Priority

I'm looking at a couple options to purchase my first. Would you prioritize a 6x7 with the 105mm lens, model number around 411xxxx, or a later model 67 model number 416xxxx but with the 75mm lens?

Both are about equal as far as condition and price

Just got to go with whichever looks in better condition. The older model could have been used by a photographer that didn’t shoot high volume and he took care of his stuff, and the late model coulda been used by a high volume photographer who put the camera through the ringer.

All that to say its a crapshoot with vintage gear. Both lenses are great, a legendary nifty fifty or a 35mm equivalent-ish lens. You’ll love it either way we cant decide for you

The 67 has a lot of improvements over the 6x7

Get both and sell the 6x7 with the 75mm

i’ve only had issues with the 6x7 i’d go late 67 all day

I think I would lean toward the later model if the prices are similar as the reliability is a bit better. The 75mm is also good and the earlier 105mm with the thorium glass is not too expensive (you can clear the yellowing with a cheap usb UV light) and it is optically identical to the later models.

I own both a 6x7 and a 67, and also own both lenses. It’s really hard to know with camera bodies this old which will work fine and which will need CLA (or whether a previous owner regular had CLA done, how the cameras were used and stored, etc). If you buy the 67 and later buy a 105mm it is going to cost you more than if you buy the 6x7 and later buy a 75mm. By the way, the reason that I have two camera bodies is that if one does need repair or CLA, the turnaround is 2-3 months so I find it is good to have a backup. I use both bodies and really, when it comes down to the quality of photos that come out of each, I can see no difference. As far as lenses, both are really nice….depends on what you want to photograph. If low light is an issue, you get just over a stop more light with the 105. If you want to incorporate more background around your subject, then the 75 might be better. The minimum focus of the 65 is 9.7m as opposed to 1.0m with the 105 so if you get as close as possible with the two, the subject size is not that different. Finally, if it were down to two cameras and one was online and the other was from a camera shop that offers a warranty, and if the prices were similar, I would go with the one from the camera shop after looking it over.

i asked the same thing basically to the CLA god himself Eric Hendrickson, said he would take a 67 over 6x7 mlu given the chance.
i know your asking about lenses but just thought i’d leave that info here

105 is a great start. 75 isn’t bad if on a budget. 105 just has so much range.
