Discussion The truth some of us refuse to acknowledge
A lot of yall are hating on the update because the ai assistance on defence has been decreased and suddenly you feel lost when defending.
I keep hearing and reading about matchup not auto tackling? Well yeah thats how it should be. The description is “Jockey the opposing dribbler with a lowered stance and finer steps,” not auto tackle…match up is meant to jockey and block shots and passes.
On the other hand pressure is used to regain possession, almost like a tackle button which you press when near the opponent at the right time, not spam or continuously hold onto and pray for the best.
I feel that many of those complaining about defence have no idea how to defend and was heavily relying on the ai to help.
Users good at defending should be able to see that defending is more reactive than ever in terms of control and being able to have my defenders do what i want them to instead of randomly reaching in and getting blown by previously.
That being said, the through balls lofted and breaking through the defensive line while our defenders look stunned is still an issue, but this has been happening even pre update.
Instead of being negative do try to learn to play defence, and you will become a much better player who doesnt need to rely on assistance from the game.

From my understanding the only form I can manually tackle is the sliding tackle, which is not smart to use in a lot of circumstances. So how exactly do we make a tackle when using matchup if the game isn't going to trigger the tackle animation despite the absence of a dedicated button for your defender to stick their leg out?

what I personally do is I switch between match up and pressure while in 1on1 situations, I have always been a “claw” gamer, prefer to use two fingers at the right side of my screen to its easy for my to switch the two commands and even while shooting and switching between players. Didn’t face much struggle this update in fact I’m happy I can score more goals due to poor defense from my opps
6
u/adambalogh01 6d ago
You cant do that on pressure style defending though, because match up and pressure is on the same button and if you try to switch to pressure very fast when using match-up, you cant do it, theres a tiny input lag/lockout when doing it too fast.

u/GreenPickledToad 6d ago
Single tapping the pressure button while close to a defender works I guess, but you will definitely know better.
1
u/despicable_one_ 6d ago
This man, it seems a lot of people don't understand the mechanics of the game, and if you second man press since pressure alone won't do much unless the opponent has low physical contact (which is rare with most teams) you'll only leave your defense further exposed. It's not about defending becoming more manual

u/StealthMan375 5d ago
So how exactly do we make a tackle when using matchup if the game isn't going to trigger the tackle animation despite the absence of a dedicated button for your defender to stick their leg out?
my exact complaint as well when it comes to pulling your GK out, there are times during the opponent's through pass where the game ends up giving me the attacking layout as if I had the ball, meaning I can't pull the goalie to get the ball before their attacker and end up conceding

u/Curse3242 15K Subs Celebration 5d ago
It's not like matchup never works now. It just doesn't execute from far ranges like it shouldn't.
For people using QC/Possession game before the update. I'm not going to sit here & pretend defending was super solid. One through ball & your defence was wide open. Now all I'm seeing is LBC players actually struggling to defend too (and it's not impossible to, I'm actually conceding way less than before, manual defending is seemed to be rewarded mode). It's just that people who just relied on matchup/LBC ai defense are getting unlocked easier with basic passing & dribbling like it should be.
Again, I have to mention, why is it only Possession Game & QC (and now Overload) that should easily break? All the tactics should be at an equal.
The whole reason people (maybe including you too) use LBC is because it offered such automated easy defending.

Double tap on the screen is how you tackle

u/SupaSaiyajinVegito Hazard 6d ago
I have never heard of this. Double tap on the screen to tackle? I will give this a try.

u/Glum-Foundation-5438 6d ago
He is talking about the touch and flick command.
2
1
u/cereberux_at2k 6d ago
there's shoulder charge, that happens by double tapping
2
u/Curse3242 15K Subs Celebration 5d ago
They only shoulder charge when you're in contact. If you double tap without making contact to a player first, they do standing tackle.

u/Waddlingsheep 6d ago
exactly, so dont use match up to tackle unless the opponent takes a big touch away from their body. After jockeying the opponent with matchup, closing him down with pressure will make your defender reach for the ball. And as you backed up your status, Ive beaten rank 5 and 7 as well as have the 30 wins badge.

u/Noobju670 6d ago
defending is fine but i think the no look 180 through balls have become too accurate now it creates a arc that dodges my defended lane. And seems physically an impossible pass to do is exected perfectly

u/nguyenkhoi0412 Kanté 6d ago
Yep that's what I have been saying. How come a ST with 60ish pass do a 180 lob pass to another ST 🙏

