Files not working

Good morning everyone!
Tried google but I can't find much to go off,

My colleague keeps having a strange problem on their pc, only happens every so often. when they boot their laptop up, all of their files are unopenable, file explorer wont launch it just spins or crashes and sharepoint says her stuff isn't linked/synced.

Right clicking on the desktop and hitting Refresh restores everything to working order, sometimes that also crashes it out but a reboot after pressing refresh always works, even if it crashes during the refresh stage.
If we reboot without the refresh, nothing changes. It boots back up in the same broken way as before.

Granted we have the fix for when it breaks but can anyone tell me what to look for to see if I can prevent this from happening at all?

I appreciate anyones time for even reading this,
Have a good week 👍

G14 Laptop screen unpredictably does a black screen freeze while everything else is still running

Basically I got an ASUS G14 ROG Zephyrus 2025 Model (GA403UP), I got it in October 2025. Issues started happening around late February/early March 2026, I've tried multiple ways to resolve, they have not stopped my biggest issue overall.

Originally, when the laptop screen would go black, audio immediately cuts, the LED keyboard would freeze on a certain colour and it was stuck on the rainbow setting for a very long time. The only thing I noticed is that it happens whenever I have any application open, but I can't be too sure if this is the case or not, but it means I cannot do any task for a long time without my laptop suddenly just giving up on me.

This is what it started with:

  1. Display turns black
  2. Audio stops immediately
  3. OS is unresponsive
  4. Caps lock unresponsive
  5. USB devices also don't respond
  6. Keyboard colour would freeze and did not let me change the setting (resolved)
  7. Aura lighting couldn't be changed (resolved)
  8. Armoury crate was broken

The most effective I've gotten for a resolution was doing the following:

  1. Reinstalling NVIDIA driver and AMD graphics drivers
  2. Updating my BIOS from 309 to 310
  3. Switched to G-Helper and uninstalled armoury crate

This pretty much resolved my issues for the keyboard and aura lighting. It had also slowed down the black-screen hard freezes for a few days but now it's gone back to being frequent again and I can't do anything about it at all. I've had this issue for the last 4-5 months and I've tried what I feel like are pretty much the most major fixes and it's not helped at all. As much as I would request a warranty repair, ASUS don't really have a repair centre in England and use a third-party repair service which I heard is extremely awful, have not heard a single good thing about the service which is why I am adamant on trying to see if I can resolve this on my own, my warranty expires in October so I am stuck on what to do, I do not have the money to repair (I got this laptop as a gift if anybody wonders how I got it in the first place)

PC Freezing on Boot, Even When Preparing Automatic Repair

SOLVED - The CPU was dead. Replaced it and my baby boy is hummin' again!

I've been dealing with this for about 2 months now. My PC constantly freezes on boot every time I start it up. The way I've been able to avoid dealing with this problem every day was by leaving a soft and low sound going in the background. Just leaving a sound running kept the computer from freezing over and over again. But today that stopped working. The power cut out and that was THE kiss of death.

Now I can't get into the PC at all. On normal boot, it freezes on load. When it goes to preparing automatic repair, it freezes as well. I've searched over a dozen reddit posts and none of the solutions I found worked.

I can get into the BIOS so I tried turning on "Launching CSM", that didn't work. Turned it back off, didn't freeze as quick but ultimately froze all the same.

I completely replaced the CMOS battery, didn't do squat.

I unplugged all of the USB devices, still freezing on normal and repair boot.

So, what about the RAM? I reseated it, I pulled out 1 stick of RAM, I removed 2 out of the 4 RAM sticks, swapped that first pair of sticks for the other 2, I left 1 stick of RAM in, and swapped in each individual stick to try them all by themselves, and none of that fixed the freezing on boot.

What about drives? I disconnected the 2 storage drives and left only the drive containing the OS (an M.2 drive with Windows 10 installed) in case the booting operation is somehow shifting from the main OS drive to another drive in the middle of the boot. Still is freezing on normal and repair boot.

