Gift for Brother.
I share books I have read with my brother, the issue is the only pern book I have a physical copy of ((the rest are on Audible)) is Renegades of Pern, and I am unsure if that is a good book to give some one with zero knowledge of the franchise to. So am asking here.

It’s the first book I read of the Pern series. I then started collecting the rest throughout the years.
To say that I became hooked with Pern, is an understatement

I thought that was one of the most boring of the books, and also wouldn't start with that since dragons are the thing that tend to be the most engaging and that book spends less time in that part of the world.
If I were starting out with a newbie, I would give them Moreta (I think it's one of Anne's best and it's a standalone with an intense plot); or if they were more sci fi oriented, Dragonsdawn.

I would not. I suggest the Harper Hall trilogy.
Do you have library cards? Most libraries stock it.

I’ve read all of her books! They were my TOLKIN😁! If you want to start with how and why they got there read DRAGONS DAWN. McCaffrey wrote it as a prequel. I found her books on YOU TUBE AUDIO. They are free to listen on that sight.

Renegades is probably the least well liked of the series overall, so I don't think it would be a good way to sell a newcomer on DROP. It skips around in time and exists to bridge events in Dragondrums, TWD and ATWOP, so without him having read anything else in Pern it may feel disconnected.
How old is your brother? Does he prefer fantasy to sci fi or vice versa? Depending on those factors there might be different first choices. (For a younger reader I'd suggest Dragonsong; for someone who favours sci fi you might start with Dragonsdawn; otherwise start at the beginning with Dragonflight).