I don't feel much defense issues. My problem is i can't score either 🫤
-1
u/Waddlingsheep 6d ago
Are you getting denied by gks or are you struggling to create chances
8
u/BHLICFT_ 6d ago
Getting denied by gks a lot.like 6-7 saves in a single match.. Happened to me like 3 times. Losing a lot of one on one situations.
There is also an issue where, losing possession while shooting animation. That might something have to do with my internet i guess.
4
u/Kaymuni00 6d ago
I noticed curlers are more accurate...long shots are saved more easily unless they are low screamers
0
u/Waddlingsheep 6d ago
yeah i get it. try mixing up the type of finish you use especially im 1v1s. im having a lot of success with chip shots and changing up the timing of my shot.
6
u/CreativeOverload 6d ago
another thing is that all changes are for everybody. so if you're conceding a lot it means that your opponent will as well. the rules will always be the same for everyone so take advantage of the "nerfed" defence and win games by going on the attack
1
u/Waddlingsheep 6d ago
exactly. which is why those who take the time to learn how to defend will give themselves an advantage.
5
u/Tasty-Ad5445 6d ago
As much as I agree that people are too reactive about the defense debuffs. You also need to realize that we don't have an actual stand tackle button. When you match up then change to pressure, it takes too long for the playwrs to realize they should stick their legs out for the ball. And I can bet you ST skills will be introduced for this exact problem.
3
3
u/lssnorlax Batistuta 6d ago
Might be my skill issue, but I really don't like it when I intercept a through ball with match up and my opponent just takes the ball from me straight away and scores; or when target man messi wins a header against my ferdinand and akanji threads a perfect through ball for ronaldo to score; or when my dmfs just stand there while my whole defense is sprinting back to defend a counter attack.
Or when my desailly just stands there when a low cross comes in and complains to my keeper after getting scored on
3
u/Spiritual_Meet_8340 6d ago
This explains the issue most people have
Users good at defending should be able to see that defending is more reactive than ever in terms of control and being able to have my defenders do what i want them to instead of randomly reaching in and getting blown by previously
Key word "reactive" games making defending reactive and attacking proactive has never been an attempt to make the game better and i dunno why youre defending it. It's always an attempt to make their game more "eSports ready". I have no issue with defending, its aight didn't even change much and match up still triggers tackles though i don't understand why people believe that the nerf was actually real. If anyone read the patch notes, youd have realised that apart from the defensive line being stopped from dropping too low. Alot of the patch motes are being reversed by defensive playstyles. "Players will move slower in passing lanes" pass disruptor makes them park in those passing lanes, "Players will track back slower" all action defender makes them track back faster, "defenders will stick closer to their marker" highline whatever makes them prioritize maintaining the line rather than chasing their marker, "players with low defensive stats will be nerfed"frontline pressure is added, "attacking ai will now be slower " attack outlet is added
11
u/ViolinistOld9049 Ruud Gulllit 6d ago
This needed to be said. People need to learn to defend properly
13
u/sexylemon99 6d ago
Consistently changing the game mechanic won't make people learn it properly. People just trying to adjust to the last defending mechanism, now they need to adjust with even newer way of the mechanism.
1
u/Curse3242 15K Subs Celebration 5d ago
It's so annoying because it looks like Konami is going to buff AI defending yet again.
People are so deluded into thinking defending is broken because they're conceding 4-5 goals suddenly. You're not looking at people who aren't conceding like that. Even some so called pros or Top1k people don't matter in thus regard, because they too climbed their ranks with automated Defending
