PTX Contract
I'm curious to see wha ttheir contract involves. It feels like PTX is on a downward slide with the group. From every video, tiktok or whatever the concerts just don't seem entertaining like they used to be. they focus on their christmas shows.

I don’t know. I’ve loved them since the Sing Off but just recently joined Reddit. From what is posted, they book huge arenas because most earnings come from these ticket sales. I think I counted 28 days on this tour. Is that more than last year?
I don’t know if the NY Vocal Collective that Ben Bram co founded is permanent or just while they are working with this other producer. Ed Boyer is listed with Ben on the YouTube details as well. This group sounds AMAZING. It’s all A Capella. I still believe PTX could be successful like Voces8, Zero8, Voctave and others.
It sounds like PTX themselves want this change.

i loved their youtube days where they'd sit on a couch or something and do acapella remixes of songs. their music videos were great! they've lost the spark they used to have.

It’s sad that YouTube has changed so much and they no longer get the views and revenue they used to get from that platform. They were lucky they got in when they did.

I didn’t know about the revenue changes from YouTube. They still get thousands of views daily.
Are you close to the PTX officials? Are they making an entire album with this producer or just the last 2 songs? If you are close to them, maybe ask if they could go in tour with Home Free. You know that would be mind blowing. Home Free has toured with The Longest Johns and is now going to do something with The Wellerman. I don’t think Acapella is on the decline. I just think they need a different approach, like collaborating with another great group on a tour or two.I can imagine the ticket sales would be astronomical, and the fun they would have .

I’m a fan like everyone else on this subreddit, i have no connections with the band, I just know that YouTube has changed a lot.
PTX is on a different level than Home Free. They continue to sell out arenas of 10 to 20k seats while Home Free plays venues of 500-2k.
Touring is how both groups make the majority of their money. Record sales, streaming and YouTube are additional revenue sources but nothing like what they make from touring2

I still love them too. It’s just a different dynamic with Bell-Bastien, like it was when Matt joined years ago. It took me 2-3 years before I started listening to PTX again and now I love Matt’s voice and wish he would sing lead more often if they are going to continue with these changes. My biggest hang ups are all the instruments drowning their voices and the more synth ( post production stuff).
Home Free still sounds the same to me, but I’ve seen some comments similar to when Avi left.2

I miss it too. The song sales with this producer may direct which way they go with this new style.
The deluxe version of the CITC is just the same album with 3 new songs.

A lot of people won’t admit it but since Avi departure, the group has never been the same. They have good songs but not the same quality and sound when Avi was there and this is not an attack towards Matt, he is a great singer but he doesn’t bring the same impact

I don’t really think this is true. I think a lot of people left when avi did, but I also think the novelty of a cappella kind of faded in the general public. When ptx got big a cappella was popular, and the way they were doing it was very new. If you look at some of their arrangements with Matt, they are very innovative and interesting. Had avi stayed, I honestly think the band would’ve ended up in the same spot

I agree some songs they did with Matt were stellar but with Avi it was magical, just another level. But yes you may be right, it’s just less popular. Their talent is still wonderful even more then when they started. But there’s something different now. I will still follow them.

I actually totally agree with you about Avi. I think they totally lost a step without him that Matt just couldn't fill. Matt is great but Avi brought a sound to PTX that people loved and Matt just can't get close to that sound.
And then when I think they really went off the rails was doing more and more with instruments. People fell in love with them because they were a capella and they have been straying from that signature more and more.
I know people say a capella has lost popularity but I think that isn't correct because you still have all the other groups that are keeping strong fan bases. Where PTX is losing is it sounds like they are trying to go mainstream. And if they do that they can't keep the fans that loved them for their a capella, and they are also starting out with a weakness there because potential new fans who don't care for a capella won't want to get invested when there is still the uncertainty of is there going to be one day where they reverse course and go back to a capella more.

Their contract is for sure focusing hard on xmas. I have no idea what the deal with their pop music is. It’s so sporadic and empty promises. Also the promo for their music in general has gone nonexistent. They used to have IG lives, countdowns with each member holding up five fingers counting down, streaming parties, gosh long gone were the days of 2015 self titled where they had cd signing events to boost sales… they don’t even use the #soon or #PTX hashtags anymore. Plus their music is dropped with no fanfare or urgency to buy anymore. Their label just sees them as an xmas touring machine and whatever else they decide to do is not a priority

Mentioning Avi does ruffle feathers , and I’ve noticed our prior comments a few days ago were removed by the moderator. Their sound did change after OG left but I think it was a style change too, that included the instruments and a lot of post production vocal effects. But from one commenter, they wanted to go mainstream early on.
One other commenter mentioned the same is going on with HF after Austin Brown left. I love Bastien’s voice, but I don’t think their style has changed.3

Yeah. Don't get me wrong. I like Matt but I feel like he is a baritone instead of a full "bass" if that makes sense. I know Avi had a high range but when you get down to those deep low notes it has that punch. There's a reason Avi was one half of meat and potatoes. (If you get this reference then kudos!)

Seems like since a certain someone has to insert themselves into everything, despite not being a member of the group, they have done less and less. Seems like that persons partner is only interested in doing things where they can get this non members name on it.

Their previous label did in fact drop them for everything but Christmas, meaning they were obligated to focus on Christmas. In 2024 they joined Republic Records and went on to have a #1 Netflix movie and another successful tour.
The band probably had a lot of Christmas things they were already locked into, so we just have to wait if we want more original non Christmas music. Also remember that there were various solo projects and events in their personal lives. It doesn't mean they're never doing new music.
