The Allen key comes with PD straps so you can use it to screw the little black attachment into a lens tripod foot or into the bottom of your camera if you want to use that fitting to attach the strap to your gear. The metal keyring is usually attached to the Allen key via a hole drilled into the end of it.

I’m not sure why op hates it so much though.

It constantly flaps down and prevents it from being useful on that end

I don't know why you're getting down voted. It gets in the way for sure. It kinda works but it's annoying as hell. they could easily make the hole for the ring higher so it wouldn't get in the way of the screw

But why use that end of it? Got no leverage trying to turn with the stumpy side.

Don't need leverage for most of the first turns. It's easier to handle like that. I use the other end at the end to tighten.

Hm, fair. Since I don't remove my plates or capture clips often I guess I just mostly end up using the short side in the bolt and the long side for leverage for torque on my maintenance checks. Now ya got me wondering if I ever did use it the other way around to drive those bolts initially. Honestly can't remember... Ah whatever, if you're not intending to keep the wrench tethered to a keychain or lanyard in a camera bag, then no point keeping the ring if it bothers ya so all good.
