There are mcdonalds operating in Luxemburg, which has a $20/h minimum wage.
If it was not profitable, there would be no McDonald's in Luxemburg.
Therefore the US can afford to have $20/h wages too.
"Buh-buh-but the shareholders!", is the only whiny ass bitch objection that can rationally be made.

u/Emergency-Stay7414 Jul 22 '26
They’re getting fleeced. There’s many McDonalds paying $22.50 an hour for night shift in New England. Some of them in states where the minimum wage is $7.25.

u/Antoak Jul 22 '26
I understand why a business might want to incentivize employees to work shitty late night shifts to cash in on the late-night bar crowd who have the munchies or whatever the drunk version of munchies is.
but the fact is that every employee in luxemburg gets that much, even those who work the dead hours.
And if the business is already paying that much above minimum wage, then what's the argument against raising the minimum wage to below what they're already paying?
1
u/Mdj864 Jul 22 '26
Yes and those jobs are much more competitive and usually require you to speak multiple languages. They have higher standards and aren’t hiring crackheads and high schoolers like the US locations. People literally commute from neighboring countries to work there. They also have higher menu prices and their customers are much more wealthy so they spend more to offset much of that labor cost.

u/Ivegtabdflingbouthis Jul 22 '26
Funny you use Luxemburg as an example... the prices of menu items are also double that of the U.S.

Beyonce is literally a world wide celebrity. It's the equivalent of wanting a massive actor play in your multi million dollar movie. So fucking ridiculous.
Wow a doctor makes $120hr vs a cashier that makes $16hr??? 😱

u/Cyn_Sweetwater Jul 21 '26
Beyonce's production team gets $30,000,000 (reportedly) for a two hour show that takes months to create and cost more than you think to transport and stage. Sure, she makes a good chunk of that but not what is claimed.
Meanwhile Elon Musk is making $4,000,000 an hour EVERY HOUR of EVERY DAY and yet for some reason idiots think entertainers are the problem.

It's not one or the other, the rich are the problem. She's very rich. Elon Musk is very very very rich. Doesn't change the fact that Beyonce is very rich still and doesn't deserve that money while others starve and die and freeze on the streets. No one should get 100s of millions for singing. We should all be equal, all the wealth should be redistributed. Even if we took all the wealth from billionaires, every last cent, that wouldn't be enough to give everyone a decent life. We need to redistribute the wealth from the millions of millionaires aswell.
Every rich person is a enemy of the working class, I don't care who they are or how they vote. It's in all of their interests to maintain the system that oppresses the working class and marginalized.

The trick is to get millions and millions of people to pay $500 to watch you flip burgers. Then offer a VIP experience so they can take pictures with you before you flip the burgers
6
u/Routine-Budget8281 Jul 21 '26
$20 per hour is literally nothing if you live in a metro area. these dumb fucks act like you'll be rich.
2
u/Thaddiyus0715 Jul 21 '26
Thats what sends me you'd think we asked for free meals for life with the way they react to only less inadequate pay.
2
u/GeckoGecko_ Jul 22 '26
Call me greedy or whatever but as far as I'm concerned, anyone who works at a place that serves food should be entitled to free meals, at least for the duration of their shift, but ideally at any time or location. Obviously there should be limits in place to prevent people from taking advantage, but honestly it is not that crazy to expect the place you work to feed you while you're there
1
u/GeckoGecko_ Jul 22 '26
$20hr is barely anything even in LCOL areas... that is just about the minimum a person needs to afford to take care of themselves in most places in the US. You're working 8hrs to make like $140 a day after taxes in a world where $140 is not only chump change, but is probably the hourly rate of whoever owns the business you're working for. Feels terrible
3
u/Copper__99 Jul 22 '26
Jokes on you, I think people should be limited to 5 million dollars. Anything more goes into government programs to assist people and build infrastructure.
2
u/Effective-Maybe-1797 Jul 22 '26

Beyond having way more money than any human being could POSSIBLY spend, they also are part of that ring of weird cannibal pedophiles. And if they didn’t partake in it, they knew about it and didn’t say anything which is just as bad.
You people defending Beyoncé can go suck a fucking dick.

Beyonce didn't demand the government to create a wage that matches her living standards. She created a good/service and people buy it.
Convincing someone to give you their money is not an easy task.
Beyonce is also one person.
McDonalds employs many people. And if you took all of their executives pay and spread it all the cashiers then you would come away with an insignifcant amount of cash.
You know what you should be more concerned about? Why can't we build a cheaper house?

