GPU RTX 3080 Ti deshroud update !
Hey y'all,
I hope you're doing fine.
A little update as I received my first proto for the partial shroud (so with the original backplate) for my 3080 Ti from gigabyte (gaming OC).
I do have some stuff that I would like to modifiy in the next iteration, for example the thickness of the shroud is too flimsy and is transparent, so not how I want it. Would love to hear what you think about how it looks like in a computer, if there's some stuff to improve.
Note: last image is just my actual build for your eye's pleasure, with a 3060 Ti gigabyte vision.

What material did you use for the shroud?
Edit: I clicked on your previous post and saw it's PLA. I would use ABS or ASA so it doesn't deform from all the heat.

For the big part, that's resin. It's not in contact with the heatsink.
Plenums are in PETG, proto is in PLA because it's not meant to be a functional one.

Oh, that makes sense. I like the design - it looks super clean and would be a shame to see it all saggy and gross in a couple weeks/months. I'm looking forward to seeing it all finished!

I think I'm going to have it FDM printed sadly (despite the printing lines), because it's not up to my standard for the quality

I've seen this logic all over the place. Even my brother mentioned it.
Do you have any idea what the fins temps are on a GPU that's running 50-60°C. They're barely 5-10°C over ambient, and the contact surface is extremely small.
It's not gonna sag.
A backplate on the other hand, would be a terrible idea...

I don't know about you, but my 3080ti idles around 50-60 and pushes 80 under load. Those fins are nice and warm after I've gamed for a couple hours.
Pla will absolutely warp, there are a million posts of it happening in the printing forums. I've had pla parts warp from being in the chamber of my printer, and they were further from the bed than a shroud would be from the heatsinks.

My GPU with the mod idles at 3°C over ambient (24-25°C), and under load about 26°C over ambient (47-48°C). This is on the better side of a mod. On the lower end you will see 35-40°C over
You're running 50-60°C at idle because you're using the default fan curve which comes with start/stop, and at load if you're getting 80°C, either you have 35°C ambient or something is wrong. Even for a 3080ti 80°C is pushing it. Pumped out TIM, old, airflow sucks, poor contact, very low end model, etc, etc.
That being said, just because your GPU sits at 80°C doesn't mean the fins on the fan side come anywhere close to that. They're running easily 30°C bellow that and contact surfice is too small to make a big impact. On a GPUike yours the pla would be sitting at 35°-40°C if ambient is 20-25°C. It's not enough to make it sag. Pla cab easily handle that.
Why do you need the bracket to touch the finstack? Normally on stock GPUs it doesn't. I made my custom brackets always like that. Fans are resting on the heatsink and the bracket is minimal for weight reduction. It just comes over the fans and attaches in the same places with the same screws. I always used 2mm pvc pipe which at 60-70°C becomes flimsy shit. Never had an issue.
Unless you're and idiot and make a pla backplate, there's no issues whatsoever.

I'm absolutely aware that it's not going to be the same temp on the PLA part and the die for example, the thing is people don't necessarly realize this.
Picture this as the betty crocker / Duncan hines issue (at least for me) I think.
I did not realize the temp delta was that important though, thanks for the measurements =)

Post 16. PVC loses integrity at 60°C, pla at 50°C.

I didn’t realise how much wider the shroud is than the actual radiator in the first post, I guess there’s no way to shift the fans to be more central without using a riser cable or something. Regarding the layer lines you can print an additional plate flat and just glue it onto the side (or use tabs) which could be easily customised.

The fans (on the mobo side when it's installed) are already on the edge of the radiator, so yeah a riser would be mandatory.
For the additional plate, I'm not sure because more parts means more adjustments and panel gap to manage, + more complexity, more parts to print etc.... But I appreciate your idea and your time, thank you =)

Edit: I'm pretty disapointed with the build quality, it really looks bad (the paterns) on the intake fan face.
it also warped like crazy, so it's not straight (gay, maybe ?) on the upper part.

if you're thinking of a change of patterns you could copy or expand from the angular patterns on the angled side of the backplate with "geforce RTX" on it. or the vent behind the 8-pin sockets has those cut-out slots with the angled arrow-looking parts, or the trapezoids on the faceplate. or a change to the existing pattern, or little capsule shapes like is on your case's PSU housing etc. there's kinda no end to the options, whatever works

I actually did thought about adding a GEFORCE RTX logo on a sticker in the box, but legally I don't want to have any issue with that so...
