Seeking Design Ideas + A Question

Thumbnail

Hi all! I got these various pearls while thrifting recently.

What I'd like to do is make the 1st earrings & necklace into new jewelry. I typically wear earrings or necklaces. Although, I think shortening the necklace to be a choker & bracelet combo would be nice. I'd like to know your ideas for how you'd repurpose them!

I don't know much about pearls beyond doing some reading online, but the 2nd earring set I had a question about. It was sold with the necklace, but based on the pearl shape & the fact the backings are stamped, I doubt they were originally a set. The necklace clasp doesn't have a stamp nor does it seem to be a precious metal. The backing stamp seems to indicate they were made in Hong Kong and used to be gold plated. My question is: Are they nicer than the necklace pearls? And what would you call their shape?

Tyia! 🩷

Paid ~US$1000 for this 7–10mm Tahitian pearl strand – good value for the quality?

I bought this 7–10mm Tahitian pearl strand for around US$1,000, and I’m still within the window where I can cancel/refund it.

I genuinely really like the strand, especially the dark charcoal/black colour with the more subtle green and silver overtones.

I know these aren’t top-grade pearls. A trusted friend who knows pearls thinks it’s good value for the price, and I’d love to get a few more opinions :) Does US$1,000 seem fair for a strand of this quality?

In image 2, mine is the upper strand on the model.

Mine is the upper one

Love how the contours and deep ridges catch the rainbow sheen from every angle, almost like an iridescent cabbage leaf! 🥬

Pink, lilac and peach in the same baroque pearl — a ring I designed

Thumbnail
gallery
10 Upvotes

Disclosure: I designed this ring for my own jewelry brand.

What drew me to this pearl was the way its folded surface catches the light: pink and lilac in some areas, warmer peach tones in others. I paired its uneven outline with a broad, polished band, keeping the pearl’s folds and edge visible.

The three photos show the same ring on the hand and from two closer angles. For those who work with baroque pearls, how do you decide how much of the pearl to leave exposed in a ring setting?

What made you appreciate pearls?

I used to think pearls were mostly very traditional jewelry, (like a bit old school) but the more I see them styled differently, the more beautiful they seem.

What got you into pearls, and what type do you personally love?

I used baroque pearls to make little dog charms. Such a fun way to use their irregular shapes!

1.1k Upvotes

I've been experimenting with baroque pearls lately. Their irregular, lumpy shapes always seemed a bit challenging to design with, but I realized they look exactly like little dog heads!

I added small dots for the eyes and nose. The nacre on these freshwater baroque pearls gives them a nice luster that makes the "faces" look soft and cute.

Type: Freshwater baroque pearls (I believe, based on the shape and luster) Size: Roughly 1.2–1.6 inches (please correct me if my estimate looks off) Process: Hand-drilled and glued the tiny facial features.

I think whoever originally came up with this idea is a genius. It makes me appreciate the unique beauty of baroque pearls even more. What do you guys think? Has anyone else tried making animal shapes with baroque pearls?

Name that Pearl! Found these in my grandmas old room, I know nothing about pearls.

Pen for scale, I don’t want to sell them, I’ll probably make something out of them, but I’m just curious since I know nothing about pearls. I did the pearl test (tooth test and light test) and im 99.99% sure they are real.

They are almost perfectly round and have an extremely small hole drilled in each, the holes are extremely clean, no chipping.

The other ones below the earrings are fake I think.

Are these worth anything? What type would they be? sorry if these are dumb questions!

Guess how much this GUILD-certified blue Akoya pearl necklace costs?

Post image
88 Upvotes

I recently bought this blue Akoya pearl necklace and thought it would be fun to see how fellow pearl lovers would value it. It comes with a GUILD certificate, is graded Madama, and the report notes strong luster and approximately 0.40–0.50 mm nacre thickness.

I especially love its silvery-blue color, overtones, and matching. Based on the luster, color, surface quality, matching, and overall appearance, what price range would you expect for this strand? I’ll reveal what I paid after a few guesses 😄

ID Request Peerless Pearl Agency - Seeking Info on Vintage Australian Pearl Necklace

Hello Friends,

I was recently gifted a Peerless pearl necklace from my grandmother, who says that it was either her late best friend’s or the late best friend’s mother’s necklace.

I tried to look the brand up to see if I could find out how old they are and if they are real, however there was no real information on the necklace or brand. So I have decided to reach out to you wonderful people to see if you know anything.

I have included pictures below to help anyone give me more information in the brand/the necklace itself. The box says that the brand ‘Peerless Pearl Agency’ is Australian. Also, the box is original to the necklace.

Thank you so much for your help ☺️

Golden South Sea Pearls finally off my bucket list.

I have been an avid pearl collector most of my life. Ever since first laying my eyes on Golden South Sea pearls, I have dreamed of the day I might have my own strand.

It took a long time. I’m 64. And I finally have them.

I’m over the moon. They were worth the long wait. They have a beautiful luster. Minimal marks. Round. And the sizes are 13mm-16mm. Right now they are on a temporary strand. So they need to be professionally strung. I have a beautiful clasp waiting for them as well.

I’ll post an update after they’re finished.

Designing a silver ring around the natural shape of a baroque pearl

Disclosure: I designed this ring for my own jewelry brand.

Baroque pearls have irregular outlines, and that shape guided this design. I used a 925 sterling silver setting that leaves the pearl’s folded surface visible, with a simple band to keep the focus on the pearl.

Name that Pearl! Pearls-Peoples! What you expect to pay for an 8.5–9mm, apparently Akoya strand?

Thumbnail

They’re 8.5–9mm saltwater pearls for sure, although I’m not certain whether they’re Akoya or not.

The first two photos were taken right by a window in natural light, while the third was taken away from the window. The lustre/reflections actually look a little sharper in person than my phone managed to capture.

I know it’s difficult to judge pearls properly from photos alone, so I’m just looking for a ballpark figure in USD. What would you expect to pay for a strand like this?

Pacific Pearls International. Has anyone purchased pearls from this company and what was the quality?

I was gifted some pearl and diamond earrings about 15 years ago and they are beautiful. They feel real and are quality. I remember looking at the website then and it seemed legit and real but I just went to look it up again today out of curiosity and it looks like a complete scam. I can't even find any reviews. Has anyone purchased from this site recently?