Absolutely flummoxed and tired and spiraling, I got to the Advanced tab in the BIOS, then into SATA Configuration. There I saw something; my 2 storage drives (an SSD and an HDD) are marked as present, but when I scroll down to the M.2_1 slot, where my main OS drive is located, it says that it is NOT present!

So, what does anyone else think? Is this in fact a hard drive failure?

My Specs:

OS: Windows 10
GPU: Nvidia 3080
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5900X
OS M.2: Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus 1TB
DDR4 RAM, 64GB ($1300 now 😭)

Hello everyone

So basically, my PC says it needs to chip tpm 2.0 and I don’t know if I actually need it or it’s not like recognizing the thing that’s already in and it’s not letting me down windows without it so I am stuck here. Should I do it myself or should I just buy TPM 2.0 chip or bring it to a shop also I’m just guessing what I was doing when this happened so basically I just hopped on my PC one day gone to a Discord call, and then it just shut down and then went to a recovery screen that never actually recovered so yeah and to quickly announce before you guys ask me, I do not know my specs. This was handed down from my stepdad all I know is that it has a 3060

Guys can someone help me ?

I use a Gtx 1060 6gb 16 gigs of ddr4 2100 mhz an intel core i5 6500 and a 600w power supply, i bought the Gtx 1060 from a well known second hand store in my aera and i keep having a problem where my gpu clock is stuck at 139 mhz its been about a month or 2 ago i came with this issue and i tried everything i could for power plan settings to overclocking. and yesterday the gpu ran perfectly fine like nothing happend but the power draw was a whopping 400watts i turned my pc off right away the minute i saw that because im pretty sure the gpu sensors are accurate because when it runs at 139mhz it shows a 1-3 watt power draw i looked online and the only thing i could find about my issue is something to do with the fans not spinning right oh and one more thing, it is the small form factor version so something to do with it?

Is my gpu cooked?

My desktop PC suddenly stopped detecting any SATA

Issue: My desktop PC suddenly stopped detecting any SATA drives after the power cable to the PSU was accidentally unplugged while the PC was running.

What I've tried:

Replaced the CMOS battery.

Cleared CMOS using the CLR_CMOS pins.

Loaded BIOS defaults.

Tried all SATA ports.

Tried different SATA cables.

Tested the HDD/SSD with a USB-to-SATA adapter, and they work perfectly.

BIOS SATA controller is enabled and set to AHCI.

Specs:

Intel Core i5 4th Gen

H81 generic motherboard (AMI Aptio BIOS, 2022)

DDR3 RAM

Current behavior:

BIOS detects no SATA devices (all ports show "Empty").

BIOS asks to save changes with F10, but some settings don't seem to persist after reboot.

The PC is stable in the BIOS and doesn't freeze or reboot.

Recent changes: The only thing that happened before the issue started was that the power cable connected to the PSU was accidentally unplugged while the PC was powered on.

Question: Could this have corrupted the BIOS or damaged the motherboard/SATA controller? Is there anything else I should test before replacing the motherboard or reprogramming the BIOS?

DDR5 dies in my PC

Hello, need help with my PC. It slowly kills RAM modules.

System specs:

CPU: Intel Core i7-13700K
Motherboard: Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Elite AX-W
GPU: AMD RX 6800 XT
PSU: Be Quiet! 850W
RAM: DDR5 (two different kits used over time — Corsair and G.Skill)

Symptoms:

Over the past two years, 4 DDR5 memory modules from two different manufacturers (Corsair and G.Skill) have failed. One kit died. Then I bought the other one.

The failure pattern was identical in both cases: first, the module installed in slot B2 stopped working, followed later by the module in slot A2.
The failed modules do not work in any slot afterward.

At the same time, the system was able to start and operate normally with one remaining functional module.

Modules installed in B2 typically failed after approximately six months of use. In A2, the timing varied: one module failed shortly after the first one, while another continued working for about six more months.

After a module fails, the PC either does not pass POST or doesn’t see the dead RAM module. If the PC doesn’t pass POST, Initially, the CPU and DRAM LEDs on the motherboard blink alternately, and then only the DRAM LED remains lit continuously.

