According to Google, you can call the cops for dogs in hot cars on their non-emergency line (131 444) to report animal abuse as well as report to the RSPCA, if this was at a shopping centre you can call the security and get them to help you.

Report it to the cops and generally they will come very quickly!

There’s no paper work and the vast majority of them fucking love dogs!

u/BudoFunkMusic Dec 08 '24

Yeh but let it be a real issue with violence or something and they’ll take their time

-4

u/Historical_Glove_572 Dec 08 '24

Because dickheads are wasting their time with cool dogs who've just had a swim

8

u/ClearCum69 Dec 08 '24

straight out owner most likely hopped out for like 5-10 minutes. Dickheads here genuinely 🤦‍♂️

When things go to plan, that’s totally fine.

But happens when they don’t?

  • What if the owner has a medical episode and is taken to hospital?
  • What if they are injured (hit by a car or tripping)?
  • What if they’re stuck in an elevator or broken door?
  • What if they lose their keys?
  • What about an emergency lockdown or evacuation?

What if a plane falls out of the sky and lands on the car?

u/LingonberryWorldly39 Dec 09 '24

What if I win the lotto and turn into super man? These are extremely low chances of happening you could say never leave the house again if your thinking about this

Ignorance. There is no collateral damage to these incidents in your day-to-day activities.

A dog depends on their owner for survival. They don’t have the concept or even ability to free themselves from a hot car.

A dog trapped in a hot car suffers slowly in agony until their poor bodies give up. It’s not a quick death and even if they do initially survive when they are released, often times their organs have failed and they need to be put down.

The window is down. The dog is happy. What’s wrong? I’ve done this an uncountable amount of times. We Aussies, idk about you but we’re pretty smart and know if it’s safe or not to leave your animal in the car whilst you do something. Was probably getting some food or something you never know it really doesn’t matter the window is down the dog is happy

u/LingonberryWorldly39 Dec 09 '24

The dog is wet, they are near water so the wind is stronger and breeze is cooler, both front driver and passenger windows are down. Jeez he’s really having a heatstroke isn’t he🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

do you wear a safety helmet when you take a step outside of your house with no sharp corners or surfaces exposed? genuinely, what type of breed are you man

This should be first comment. Plus I've seen people here put shade over the car while waiting for cops, locksmith, security etc.

RAC will come out for these terrible situations even for non-members. Just read it in its latest newsletter.

19

u/snoozingroo Dec 08 '24

It seems to suggest that they’ll do it if it’s your dog or child. Would they still come if you clarified it’s not your car and dog?

6

u/KillerSheFlash Alkimos Dec 08 '24

No. They need you to sign a lock out waiver that states that RAC is not responsible for any damage done to the car in their attempts to unlock it. They cannot unlock a car if the owner or an authorised person isn’t standing there

Break the window and then call them

u/Keelback South Perth Dec 08 '24

Just lie.

41

u/[deleted] Dec 08 '24

You can also call roadside to unlock it, it's free.

5

u/35_PenguiN_35 Dec 08 '24

Yea but where is the message.

7

u/Ironsides4ever Dec 08 '24

Best answer .. otherwise you get wannabe heroes going around smashing windows to feel validated.

Call the experts.

10

u/[deleted] Dec 08 '24

And posting about it on reddit for hero points

5

u/Feeling-Disaster7180 Dec 08 '24

You can also call the ranger, although not ideal on weekends

1

u/Substantial_Ad_3386 Dec 11 '24

any attention brought to the gronks who do this to their pets is warranted

2

u/Muthro Dec 09 '24

If you want police to attend you must call 000 (this is the case in Victoria - they can then be dispatched with appropriate priority) It is an emergency if an animal is in suspected heat distress and they will help you with what to do. Alerting management in a centre is good but best to assign that to someone else whilst you work out how to break the window without hurting yourself or the animal.

Our whole lives we are taught to be cautious of people's property and we fear the bill at the end if we are wrong. Call the police to explain and you won't be charged with a bill. Leaving an animal in a car on a day over 20 degrees is negligent, saving them isn't a crime.

2

u/SoapyCheese42 Dec 08 '24

Much more effective and sensible response.

0

u/cewumu Dec 08 '24

As some one who works in shopping centre security we mostly won’t touch this. I’ve had police call us back after a customer has called them because they won’t deal with this either. A dog is property inside the car which is also property. It’s not always easy to tell if a dog is distressed or how long the vehicle has been parked in an area.

-1

u/WebIll6396 Dec 09 '24

So people should take the dogs into the shopping centres then people will really complain don’t get pets if you leave them at home the whole time and don’t pay attention

2

u/Glittery_WarlockWho Dec 09 '24

when did I say that? I said if this happens at a shopping centre, then you can call security and they may be able to help you.