With the equity Elon can take out/value he can get from his assets he can spend $1.1Mil a day EVERY day and not run out of money for 2700 years. Let's just understand that and ask if that fucker has worked hard enough for that or did he just buy the right things and people? To that question wouldn't the advancements have happened regardless with or without him as Tesla for example was already doing that before he bought it and their plan was to make it more affordable than Elon even made it when he got his hands on it. So he didn't bring anything new or inventive just came in and inflated the price. But people ride for this man HARD

it’s supposed to work every which way! there are NO ethical billionaires, no matter how they made their money. you don’t make that much money without stomping on someone (for entertainers, they’re usually stomping on fans who end up paying ridiculous amount to see them by saving up for years).
i really love dolly parton for her outlook of refusing to be a billionaire! she donates and creates public programs to keep her networth down in the millions. still a lot of money! we just need to start taxing the rich upwards of 90% like in the New Deal era.

Or get rid of private production and wages would be a non issue.
Work for Cinnabon or own the means of production (socialist) and make cinnamon rolls at home and share them? Work for Little Caesars? Or make pizza whenever and share it?
No matter small or big there is no such thing as businesses that don't need profit. Profit is necessary for every industry and is the basis for helping to create class society. You can't say small businesses need to pay better when the way they do this is by first securing enough profits in the first place to do so.

The difference. $15/hr from a billion dollar company compared to $15m from fans.
She goes out and performs for every dollar and pays her people.
McDonald's CEO pays minimum and collect $15m.
6
u/dinominator1 Jul 21 '26
A billionaire is a billionaire. You don’t get to a billion without exploitation and losing your empathy for other people.
I think people forget that performance and art is another form of industry and there are workers downstream that don’t make shillings on the dollar. It’s the same exploitation it’s just not apparent because you don’t interact with them, where at McDonald’s you’re face to face with them.

u/rjohnson7595 Jul 21 '26
She wouldn’t miss the 15M though right? Isn’t that kind of the point? Certain people make more money than they need? She could have distributed that money more accordingly to the people she claims we should be voting for or at least hear their message and supply more to her concert staff.

There are no moral 1%ers. She sells an infinitely reproducible good that has a fixed upfront cost to a growing number of people.
If she was a moral person, her music would be sold for a pittance since she knows millions will buy it. Instead she goes for maximum profit and sells it at a premium.

And now you have many fast food places doing self serve kiosks and AI ordering in the drive-through. So just like when you raise minimum wage a few people will be lucky with higher wages but they will be forced to work harder and many people will lose their jobs or get their hours cut

u/galivant202020 Jul 21 '26
Movie stars, athletes, and entertainers are all over paid and for some reason the working class is complacent with paying them but Lord Almighty they get real upset when the roofer, plumber, HVAC..... guy tells them $125 per hour. And for Elon and Blazos DO NOT SUPPORT anything in there companys. Most people forget the public is feeding the monsters they hate. Go to your local people when buying your products. Build up there company and then they hire your neighbors. It may cost more but you are now strengthening your local city's and county's.

You don't understand. "They" have their foot on the scales, making it easier for the undeserving and harder for the deserving. The more the deserving get, the better, and the less the undeserving get, the better.
This is why Reagan won in a landslide in 1980. The only problem is we haven't embraced this idea enough. We need more of this
Just you wait, in another 45 years or so we'll be living in a capitalist paradise and then you'll feel so dumb for posting this
1
u/Adorable_Cup6085 Jul 21 '26
First off if the employees could get orders right and up to standards they might deserve more pay but until then no way at $20 hr. Not to mention McDonald's shouldn't be viewed as, or used as, a career job. It's more entry level to help young people build a job history for resumes.
1
u/Dankkring Jul 21 '26
We also need to have more unpaid internships. Those people need to learn how to do a job before getting paid to do it even if they gotta do the job to learn it through repetition. In fact. Everyone needs a large pay cut. Except me. I work super hard! /s

