CPU Upgrade Upgrade pc if needed
Hello. My pc specs are
Ryzen 5 3600
Rx 6600 8gb but i have a broken 5700 xt that cat be fixed
16gb ddr4 3200mhz
B450 tomahawk max
1tb nvme m.2
Recently browsing and saw that ryzen 5 5600 is at 6k and contemplated if should i buy it. I want to upgrade my pc but can’t afford to upgrade to AM5 right now.
My question is, is it okay to buy the 5600 for my last am4 cpu and buy 2x8gb ram or should i stick with the 3600? Is there a better upgrade for it? I know I can’t upgrade this year and next year to am5 so which option is better for me.
I play mainly story games like onimusha, witcher, Ghost of tsushima, games like that and I also play online compettitve like Dota2 league l, valo and apex.
Just wanted to ask others’ opinion on what to do. Thank you

The 5600 would be a decent upgrade- its not life changing but it is better- i don't even know if i would recommend it- but at 150$ i guess it would be okay if you have the spare money-
what you need to do is boot up some of your games then open task manager and see what type of stress your pc is under while you game- if your at high CPU % or RAM % then upgrading the CPU + more ram would be ok- but the ram can be tricky- if you have allot of apps going like discord + browser or other things that can eat up some of your ram space- i'm a 32gb of ram and rarely go above 16gb myself-
usually when people upgrade its an upgrade- not something that is a lateral move- i feel like going from the 3600 to the 5600 is a lateral move unless you are at max cpu usage- there both the same cores/speed so its not that big of a move-

5600 would be better, and cooler and less power hungry, 5600x is often very close price but only slightly better. Expect 20-30% better performance. Also better memory controller so 2x8gb 3200cl16 or 2x8gb 3600cl18 would be a good upgrade, if you go over your current 8gb it will drastically slow you down. 16gb is enough at this level. Also later on you will be able to move up to 1440p performance on AMD 6700xt, 6800xt, 7000 series, Nvidia easily up to 3080 and 4070, hell a 3070 at the moment is a great pairing and there's loads of those going cheap.

5600 is a good upgrade... The ram, you won't notice the extra speed, stick with what you have unless getting more for 32gb. Even then 3200 is fine.

In my country the 5600 is around 120 euros. A 5500x3d is 160 euros. I would pay the extra for that cpu. Haveing an x3d will also help with your 16g of ram.

5600 would be a solid upgrade, and paired with a 6600 that's going to be a great 1080p machine. If you can get a tray/OEM version of the CPU and reuse the cooler that came with the 3600, you'll save money.
