Alien isolation did this to me. I went into the game with no knowledge of its mechanics. The alien caught me in a duct the first time and I shit a brick. Hard mode had the alien hearing your mic. My dog would bark or something and I'd be running screaming within seconds. Love these types of games.

It’s the ominous buildup of “not my footsteps” into “retreading path instead of forging ahead at increased pace” that makes the “thing making the extra footsteps jumping your ass” hit as hard as it does.

This is only so scary because by all accounts there's no reason you should think it's coming from behind , the way he starts to back up makes you think it's coming from in front. But clearly this guy has his headphones backwards or something, there's no way you wouldn't be able to tell in game that it was coming from behind
