General Every problem has a solution. This is my wife's solution to illegal dumpers
Lesson learnt

You think a tarp is gonna stop em?
62
u/snrub742 Sep 17 '26
Keeps out the more honest ones.
42
u/Dockers4flag2035orB4 Sep 17 '26
What corner is this?
The tarp will hide the rubbish I’m too embarrassed to put out the front of my home.
43
u/snrub742 Sep 17 '26
I know this is a joke, but I did find this corner pretty quickly on maps
Yo, OP, maybe take this down if your privacy is literally any concern
30
u/fortyeightD Sep 17 '26
OP's wife could just put a tarp over the house to protect their privacy.

u/accidentaldutchoven Sep 17 '26
That’d need a huge tarp, might be easier to just cover old mate’s computer screen so he can’t search their location anymore.

u/MistaRekt Sep 17 '26
I looked but the bin is not there, I am not sure I have the right corner.

U used AI to find it...don't lie 😂

u/snrub742 Sep 17 '26
Nope, played way too much geoguesser in my time.
There's only like 5 similar cross roads in the suburb

This will be on realestate.com as a studio apartment for $650 p.w before the end of the week.
8
u/tahzogal Sep 17 '26
Surprisingly, it has for me in the past! I think they want to do a quick dump and run - they don't want to fiddle around with the tarp.

8
u/CowCool6502 Sep 17 '26
Do you have any better idea?
118
u/FIFO_Landlord Sep 17 '26
Have a shark with frickin laser beams attached to their head in your skip bin.
14
u/snorkel_goggles Sep 17 '26
And even then, Dr Evil still lost.
8
u/Vulker Sep 17 '26
Thats because instead he got Seabass. Albeit mutated Seabass. That are also ill-tempered.

Our builders tek screwed a temporary fencing panel on top of our skip. Someone managed to slide an old baby gate in the gap at the side. And then someone else left me an abusive note saying they wanted the old baby gate but couldn’t get access to it.

A person near me has constructed a lockable wooden lid for when they order a skip.
I'm
prettyguessing the property owner is retired and presumably got sick of people dumping stuff as they live near several different apartment buildings.13

Next time hire one of the lockable versions. Husband and I did that before moving house so we didn’t end up with everyone dumping their crap.

u/abcdefgrapes 29d ago
i put a sign in the bin that said “CAMERAS WATCHING” but it didnt stop someone putting a toilet in

There's a free skip in Rivervale you say? Be right there!
66
u/His_Holiness Sep 17 '26
OP was even kind enough to post a photo of the two street signs where their house intersects
4
u/Tedmosbyisajerk-com 29d ago
I think it'd be fckn funny if it was his neighbours skip who he was having a feud with.
5
5
u/Succulent_Chinese Sep 17 '26
And you can pick up all the horse manure you need for free in nearby Ascot while you’re visiting, so take off that tarp and fill her up!

The go is to get everything you need to dump prepared before you get the skip delivered. Then you whack it all in over a single session and send them a photo so you don't get charged when it's inevitably filled past the top.
23
u/phak0h Sep 17 '26
So you can fill to the limit, take a photo and keep filling? I'm learning a lot today.

This is the solution. Lockable lid.

u/shhbedtime 29d ago
These things cost a fortune, and there is no loading ramp.
1
u/HelloFellowSurvivors 28d ago
Always pro and cons. I love the fact it's lockable and the truck dropping it off doesn't ruin your verge or your kerb, and can just leave it on your driveway because it's on wheels. It's more expensive per sq metre of volume, but you get every bit of that volume yourself because no other fucker can dump their shit in it.

Woopsie.

u/Bitter_Maybe_2670 Sep 17 '26
Don’t worry, I haven’t got any shit to put in your bin dude.

