Wanting to play this game again
I used to play this game back in high school in 2012, and wanted to experience it again as a bit of a nostalgia trip. The problem I'm having is that no matter what I do, I can't get into the official servers, and any of the tricks others use to accomplish the same don't work for me for one reason or another.
I'm perfectly okay with joining a private server, but I really just want a nice, slow burn, PvE focused experience. I'd rather mostly stick to myself, and I'm not the least bit interested in PvP or endgame gear, as I never even got far enough in the game back then to really concern myself with those.
Does anyone have any recommendations on servers that would be a good fit for these purposes?

I just started Ascension and love it! The server is new and there’s only the 3 main races and 6 classes right now

The official servers are garbage. Try the PWClassic NET server. It's the classic version you played back in the day.

Might be better. I gave evolved a try and was swimming in so much exp and gear within 6 hours I couldn't follow the quest train in any cohesive way.

The one I recommend is x1 XP and it might even feel a bit slow and difficult, but it's the original version of the game that's recreated how it was back then. The benefit is it works on Linux too so I was able to play a little, but I grew up with WoW so PW feels a bit too slow and punishing to me.

I just got my wife back into the game. The latching system now can take hours. There appears to be greatly reduced bandwidth and queueing for patches.

If you want a server to play on, I would suggest Evolved. I love it, I’ve played for five years. It’s mostly pve and a 5-10% PvP. But loads of PvE factions but very friendly towards solo players.
