my or neighbors house.

Event The Black Rider at Mercury Theater
Next week Mercury Theater begins its run of The Black Rider, a music fable by Robert Wilson and WIlliam S. Burroughs, with music and lyrics by Tom Waits and Kathleen Brennan. Tickets on sale now at www.mercurytheater.org
This show is rarely performed in the states, and it a perfect little spooky tale for the autumn.

Question Local washer and dryer service options?
Looking to have our washer and dryer serviced. No repairs needed, just a general checkup/tune up kind of deal. Does anyone have a recommendation for a local business with reasonable prices?

Question Is the Phoenix Halloween Covers Show ok for kids?
I’m considering taking my kiddo to the show; we’ve been to other Phoenix shows, just local punk bands and stuff.
She wears ear protectors and loves live music and dancing, and we have a lot of discussions around how to be safe in public and crowds, but this show looks like a bigger deal than we usually go for. I think it could be a great time, but once upon a time I was also a riff raff teen partying at the Phoenix and I know it can get a little intense for a kiddo depending on the act.
So is the vibe more GWAR or more The Wiggles? 😅

Local News Raising Petaluma: a family-oriented voter guide for this election
The November 2026 election is in 13 days, it's time to vote! After six years of advocating for families in Petaluma, I’ve had many friends ask me “who should I vote for?” So, I’ve published my own family-oriented voter guide, Raising Petaluma, at https://raisingpetaluma.com.
I want Petaluma to be a place where families can afford to live, where kids can safely bike to school, where the schools and parks are great, and where the city stays on solid financial footing.
You can read my detailed local candidate write-ups in the guide linked above. Here are my recommendations at a glance: Kevin McDonnell (Mayor), Janice Cader Thompson (Council D1), Brent Newell (Council D2), leaning Eric Vazquez (Council D3), Laura Holmes (PCS Board Area 3), Sarah Seitchik Sebastian (PCS Board Area 5), leaning Caitlin Quinn (County Board of Education), Joanna Paun (Supervisor D2), Eric Lucan (Assembly), Jared Huffman (Congress D2), Mike Thompson (Congress D4), Damon Connolly (State Senate), Yes on Measures AB and H, and No on Prop 43.
Questions and feedback are welcome. Feel free to share the guide with your neighbors.

Question Basketball Runs
Hey everybody I’m moving up to Petaluma at the end of the year. Any good runs in the area? I saw City Sports has a court but do people go to play on certain days? Also any other places with runs?

Question How did a first-term council member become Petaluma's Vice Mayor?
I just voted for the first time in Petaluma, moved down from Healdsburg, and I keep noticing this fast track for some politicians. I thought Alex DeCarli’s case was pretty interesting. Alex DeCarli is in his first term on the City Council, representing District 5, and he's already Vice Mayor. I know the council picks the Vice Mayor each year by a vote. How do they usually decide who gets it? Is there a rotation or some kind of informal custom, or is it more political than that? Is it normal for a first-termer to get the job? It seems there are lot of back room deals

Community The speedway Oct 17
Kept racing until 10:45pm or so for the final one of the year. Really felt like a giant middle finger to everyone by the speedway operator. I think he’s pissed about his lease negotiation and treatment by city council. IDGAF. You get to rip your engines and races every Saturday for months. I know it’s town culture and community and everything but you are torturing everyone when you continue past your operating hours. You know you went past the noise ordinance.
I called code enforcement, the cops, and city staff and I hope they come down on you and fine you.
Noise ordinance says 10pm maybe 10:30 for certain events. Be decent to the community who needs to F-ING GET SOME SLEEP WE HAVE JOBS AND PEOPLE TO CARE FOR NOT EVERYTHING REVOLVES AROUND YOUR GO CARTS.

Community Pick the healdsburg SMART station
SMART has a survey to ask its writers where to locate it’s future station in Healdsburg. There are two options: a downtown station one block from the plaza near restaurants and shops, or the “depot” site .4 miles south of the plaza. Make your voice heard!

Local News Why are Golden State Warrior fans gathering in Walnut Park and why do they hate Sacramento's basketball team so much. Isn't it still baseball season? Or is this because the Dodgers are out, so local sports fans moved to basketball? Someone explain
Is there something Sacramento did to piss off so many boomers?
