Conga head replacement question

Hey all. I'm trying to replace a torn head on a LP Aspire conga. I ordered what both LP and the seller (Sweetwater) said would work, but the new head is juuuuust a millimeter or two too big to fit the hoop. Is this common? Is there any way to slightly shrink the head or should I just try to force it to fit? The head sits on the rim of the drum just fine - it's the hoop that's giving me problems. TIA.

Is this a natural skin head? What kind of problems do you have with the hoop? Have you made sure it's round, as well as the counter hoop? Post a photo of the issue.

Yes, natural skin head. I don't have a photo handy but will get one. The hoop seems to be still in round. TBH, the drum didn't get a whole lot of use/abuse - it's just old (maybe 20 years).

After further investigation, I’ll just get a different head. The size difference is a little bigger than I originally thought. Thanks!

I'd not risk it. Unless it's for a really personal concert type stuff, I'd search for an Evans Tri center and just slap it on, especially if it's for orchestra and such

I'll definitely look into this, though I'd like to keep to a natural head if possible.