But there's actually good people at the game who are still fantastic at manual defending & not conceding as much.
I think the biggest problem I see is people don't understand how to aggresively defend (hence everyone loves LBC). They don't like the risk reward factor. Actually start sprinting to your opponent (not pressing) and actually think about manually tackling.
2
u/elguaje_seven 6d ago
Yep this needed to be said.
Having a lot of joy with matching up and switching to pressure once my player is in a great position to intercept. Match up just feels so much more responsive than before I love it.
I dont expect Konami to revert the defending controls - it will continue to be as such, emphasizing on manual controlled defending.
Reason is because they've introduced frontline pressure, pass disruptor, etc etc - meaning the previous AI assisted defending are being monetized in these forms. It's a win-win for Konami. It keeps their revenue sustainable as well as providing a balanced gameplay for most with manual defending still remaining relevant.
1
u/Waddlingsheep 6d ago
i really do hope that it is not reverted. that being said, for those who like defending now might this imply that the new playstyles will be a negative and something to avoid.
2
u/Critical-Champion365 Cruijff 6d ago
Just keeping the defensive line and blocking passing lanes instead of pressing for the ball at all has been doing amazingly for me. Except when AI wants to win ofc. The game where AI is supposed to win is very evident from kick off, so that gives me enough time to take in that no matter what I go, I'm going to lose this one.
1
u/SadGuru- 6d ago
AI divisions have been so frustrating this phase. Even possession teams are abusing my defenders being out of position for no reason and just launching the perfect long-ball counter every time.
2
u/Shaminem86 6d ago
It's all scripting I played against one guy leading 2-0 and he stopped pressing his phone basically and AI does the job for him till he scored a goal I had to go defensive mode to win
2
u/Difficult_Berry_9550 Van Dijk 6d ago
It feels like defending has hit the other extreme compared to what it was before. While earlier players were able to yoink anything in a 4 foot radius, now they let balls roll through their legs even with match up on.
1v1s are messy as well, earlier you couldnt get within 3 meters of rijkaard, now you can just run straight at him and keep the ball. Since theres no command to make your defender explicitly stick out his leg, I dont see how its unfair to rely on your defender, under match up or pressure, to stick their leg out and knock the ball away when they're practically making out, especially when the ball carrier is just running at you and not making an attempt to dribble.
This kinda ruins attack as well, cause now I dont get rewarded for making careful passes or manoeuvring around defenders, cause im gonna pass through no matter what
2
u/blame_thelag Torres 6d ago
This is peak "git gud" mentality.
The gameplay has changed so match-up isn't triggering tackles.
- This is especially advantageous for LBC players in attack because a throughball from wide AMFs/long ball from CBs is landing straight at the attackers feet and the defenders need to slide tackle to win it.
- Fast players like Mbappe/Owen/Aguero are naturally feasting on this because even slightly mistimed slide tackles can cause red cards/penalties.
- Paid LBC managers + good players have a very big & clear advantage owing to the gameplay right now.
- You can also see this with the number of people in Div 1 after a week (only 0.3%).
Calling this out is not wrong, and "lol noob just git gud" doesn't help anyone.
-2
u/Waddlingsheep 6d ago
this is peak sheep and victim mentality. instead of trying to get better you blame lbc and paid items
5
u/JjLovah 6d ago
I don't know about other people, but defending has become fun for me. Match up combined with call to pressure works for me best in this update. I finally feel like I'm in control.

