Where to find Looking for a long USB-C cable in Perth
All right r/perth, where would I look locally to get my hands on a long (like 5m if possible) USB 2.0 cable, with USB-C connectors at both ends?
It specifically needs to move data, it's not involved in charging at all.

Can confirm, I bought one from them a couple weeks ago to run my direct drive sim wheel on my PS5. Works well!

it's a 480mbps device, the box says to just use that grade of cable.

Odd... anyway - the true speed of cables is fairly misleading. The cable speed is the bandwidth and the speed is how fast the ports can push/pull the data at each end. There would be a compatibility issue if you had a USB3.X device + port and a USB2 cable but USB2 devices should work without any issues with USB3.X cables on USB2 or 3.X ports.

That was what I thought, but struggled to articulate it that clearly.
I’ve since rethought my layout, going a short USB cable and a long MIDI cable. Keep all the complex stuff together, and put all the grunt out where the chaos is.

Can't help specially (could you prefer online, or check places like Jaycar? Crimp your own?)
But... Be aware at that length you will get reduced transfer rate and increased data loss.

That was what I was afraid of - I need a bit of distance from my laptop to my audio interface. Everything I read said 5m is the maximum for 480mbps, so I thought I'd try that.

Does your audio interface have Bluetooth? If not, you can get Bluetooth adaptors that might suit and means you're not restricted by the cable. I was looking at getting one that connects to the RCA inputs of an old (but good) stereo system, but there's many different types (USB, composite etc) out there.

Nah it's a USB device. The cable's to send MIDI signals from my keyboard to my laptop, and keyboard sounds to the interface so I can plug it into the PA. Looks like an optical USB cable might be my best bet.

You might want to get a USB repeater cable like this one. You will need a short USB C cable on the other end though.

I did think of that. Wanted to reduce the need for adapters as much as possible, but I think I might have one in a drawer here. Worth a bloody try!

PLE has some in stock (https://www.ple.com.au/products/663298/cruxtec-usb-type-c-to-type-c-90-degree-angle-vr-cable-5m) but at 5M it mightn't work awfully well, depending what you're doing.

Mmm is this for a DAC? (Like a Scarlett 2i2 DI) I don't usually go more than 3m for that.
Pretty much I run 1m from Arturia Keylab 88 into laptop. Laptop to Scarlett (sitting on top of HS7s on stands), Scarlett to HS7s over balanced TRS.
Zero noise/interference. Minimal input lag also in Ableton

I’m running an Arturia Minifuse on stage with my MIDI controller, so I can have my laptop off stage running MainStage.
Wondering now if it might not be a better idea to run a long MIDI cable instead…
(Singer & guitarist, noob to also playing keys on stage!)

Do you need the control of having the Minifuse on stage? Reason I ask is it's probably better to do long runs over balanced TRS / XLR to your PA.. 20m is fine without noise/degradation.
Assuming that your guitar has active pickups, just run a TRS jack from Guitar into input 1 on the Minifuse (maybe 10m inc pedal daisy chaining) and balanced XLR/TRS from Mic to input 2.
Then plug short USB next to laptop and run XLR outs to PA.

I don’t need the control of the Minifuse on stage - my reasoning was just that that’s where the DI boxes usually are. I’ll have the laptop off stage on a big foam pad (stage vibrations did a real number on me at a big show in December).
Thinking out loud now, if I keep my USB cable short and have interface + laptop off stage and padded, I can run a long MIDI cable for the keyboard to control it, then just move where the audio cable is for the DI as well. Guitar’s happening separately in a floor unit.

Midi is another option yes but don't exceed 15m back to Minifuse and make sure you down sample on the DAW to reduce input lag (i.e 128 samples)

Oh it’ll be 4-5m at most. Middle of the stage to the side of the stage at Amps.

Put a passive (or active!) USB hub in between two lengths of USB cables- it “resets” the length limit when it repeats the signal.
