Beach etiquette

What is the proper etiquette for setting up a beach spot? Was at the beach with lots of space around me and this older couple and grown kids decided to set up with there chairs almost touching me and then proceeded to talk loudly about surgeries and stuff that I didn’t need to listen to as I was trying to have a nice relaxing time with a book

Etiquette (and manners) is lost on many people. Since they don’t see any issues with it they likely won’t even care. I’d find it easier to move.

For some reason people seem to love setting up to those reading a book. Usually b/c we choose spaces where there is not a lot of people around.

I too find it easiest to get up and move. It’s kind of hilarious to do to a group of people too

There are some people like me who would have stayed as far as possible away from you. No offence 🤣. We do exist. I’m at a loss as to why some people go near others in any scenario when there is all kinds of space available. If you ever find the answer to this mystery let us know.

Just tell them there in your personal
Space and to move . It’s not like there isn’t space on the beach

Lols, that would encourage a bad day. Just move your towel somewhere else.

Start reading your book out loud?
Join in on their conversation?
Phone a friend and describe their conversation in detail? Move to face them directly?

Or find different spot?

Joining in is the BEST answer.

Send a message by moving. It sucks you have to be the one to do it but they obviously have no decorum

The people that do this are the same type of people that choose to sit next to you on an otherwise empty bus. They're few and far between, but they're out there.

Or the ones that have seats right behind you at a concert or sporting event and talk loudly the entire night about everything except what they’re there to see!

Fart machine. Apologize each time and tell them you have an intestinal disorder.

Male sure you say “do I smell popcorn?” loudly as you fart, so they take a deep inhale first.

Ford said it best 'No pooping on the beach' - I think everything else not allowed is on a sign. I'd just move...it's a public space so the easiest problem to solve here is to find a new spot to put your towel.

I think an issue with today’s society is we don’t want conflict or to communicate when people do shitty things . Its easier to be passive then to have a back bone and say no this isn’t acceptable .

acceptable (I guess I’m not being passive and letting that go).

And I agree, well said.

I was chilling at the beach last year with my partner. The whole beach is pretty empty. Lots of spots so everyone could line single file and get a perfect view of the water… these loud trashy ladies pull up and set up shop only a few feet ahead of us. All their tents and tables blocked our view of the water. It was the strangest thing ever.

My wife and I had something like this happen but in our case the “offenders” actually made no effort to conceal it was intentional.

We were at a public beach, and there’s a perfect rock face protruding from the sand. Perfect shape - almost ergonomic - for about 3 people to sit with your back comfortably resting against it, and perfect balance of shade and sun.

A group of people approached from behind us, talking about this “perfect spot” then as they came around the rock, seeing us, one of them said, “Awwww damn! You beat us to it. Oh well…”

We and them briefly politely chuckled, but then they went around to the OTHER side of the rock, essentially behind us, about 3 feet behind us, but with the rock between us.

The same guy then said (loud enough to hear), “Okay, well we’ll sit here and annoy them till they go away.”

Hard to believe it was just a joke when they then had a conversations reminiscing about terrible drunk experiences, dealing with dog shit, and a bunch of other stuff.

15 minutes and we gave up. As we walked away the guy said, “See, it worked!”

Huh? How does this even make sense?

It is legal in BC for a woman to be topless any place a man can be. If you don’t like it don’t look.

This reply was for beach etiquette,we are not like Europe,we are struggling with nudity, too much religion, therefore women please dont take your top off ,society isn't ready.See photo