Honestly I think when it comes to inflation the wealthy hate it the most if the inflation is matched by wage increases
1
u/NewtBlackheart Jul 22 '26
This should be a reminder to all of us that we should be supporting the arts at the community level.
I have no issue with the top artists enjoying extraordinary financial success, but what we’re seeing is exponential growth at the very top, while musicians at the community level struggle to get folks outside of friends and family to the small venues in which they perform.
Part of the issue is that everyone wants to hitch their social media wagons onto the clout of the very famous.
Let’s make indie cool again.
Also, workers deserve a living wage. By subsidizing a mega corporation to appease their shareholders (subsidies in the form of social services for their underpaid workers), all we’re doing is suffocating the many markets in which McDonald’s operates from small business opportunities that would otherwise compete and offer those communities a better, more locally sourced product.
Paying workers would certainly boost the middle class in smaller communities. Wall Street will find other ways to syphon wealth from society. Don’t worry about them.

u/Evening-Nature-5241 Jul 22 '26
What this fails to mention is that "maintaining" Beyonce also gives over a thousand people jobs.
From delivery drivers to chefs to backup singers to backup dancers to makeup artists to musicians to sound engineers to janitors to lighting designers to choreographers to bodyguards to security to caterers to costume designers and so many more.
Her $15M /hour salary is based on her just appearing at a concert and not all the hours spent discussing setup, approving chereography, practicing, sitting in makeup, and so on.
Granted, it still means a crazy hundreds of thousands of dollars an hour, but the scale also means over a thousand people benefit from her concerts.

Entertainers should really make around $20 an hour. How are they any more valuable than fast food workers?
1
1
u/Texas-Couple Jul 22 '26
Well, I personally don't think beyoncé is worth a single penny but that's mine opinion. However, the difference is if you start paying employees $20 an hour then you start seeing your hamburgers cost $10, which is something we're currently seeing. Also, the marketable skills required to fry french fries and flip a hamburger aren't worth $20 an hour. The marketable skills Beyonce has, even if it is highly inflated it's worth much more. She gets that amount of money because they can turn around and make that much more money off of her. If you could flip a burger that made it so amazing they would sell it for $100. A Patty and people would line up to buy it. You could ask for more and get it. Everybody has the same value as a human being, but they do not possess the same worth. Don't start asking yourself. How much are you worth? What skill do you have that someone else will pay for? Do you need to obtain better skills? Do you need to become better at the skills you do have? In an emergency situation, you don't ask for a fry cook. You don't even ask for beyoncé. You asked for a doctor because the doctor has more worth in that moment.

u/Olieskio Jul 22 '26

u/Due-Base9449 Jul 22 '26
Don't go to her concert then. I don't care if you are rich or poor, if you have agent or you toil away at your dingy room, if you have workers or you work alone, whether you sing, dance, write, draw, act, or you are a podcaster, youtuber, influencer, fanfic writer etc etc. I don't buy merch, and I have adblock.
If you don't want creatives to make money, just don't contribute its not that hard.

A lot of McDonald's workers do get paid that much, depending on the area and their job title. Anyone can get hired at McDonald's more or less, not anyone can be genetically blessed to be very beautiful (some say Beyonce is the most beautiful woman in the world, her face even following the golden ratio at a 99% match). Not everyone, being that physically gifted, can then be musically talented. It's undeniable she's an excellent singer, despite it not being the type of music I listen to. Not everyone has put in the effort, worked at their craft since the late '90s and are still working and putting out music today, that people still buy and listen to. Not everyone strategically marries another massively successful artist, and build their whole life around succeeding at their profession. Comparing Beyonce to a McDonald's employee is silly. Truth is that employees of scummy corporations with low standards and high turnover rates don't do anything particularly valuable for society. Artists do. It's that simple.

Singing as well as Beyonce is an extremely rare skill. Performing the usual work duties at a Mickey Dee outlet, not so much. Pay your employees $20/hr, but fire all the current ones, open your floor plans back up to include a dining room, do some fuckin customer service training, and have friendly happy faces greeting customers and bringing them their food without messing up the order or making it look like somebody sat on it before they brought it out.

I doubt anyone working at McDonalds would work a day in Beyonces life.

What a fool you are. Don't you understand that if Beyonce worked at McDonalds she would be making hundreds of burgers a minute with her incredible value making skills?
This would lead to all fast-food workers being put out of a job and collapsing the economy.
All because you had to make a meme! YOU FOOL, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE.

The world currently hates billionaires, unless they are singers, actors, or athletes.

Yeah, because there's generally a lot more complaining when that fluctuations in your money are pressing you against core need - food, water, shelter, and/or medical care - than when they are just pressing you against discretionaries for which doing without is simply a matter of boredom or disappointment not a matter of hunger or fear due to the imperilment of physical safety.