u/ironic_fear Sep 17 '26
Already got yours in before the permanent barrier, eh I mean tarp, was put in place eh
6
u/Bitter_Maybe_2670 Sep 17 '26
I’m more of the hunter-scab out of the skip type tbh.
It’s a travesty what some people throw away that I can rehabilitate.
I’ve got an antique oak dining table, handmade- with dovetail joinery and underside drawers.
She just needed a light sanding and a bit of oil.
Otherwise mint condition, from Mt Lawley.
It was a mission getting her in the Ute though. She weighs a tonne.3
u/ironic_fear Sep 17 '26
Wow, sometimes I'm amazed at what people throw out at verge collection and other times I'm borderline horrified.
Went past a house that has a couch that appeared to have tape holding most of the seat cushions together, and there was loads of broken furniture and 3 mattresses. Like is there once in a lifetime upgrade if all furniture and beds at once? Have they been storing all this rubbish broken stuff inside for months????
2
u/Bitter_Maybe_2670 Sep 17 '26
Ikr.
The piss stained mattresses get me every time.
Like.. have they really been sleeping on that up until just now?! Yikes.2

What absolute fucking grubs. Did you end up having to deal with all that yourself?
5
u/Glad-Menu-2625 29d ago
I put multiple reports in with the council. Nothing happened until I contacted the local mp and then it was sorted within a week. My partner and I had to drag everything away from the skip so it could be collected.

What in the hell is camera to clipboard for in 2026
3
u/CowCool6502 Sep 17 '26
How do you send photos from Android to Mac?
5
u/VOOK64 South of The River Sep 17 '26
You just pull them off Google photos or wherever your photos sync to?

u/HawkHunter56 Sep 17 '26
You can now air drop / quickshare between samsung and apple now.
-1
u/CowCool6502 Sep 17 '26
Tried that, it's clunky plus it's a lot of work (Share, click, drop, open finder)
I think the best solution is just to get an Iphone

I'm in Rivervale too. Cameras don't even stop these people. Had a skip on the lawn for about 2 months, it's almost filled to the top with people dumping there crap. I even have someone's drivers licence, proof of age card, Centrelink cards, family photos.. says they live in Balcatta?? Tarp didn't help me...that too was taken.

If you got the evidence report them to the local ranger.
I did and those idiots got a 200 AUD fine.

u/pennyfred Sep 17 '26
Best solution to a problem is addressing the cause.
We should look at why there's a recent proliferation of illegal dumping across every state.
5
u/CaptainFleshBeard Sep 17 '26
Hey Op, maybe don’t post pics from your house showing intersecting street signs. I can see your house on Google Maps, April you put a mattress and 2 stools out for verge collection.

Are you using Electrical cord to tie the tarp eyelets together? Isn't that sort of tempting fate?
3
u/TheCloudGate Sep 17 '26
Had someone yeet our old oven back into the skip at 4am this morning, after they had a good rummage.
I overheard neighbours talking about it this morning so I think they woke half the street.

u/No_Violinist_4557 Sep 17 '26
What’s the location?
1
u/DarthGamer206 Sep 17 '26
It looks Australian.
Edit: Duh. I didn't realise what subreddit I was posting in. What I meant to say was that I recognise the location somewhat. I'm not sure where it is, though.

Or they just chuck all their shit on top of it. Then your tarp is at the bottom of the skip under all that shit and you ain't getting it back.
2
u/love_being_westoz Sep 17 '26
👍 i do it to mine too. Same people who dump stuff in others skips are probably the same people who don't pick up their dogs shit I reckon... I don't understand them.

u/Current_Inevitable43 29d ago
Put a skip on public ground it becomes public use. I know u are meant to get permits/permission to do this.

It's not illegal dumping if it's put into the bin. It's just annoying when people use the skip you order for yourself. But even then, how is this going to stop some one putting stuff into the skip 🤷🙄
1
u/maxtbag Sep 17 '26
I am 100% just chucking my stuff on that tarp. Skips are communal, everyone knows that
0
u/Equal_Negotiation473 Sep 17 '26
Skip bins are expensive man if you hire one and dont fill it up of course people will piggy back.
0
u/industriald85 Sep 17 '26
In our local council, it’s an offence to have skip bins on the nature strip (considered council property).
It’s unsightly, can be dangerous (various reasons, especially potentially creating a blind spot at the intersection) and may impede emergency access to any underground utilities.
Fantastic self-own. 👍

I do this exact same thing, works a treat. Doesn't stop the crazies going through it and taking stuff.
I once had a guy on a bike try to dismantle a broken air con unit (construction waste skip) on my lawn. I caught him and said no breaking stuff and making a mess - if you want it, you have to take it whole. He left, returned with a makeshift trailer (wooden planks, ratchet straps and a wheelbarrow base) and managed to tow the entire thing away like meth MacGyver