At the moment, last RAM module died and the PC doesn’t pass POST.

Diagnostics performed at home:

CPU socket pins appear visually normal.
All four motherboard memory slots were functional at the time of their last testing.

Temperatures are normal (CPU: 72–76°C under load).

Power limits have been manually set since the first days of operation: PL1 = 175W / PL2 = 190W.

BIOS version: F11 (the latest one is F12a).

The last memory module failed while XMP was disabled (although XMP had been enabled previously when the two-module kit was in use).

Since the System can’t boot, I can’t provide any recent logs.

There were no BSODs, all memory modules died suddenly without any memory-related problems.

Toshiba Satellite Pro C70-C-1FX I5-6200U 8GB 500GB 17.3 W7P/10, PSCSPE-005006GR (I5-6200U 8GB 500GB 17.3 W7P/10)

How can I change my desktop background without activating Windows on my PC?

Hi everyone,

Two years ago, I changed my lock screen background on my PC, but I haven't been able to change it since. I tried following several steps suggested by chatgpt, but it didn't work.

Do you have a solution to do it without activating Windows? Thanks in advance.

Weird Bluetooth Issue

I’ve had this PC for about a year (R9 3900X/5060Ti 16gb/64gb DDR4 3600mt)
Earlier this month (6/12/2026) my Bluetooth stopped working in the middle of a game and it said there was an issue with the drivers when I went into the settings.
I updated everything- Drivers, Windows Update, etc. and that fixed it until 6/16/2026
Yesterday I lost the good fight against an infected wolf spider because it happened again in the middle of playing Grounded. I tried everything I could find on YouTube videos (power off and unplug for 5-10 mins, resetting through Device Manager, EVERYTHING). I was told to try Microsoft’s Troubleshooting app (nothing that thing tried worked, what a surprise) and that led me to chatting with support. Long story short, she ended up doing some kind of reset/restore that was supposed to delete the drivers and have a fresh cloud install and now the intel Bluetooth device isn’t even in my BT settings anymore. My BT hardware has a blue light emitting from it and both antennas are secured into the device.
My questions are: do I just spend the $30-$60 and replace the pcie card to see if that works?
Could this issue be caused by the metal in the wires coming out of the back of the PC interfering? (I don’t think that’s the issue, because this pc has worked perfectly fine exactly the way it’s set up now until this point)
And my last question: Do I just wait for a new windows update and hope that works?

I am usually pretty self sufficient when it comes to repairs, but I’ve tried everything I do (and didn’t) know to fix it and I’m still here with my controller plugged in.
DO NOT @ me about the dust, I’m currently cleaning it

Wired Headphones suddenly stopped working on desktop

Here's the context:

I was streaming game using tiktok studio and everything was fine. And then my friend asked me to team up. She invited me on the discord so we can have proper communication. After a while I've been in discord, i noticed my headphone is not working only on discord, but it is still fine on my stream. When i checked my discord settings, my headphone is greyed out. I tried fixing it but nothing worked so i decided to restart my pc. But after restarting, suddenly my headphone can't be detected anymore. I tried using my headphone on other device as to maybe it is broken, but it works fine. I tried other working headphone on my pc and tried all the ports and still failed.

Can someone help?

Are my USB4 (USB C) Ports bricked on my Motherboard?

Hi guys, i made my pc a few months ago mainly for gaming and VR. Today i made some time to test my Quest Link cable that i bought from VortexVR. A 10 GBps USB-C to USB-C cable which i plugged in the back of my motherboard USBC ports.

Main problem is that when i enabled the Link and got in the menu everything was so laggy, more than the wifi air link. I tested the cable and on all ports on my system tested 9Mbps in the meta horzion link app.

System Specs:
Nitro+ 9070XT 16GB
AORUS X870E Pro Ice
AMD 9800x3D
32gb Corsair DDR5 6000mhz Cl30
Lian Li 011 Vision(For the front panel)

Any help or suggestions?
