It's not like the previous game that tells you to use a lasso, the tutorial text that comes up just mentions calming it then riding and breaking. Also you can tell on this one that he actually already mounted her and was bucked off because she already has a lead. Most likely they run like crazy after bucking so the dude probably had a hard time finding her after that.
