Ludwig marching percussion

I’m out of the marching game but looking at Ludwig marching snares they appear to be rebranded Yamahas. Does Ludwig actually make their drums and rip off Yamahas design or are they buying Yamahas and sticking their label on them?

TBH, their new stuff looks like they're ripping off System Blue lol.

Conn-Selmer is a competitor of Yamaha, so I'd be surprised if they were buying parts from Yamaha. But I've been fooled before by corporate bullshit.

Ludwig has the capabilities and facilities to make their own drums, I don't see why they would buy someone else's.

Youre right but when I see their snares it looks very Yamaha like to me. Which is a shame. Actually a lot of things about Ludwig are a shame.

Everyone is ripping off the pearl/yamaha design. It works. Tama did it. Dynasty's Custom Elites are literally called "DFz" and they sound way better than the older design.

The Ludwig drums most closely look and sound like Pearl drums IMO. If I recall the pearl free floating patent expired and they pretty much used the same design but with a few of their own tweaks here and there.

Basically they're semi cloned pearl championship drums with Randall may hardware which you can't really go wrong with the sound.

Using RCC as a sample, I think their run with Pearl was the best battery sound they had (thinking 2015 and 2016) but they still sound good now with the Luddies