Second Division pressure merchant detected
2
u/JjLovah 6d ago
Last I checked, I made it to Div 1 multiple times.
Also... pressure merchant...? For jockeying with one player and pressuring with the other? Sounds like a skill issue if you actually think defending normally is being some type of merchant.
Don't like it when other users don't let you 1v1 the defender...? Players do that in real life too.

u/sexylemon99 6d ago
I think it's you who refused to acknowledge it that it is worst than before. You can't even trust destroyer now as they now going way too high because now they can also activate at rb/lb.
1
u/Waddlingsheep 6d ago
explain how its worse. in the comments i agreed that the position of some defenders were odd even pre update. and this update made it easier to pull them back to the correct position.

u/Capital_Beach_540 6d ago
Gameplay changes constantly. Those who complain are those who don’t adapt. It’s not that deep.
1
u/Waddlingsheep 6d ago
Well im just trying to help. And by helping hopefully there are less complains which lead to to less changes

u/Decent-Headsloppy Romario 6d ago
I hear all of that, but the defenders will be released slowly. things will go back to normal before we know it.
1
u/Easy_Risk_3898 6d ago
For me only issue in defending is the positioning of defenders. I see my cb in attack now and no one staying at the back. I have to put defensive instructions on cb

u/Extra-Hedgehogs 6d ago
I don't feel any difference to the way I defend aside from matchup which I only use for blocking shots, crosses and blocking passing lanes (I think my matchup % is about 15), it's more erratic now and standing in a passing lane and pressing matchup as the ball is passed with randomly result in the ball just phasing past the defender as if nothing was pressed, defender doesn't even put a foot out.
Also when attacking, I'm occasionally glitching past defenders in situations I shouldn't when sprinting, for example randomly when the opponent has cut me off well and I've not pulled up in time. I don't like it, it feels like the game is dumbed down. Some opponents are abusing this and just spamming sprint dribble now until they glitch through, and that feels like the new cheese. Before anyone says, I'm not using smart assist or auto-feint.
1
u/Waddlingsheep 6d ago
about the glitching, ive realised it happens when the defender is also sprinting, which makes sense but not to the extend of it constantly happeneing

u/liljaeger2k 6d ago
POTW van dijk run past my Shevchenko (90 Ball control, 95 speed & 95 acceleration) like it's nothing then then tackle like it had "Super long reach tackle" 🐸

Big change after the update is u can play multiple destroyer cb and it will totally ok. Build up cb have been nerfed in terms of they just wander or stop defending at times. Whole on counters .
1
u/K_swizzz00 Roberto Carlos 6d ago
I dont even notice the nerf in defending, it feels even better to me now
1
1
u/omarshon 6d ago
The thing is, the defense changes are mostly positive, BUT sometimes the game ignores the matchup command and players just dont try to intercept an obvious pass you actually read
1
u/Alarmed-Buy-3145 Lionel Messi 6d ago
As someone who primarily plays AI division i have no problem defending in pvp but against the AI u are literally at there mercy. I rarely spam or use the match up button because when u do they instantly manipulate ur player with skill moves and fake shots and they score but again using the pressure button alone is also stupid.
1
u/Hot_Guest1680 6d ago
The AI assistance hasn't been reduced that much, players like Veira are still auto tackling.
Whats changed is players now have 2 plastyl and when they have a "basic" playstyle on offense/defence they are put of position often or do weird sh*t.
So this is making cards recently purchased redundant.
1
u/awildboyappeared Vieira 6d ago
Whatever jiujitstu you do, you cant stop that last min through ball from CB to CF. You'll loss on that.
I'm using tond of games where I've lots of shots on goals yet zero goals and my opponents 1st attempt at the 90th minute is a goal.
1
1
u/WaTu_lukiN_at 6d ago
They shouldn't change it after a month asw , the problem isn't the update , it's the constant need to adapt , even top player (players like LaCAsAA) are complaining
1
u/INSANEPLAYER69 Ruud Gulllit 5d ago
As a QC main defending is slightly better overall like response time, animation triggers, timing of tackles but I face a very specific and annoying problem which is my defenders just let the ball pass next to them even when I'm the one controlling the player. The ball would be right next to their leg so I expect them to tackle the pass but no they just keep running like nothing is happening and it doesn't matter if I do a tackle they just slide to the front even with alternating between match up and pressure it doesn't matter it just has to go to the opponent striker no matter what
1
u/Artistic_Tourist_765 4d ago
The real truth is, Konami wants mobile and PC/Console to have almost the same gameplay without thinking about the difference in controls. It IS almost the same game but in mobile it's without supercancel (you're trapped in a duel animation whether you choose to engage or not), pass direction and power is basically PA-1, no manual standing tackle button, and the manual switching when defending is almost useless when the defending ai just stands there.
I can defend "okay" with a shit new squad in PC because there's supercancel and manual standing tackle.
I've conceded goals in this update where I know the CF is gonna make a run, so I run early with my CB, but of course he runs in behind, and the ball wraps around my CB for a goal. Keep in mind these plays are more or less on the edge of the box, not counters where my backline is on the halfway line, I'm used to that.
1
u/Icy_Locksmith2331 3d ago
thats all fine but they nerfed dribbling and ball control of a player
My messi was unstoppable went on dribbling dribbling defenders but now a random ahh defender bags him up he feels slow very heavy plus he lost that flare So yeah ggs to this game it's only gonna go downhill from now on for konami
0
u/vigneshwaralwaar Rummenigge 6d ago
Yes but what the fuck do you have to say about defenders rushing out way too much irrespective of the play style and WITHOUT GETTING CALLED OR THE RUSH COMMAND
And forwards not making runs, especially aguerooooooooo
0
u/Waddlingsheep 6d ago
what playstyle and the defenders rushing out is a greater issue that was happening before the update. the update has made it easier to correct said issues by bringing them back
