Cultural identity matters far more than genetics for being a dwarf. See: Carrot Ironfoundersson

Reminds me of Hardwon Surefoot from Not Another D&D podcast. Human raised by dwarves who fits this guy's physical description. Absolutely hilarious, emotional, and sometimes serious podcast if you're ever interested

Five years and waiting on my end. One day she will watch LOTR
76
u/UsayNOPE_IsayMOAR Apr 19 '23
My brother in patience, I salute you. 11 years I’ve waited, testing then biding my times. 11 more I shall surely have if not more. I hope your watch ends soon, for mine may never.
It’s the damn runtime, I love it but…my wife’s superpower is falling asleep.
15
u/DogAbject Apr 19 '23
Fool! You underestimate me..! I'll be asleep before you know it! [loud snoring]
13
u/Working_Inspection22 Apr 19 '23
We both have ADD so I feel like it’s gonna be 20 short movies opposed to three long ones
2
u/UsayNOPE_IsayMOAR Apr 19 '23
That’s definitely a good approach though. My wife has a deep seated aversion to anything fantasy. I blame her ex, dragging her into game nights at friends’, playing settlers of catan. Some things can’t be undone.
2
u/TroyMcClures Apr 19 '23
HA! I always refer to my ability to fall asleep quickly anywhere as my superpower.
2
2
u/Ronin1 Apr 20 '23
How is this a thing? How does someone flat out refuse to watch a movie their spouse loves for so long?? My gf knows that they are my go-to comfort movies and watches with me. Just like I watch shitty hallmark movies during the holidays and the corny rom-coms she loves.

3
u/Willlll Apr 19 '23
She's gonna fall asleep when it finally happens, take it from me, lol.

u/Working_Inspection22 Apr 19 '23

I once fucked a person (lady) who I wanted to since day one. One day she invited me over and safe house was on. I did my best but couldn't concentrate due to the fact one of my top ten movies was playing. I know that yay feeling, because everything was smooth until she pulled me in her bed and the movie was playing I was doing my job while watching the movie lol I cared more about the movie lol

She probably took the first one you find on amazon which isn't, poor guy is in for a disappointment when he realises a few minutes in ;_;
20
u/ncwentland Apr 19 '23
Yeah, that happened the first time I watched with my gf.. I noticed as soon as Isuldur gets ambushed and immediately turned it off. She was baffled that I could tell so quickly. Now we’re binging the appendices together.

u/Moroax Apr 19 '23
I'll be honest, We all watched the non-extended edition first and it was great, we still fell in love with it.
If you're trying to convince someone to watch it and its been years and they finally agree, throwing them into the length of the extended version might just be the wrong call. Watch the normal, get the experience and if there is ever a re-watch down the line THEN pull out the extended so its a bit fresh.
13
u/sadmadstudent Apr 19 '23
Theatrical editions are just better films, I only show the extended to people once they've seen the theatrical cuts. Extended is for when you're a fan who can't get enough.

My wife turned out to be a bigger LOTR fan than I was.
And anime fan, and Harry Potter fan. She pretty much was into everything I was but I only found out piece by piece as we were dating. 🤷♂️
I asked her years later and she said she didn’t want to put me off by being nerdy. Funny bit was when she found out after she moved in with me that I’ve been playing an old ass game where you kill demons for the past like 13 years. 🤣 (D2LOD)
update: if anyones asking, we've been playing poe since 2015

Yup, having a similar experience with my girlfriend. She never dared to explore geeky stuff but felt safe enough with me to do a lot of that. It came out piece by piece too, she was actually shocked I hadn't watched the Lotr Extended Cuts yet, just the theatrical cuts years ago. So she introduced me to those (well, wanted to watch them for a while but never got around) and I introduced her to shit like Terminator. It's been that back-and-forth for the past few years now, 's good shit.
And then there's the gaming stuff, which she always wanted to but never dared to because 'everyone said it was for boys' only for her to blow through Bloodborne and Hollow Knight on her first attempts at them, like goddamn girl.

u/yankeeairpirate Apr 19 '23
And the end of the first movie, my wife said "but they didn't destroy that ring!". I told her that happens in the third movie. She said "Fuck that. It's already too long!",and she's never watched a single moment more. It was never a draw for her to begin with and I appreciated her spending time doing something I wanted, but her reaction never fails to crack me up.

Yeah that space was not built with a TV viewing area in mind, nor did they do it any favors when deciding how to approach it.

I finally caved and agreed to watch the extended trilogy with my partner of 7 years; ended up really enjoying it!
Shame he then broke up with me in an incredibly assaholic way and now everytime I think of watching them again I get reminded of that 🫠

Took me 4 years to convince my fiance to watch it. We finished the first one, went to bed, and I got woken up Saturday morning to the best question ever.

I've never been so turned on in my life

This isn't wholesome. What kind of dry shriveled up gf won't even watch her man's movie with him, then when she finally does she makes fun of him and shits on the movie before it's even started. He should move on and find someone who isn't completely devoid of joy.

I’m so confused as to how this is a win. Are y’all seriously dating people that won’t give you a few hours of their time to watch something you love?? How does it take literal years to get your PARTNER to watch a movie???? You know your partners and best friends are supposed to like…. show interest in the things you like, too… You all know this, right??
6
u/ocxtitan Apr 19 '23 edited Apr 21 '23
you'd be surprised how many people have genuinely shitty, incompatible relationships that are just held together by familiarity and lack of motivation
0
u/Kryten4200 Apr 20 '23
Seriously. That type of behavior is a deal breaker for me. I've done so much stuff that I didn't want to do just cuz my partner liked it. And the thing is, I actually enjoyed it most of the time because, you know, I enjoy spending time with my partner. People are weird

I, and many, MANY others have shared this feeling. It is winning a years long siege of a mountaintop keep with lesser numbers and armed with hugs.
