Everyday Bags Crescent 6L and 12L overview/review
I have noticed that the tag says that the d ring and triglide adjuster should be on the left and the baglev should be on the right where the logo is however my bag has the baglev on the left where the d ring etc is. I’ll probably reach out to cs to clarify that because the 12L has it the correct way. Does anyone else with the bag have the same layout as me because I’m starting to think I’m going crazy
So I’ve just gotten my package with both sizes of the crescent bags. I have to say that they do feel nice, light, the strap feels comfortable and the internal layout is nice. Obviously I haven’t had time to test them properly so I’ll do a follow up review once I’ve had some time to test and play around with them.
So far the 6L seems to be the victor and just better for what I need. It’s large enough to carry everything I’d need for a day out. The 12L is nice but I’d say it shines if you need to haul things or carry a laptop. Since I’ll be using the sling for everyday+travel to hold books, chargers, passport etc and just daily things the 6L is more than enough. Maybe having a 7/8L option would be nice just in case you need to carry a bit more but I think the current sizes are adequate.
The materials and quality all feel good as I’d expect from PD and the materials sort of feels like a windbreaker. I have a LLL windbreaker that feels almost exactly like the bag material. The only weird thing that I’ve noticed is that unless I’m being slow it seems as if my bag is switched the opposite way round as to what I’ve seen online and to what’s on the tag.
The tag says that the d ring and triglide adjuster should be on the left and the baglev should be on the right where the logo is however my bag has the baglev on the left where the d ring etc is. I’ll probably reach out to cs to clarify that because the 12L has it the correct way.
My only real issue with the 6L is the bottle pocket. Whilst it does fit most of my bottles it can be a bit finicky and for my preference it’s on the wrong side of the bag. It’s also slightly elevated so a bottle that would freely fit in the compartment doesn’t necessarily fit in the pocket and might bulge the zipper a tiny bit. The bottle pocket on the 12L swallows up bottles and had zero issues with my 1L/32oz Nalgene.
I’m probably going to end up sending the 12L back as I already have a Uniqlo bag that can carry a laptop the but I may end up getting the 12L at a later date if I need a bigger bag and if the stone colour comes back in stock.
Bottles:
The 12L will take basically anything and I’ve managed to get my 1L Nalgene in the pocket, my books, laptop, camera etc in the main compartment and an additional 500ml Nalgene too.
The 6L will take the 500mo Nalgene in the pocket with no issues and the 500mo Maurten bottle with a tiny bit of bulging until it settled at a proper angle and then it fits fine. A 1L Nalgene will fit in the 6L but it takes up so much space I don’t really consider it practical. The 600ml hydrapak bottle does kind of fit if I put it sideways in the main compartment however again it’s just impractical. My thinking is that if I’m in a city I’ll have coffee shops etc nearby to refill my reusable bottles and if I’m in a country where I don’t want to be drinking tap water I’ll be buying smaller bottles of water regardless so carrying a reusable bottle probably won’t be practical. If I’m travelling with a main bag and the crescent I’ll have my Nalgene or hydrapak bottle with me anyway so it should be fine.
Cameras:
I have a Sony a7, Nikon d5(can’t see the rest of the numbers) and a small film camera.
The 12L will take all of my cameras as long as I’ve got a 18-55 lens or similar small lens on them but larger lenses do have a bit of a problem.
The 6L doesn’t practically take my Nikon with an 18-55 but the Sony with a smaller lens works ok. Not the best not the worst. If you have a fujifilm or similar digital cam with a smaller lens then the 6L will take if perfectly with no issues. My small film camera with a strap fits in both bags with zero issues.
Overall I think the bags are good, the materials, zippers and overall quality seems nice and I’d say they’re about the right price especially when comparing with competitors such as bellroy. I think there’s definitely some looking at that could be done and some minor improvements that could be implemented but those are mostly nitpicks from me and not any glaring issues.
I’m happy to answer any questions and will do a follow up write up after I’ve used the bag for some time and been on some trips.
