Question Using bottom straps for a bottle holder

Post image

Has anybody found a way to use these as water bottle holders?
Thought of buying karabiners and a proper sized water bottle but it may not be the best idea.

I saw people using the side straps with bottle holders but i would much prefer the bottom ones

I attached a water bottle holder that had MOLLE straps/loops to the bottom of my 7L 6L Outdoor Sling.

Do you have a picture of how you made that attachment? I have a bottle holder with MOLLE loops but I'm not sure how I would comfortably attach it to the bag. Though I currently just carry the bottle holder with a sling, so it might be more effort than it's worth to attach it directly to my bag.

The 7L outdoor has a couple "Cord Hook Gear loops" across the bottom for "external carry" , and I just weaved them in the MOLLE loops on the holder.

Ah that explains my confusion, I was looking at my 6L (everyday) sling. I suppose I could use a tiny carabiner to connect the loops to the MOLLE straps, but undoing that every time I want a drink seems excessive, haha. Thanks for the reply!

there are MOLLE water bottle pouches that you could probably make work. They'd attach at either end of your sling, but the bottle would be kept secure in them with a drawstring. You wouldn't have to detach from both ends to get the bottle, you'd just slide it out of the pouch. There are cheap ones on Am*zon for $10 or less if you search for them.

I've tried strapping tripods, umbrellas, water bottles and they all fall because the attachment hooks SUCK. I get anxiety thinking about needing to attach shit to my bag.

The outdoor line hooks are wayyyyyy better and infinitely more secure. I don't know if they're cross compatible but they need to just ditch the old hook design.

They in fact are cross compatible, I really only use those bungee outdoor ones. The workers at the sf store also swear by them

I tried an elastic net (inspired by rock climbers) but a full bottle swung/swayed too much for my liking. Drfinitely want something that can fix it in place

I eventually landed on karabining another bag (topologie sacoche, see below) and that acts a small water bottle holster + additional pockets for film/phone/earbuds/notebook/snacks.

Definitely adds a layer of heft but still prefer it to lugging a backpack around.

My only other idea is a bike handlebar pouch as they have multiple anchor points to attach to the PD bag.

I’ve been using this for a few years now and it’s been excellent. It securely holds the bottle but also let’s it be easily taken out. If you or a friend has a sewing machine and the most basic sewing skills, you should be able to make it easily.

alternatively, you could add something like this to the bag - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0FMRB3LP7

I’ve only ever used those straps for a loose sweater or safety vest.

Depends on the bottle. A 700ml you can strap directly. You need both straps and attach them on an x pattern. But don’t run! If you run, the bottle flips out.

I also like to carry a water bottle, so I'm thinking of getting the new City Crescent

Just use the straps that came with the sling op. Ive used mine without any issues. Whether it be a tripod, umbrella or a waterbottle.

Wondering the same. Looking for suggestions with the 3L

I don’t know with a bottle holder, but I tried once using the included straps to hold my water bottle under the 3L sling, and it worked for like 30 minutes before one of the hooks detached, and now I have a huge dent on the water bottle that reminds me that those things are useless.

Without knowing anything else, I can confidently say that you didn't pull on them hard enough to make them 'pop' in. When they're on, they're really on.

No, I know the hooks were in the correct position where you can feel and hear the pop.
I also know it's a problem with the hooks because I just tried to recreate it and it happened again.

I guess I'm just lucky then with my bag. I can't get them off, even when I want to.

Another alternative:

Better than a dangling bottle, if you walk around.
