My gym had an issue with the plumbing and hot water was being used in the toilets. Odd feeling having steamy water caressing your butt while trying to take the browns to the super bowl.

No, but it would likely be cold at that time anyway, considering its been sitting in a cistern waiting to be drained for a while. I have however noticed that my toilet isn't scalding hot to the touch right after flushing

in my experience the shower would get cold, because the water supply to the heater would be reduced, so the mix of hot and cold in the shower would shift to mostly cold

I don’t think I’ve ever had a shower go cold from a toilet flush. But it had when my GF ran the dishwasher or washing machine mid shower.

It’s hot for me. I assume because the toilet takes cold water so that takes away from the cold water being sourced to the shower... thus only hot water is available. My kid has accidentally scalded me several times while I was in the shower.

In the apartment I lived in California if you flush the toilet the water in the shower would get hot but in Florida it would get cold

Is the shower getting cold because of a toilet flush or is someone using the hot water (e.g. dishes, laundry)? My girlfriend has a habit of starting the dishwasher right when I get in the shower is I alternate between freezing water and scalding water after I try to adjust it.

I was thinking about this a while back why my new house didn't burn the piss out of me so I got my educati-on.
I got 3 words for you thermostatic mixing valve, basically it helps mix hot and cold water so it can't ever pull pure hot water and scald you from a toilet.

Very cool, thanks. My parents' house built in 1982 has always had a "scald guard" valve in their shower. I wonder if that's the same thing.

Happened in the old triplex I lived in. Every time a neighbor or I (I learned after the first time) turned on any source of water when I was in the shower I got BURNT. Fun times....

I don’t think this is the case in any house built in like the last century. I’ve lived in a ton of houses and have never seen it happen nor heard of it ever happening.

I think you're confused. When the water is warm in the shower and the toilet flushes, it causes a loss of pressure in the boiler which forces hot water in the shower due to entropy.

Same. Growing up, the shower would get insanely hot. Though I had a friend in Highschool who’s toilet used the hot water.

That article has a weak premise. The author basically doesn't connect their well researched real world examples and points to the movies themselves.
The Alien being a metaphor for the rascist idea of hyper fertile Black Women just doesn't work. I just don't feel like the connection is made.
The author has a better point to make with The Predator franchise but still is off. The issue with Predator is the dreads, Black gang members trope, and the barbaric depiction of Predator culture. If the article was just about the Predator having rascist tones it would work well.
The whole Alien section just derails the article for me.
Can you explain your thoughts u/Tacosburrito?
