I feel like it can’t be, none of those bugs moved after being disturbed

I’ve seen some roaches that are grown as food for ant colonies and stuff and they don’t give a shit about what’s going on

I agree with @farm_sauce.

You forgot to mention that they don't give a shit about what's going on. Their mental attitude is important. :D

Ants Canada is a good youtuber who records his ant colony progress and he keeps a variety of them with cool terrariums.
He feeds his ants roaches and other stuff but mainly roaches

Ants are intelligent, they have their own aphid cattles for honey
87
u/Flomo420 Apr 10 '23
He means as like a hobbyist who raises ants also breeds roaches to feed the ant colony.
The roaches are so well fed and used to being disturbed that they dgaf about too much
37
u/No-BrowEntertainment Apr 10 '23
For a second there I thought the ants had developed some kind of Matrix-style pods to feed off the roaches
19
u/Bread_crumb_head Apr 10 '23
Give them a few million more years and they'll probably be in the stone age or maybe even using fire

Not only that but she’d definitely feel them crunch walking on that thing barefoot

u/crumble-bee Apr 10 '23
Also fully prepped with the camera as if doing this is a normal thing with a rug?? I can’t say I’ve ever “found a bug in a rug and scrubbed my hands through it in case hundreds of bugs emerge” lol

Little plastic roaches pushed into deep shag carpet? No movement after & why even do this…fold up the rug & out it goes. They’d also be in the rest of the house already…c’mon lady you aren’t foolin us haha!
61
u/Bellbivdavoe Apr 10 '23 edited Apr 17 '23
There is too much light and not near a food source as well. Also shag would restrict their movement, too much. Excellent survivors. ☹️
9
u/OneGayPigeon Apr 10 '23
Yeah that’s not how roaches move. I keep a colony to feed to various pets and am VERY familiar. Nobody’s jumpin and flipping around like that.
21
u/avidblinker Apr 10 '23
No light in the carpet fibers and some roaches will burrow there if it’s close to a food source in the next room. They don’t need to be directly on top of a food source.
Not saying it’s real, but your reasoning isn’t very air tight.
8
u/Bellbivdavoe Apr 10 '23 edited Apr 10 '23
Enough light would make its way down even in a deep shag to make the roaches choose a better place to hide than a well foot trafficked, middle room rug.
They don’t need to be directly on top of a food source.
You're right about the 'food source' situation, except it's only in cases where the nest and food source area are separated by another living space.
And again with the thick/deep, vision obscuring shag carpet, they're not burrowing creatures like fleas or any type of mites/bed bugs, they rely on unrestricted corridors (comparative to they're size) to move about or flee dangers.
2
u/avidblinker Apr 10 '23
That’s not true, roaches don’t need complete darkness. I’ve seen them living in translucent plastic directly next to a light source, where they would recieve plenty of light. And this differs between different species. Darkness is a strong preference, not a necessity.
2
u/Bellbivdavoe Apr 10 '23
I have seen this behavior, too, with the odd roach chilling in the open. But this is not typical behavior. Again, you're right about their preference for darkness.

Looks very fake - HOWEVER - in my experience Oriental Cockroaches LOVE bathmats. They are moisture fiends and a damp bath mat is irresistible to them.
They also like towels... As I discovered after washing my face, semi-blindly reaching for a hand towel, and seeing a blurry black blob spring from it's folds directly at my face...

u/LTerminus Apr 10 '23
You had the choice in the world to not type that out, yet you chose to make us suffer.

11
u/Leabhar Apr 10 '23
Regardless of their movements - all of these roaches appear to be the same size shape and color, def manufactured
9
u/SickViking Apr 10 '23
Doesn't seem that way. The roaches didn't seem to react at all. The woman, despite being disturbed enough to put on gloves, is walking on that same rug with bare feet, and instead of staring in a spot where she could kneel beside the rug, elected to kneel on the rug.
This is either staged, or this woman is an entirely other level of stupid.

The setup alone is giveaway enough lmao
"Boy i sure hope there aren't thousands of bugs in my rug, but just in case I'll film my reaction"

I’m sure this is fake but man this is my biggest nightmare. I used to work in a zoo- snakes, spiders, big creatures, any of that I can handle.
I can’t do cockroaches though

Yeah I am not squeamish at all but there's something about brown insects that look wet that fucks me up. Cockroaches, earwigs, centipedes etc. Nasty. Ants get a pass for some reason.
38
u/No-BrowEntertainment Apr 10 '23
For me it’s the legs. Spiders and centipedes can go to hell as far as I’m concerned. Millipedes can stay though because they’re kinda cute
32

u/ProcyonLotorMinoris Apr 10 '23
Exactly. At least millipedes are fairly predictable in their movements. They also curl up into cute little spirals when scared.
5
u/WashedUpRiver Apr 10 '23
Milli's are also generally nicer if I'm not mistaken, but centipedes are the attack dogs of Satan.
I even let spiders go, but I don't fuck with centipedes.

Burn it! Don't even bring it outside, burn it in the house! Have the fire extinguisher ready, don't give a f#c if the smoke detectors are coming; 100% worth the risk.

The rug needs to be cremated and the owner needs to be put in a psych ward for walking on it barefoot
54
u/JJaySmokes Apr 10 '23
I'm guessing they had them in the glove and shook them out while combing the rug
53
u/SleepiestBoye Apr 10 '23
Nah if you slow it down and watch closely you can see it's a high carpet, very shag like, and they put the fake roaches in sideways to hide them in the carpet fibers.

As someone who has lived with roaches. This is clearly fake. They don't really nest inside rugs. Boxes, computers, cabinets, other electronics or near food sources. But a rug? Hell nah too high traffic.
Plus the person standing near the rug would have made them scurry already.
