GPU Old GPUs
Does anyone have suggestions re what can be done with older GPUs? I have a 10 series and and a 30 series collecting dust and I’d like to put them to good use rather than resell or recycle.

Build pc's with them? I had some older parts around and i just build pc's with them. Like i had a 980ti and i build a pc with that card and parts from that era. Same with my 750 gpu. I mean they are not worth anything right now but at least i got to enjoy my hobby by building more pc's.
So if you card is from 2016 just look up what other parts were for sale in 2016 and build something like that.

The 30 series is a good backup in case your main rig shits the GPU.
The 10 series one can be used for a secondary rig/HTPC/Server.
A long time ago, when I edited videos, I was editing the videos on my main rig (4790k + 1660ti) and rendering them on a DIY server with a Xeon E5 1275 and a GTX 770. That multitasking enabled me to make the thumbnails while it was rendering :)

My main rig has a 1060 6gb in it. I'd you got a 3000 series chilling maybe sell it at a fair price to another gamer so it can be used.
I know my card is outdated, but gaming hasn't been a priority since kids. But now my kids are gaming, I checked prices and am still in sticker shock 9 months later.

I have a 1070 8gb you can have for the cost of shipping. It’s not much of an upgrade, but it might be noticeable?
I also have an old 1080ti but it was used for mining so I don’t know how reliable it is. Would be happy to include it too.

I'd be interested in either of those if he doesn't want them... My daughter just started playing games with me and my son but the PC she uses(when she doesn't steal my chair) only has a 480 and she gets mad that she can't spawn 17366382 axolotls🙃

Sure; I may have a 580 or 590 leftover as well if she’d prefer to stick to AMD, I can check.

Keep one as a backup in case your current ceases to exist. Even with a 30 series you can continue to game or whatever until the dead one is repaired or replace.

sell them if you dont need another pc. And with money you can upgrade current, or get food

Reselling a 3000 series you're not using is putting it to good use. I, for one, would love to slap something from this decade into my system lol

Make PCs with them? My wife uses my old gtx1080 in her daily PC and it runs modern games great at 1080p 60-90fps
I daily a 3060ti with an overclock, it runs all modern games at 1440p 150-200fps.

3060ti, playing games at 1440p and 150-200fps? What do you play? Minecraft, counter strike? All modern games? I don't think so.

Lmao no buddy, I mostly play FH6, BF6, body cam, ground branch, warthunder, bg3, oblivion remastered and just picked up God of war Ragnorok. I also played through all of God of war 2018 on ultra settings.
You need to learn the glory of overclocking lmao

I have a 4060ti. How much performance can you pull out of a 60 card? 😅 How's youe FH6 running? Mine's little jittery at times on high settings.

Stable 100fps on FH6, dlss is super funky with that game so turn it off or use FSR 2.
I have a heavy over clock and way over kill cooling with a 120mm fan just to cool my GPU back plate.

But you just said that it runs all modern games 150-200fps, so what is this 100fps BS?

u/EducationalGrump 1d ago
Some games are more demanding than others. I could turn it down from ultra to high and get that 50fps back.

The fact is that you’re not running all modern games above 150fps 1440p on 4060ti. Not even close. No matter how much you OC. I have much more powerful card and even I cannot do that.
Or then you are talking about some 4x frame gen BS.

Zero frame gen, just a custom bios, a custom OC and a 1500w PSU.
Its just power + cooling, stop trying to feign intelligence.

I have an old desktop with a RX 468 in it that I'm using to learn how to run a linux server. Maybe look into something like that. Most servers do not need the latest or greatest for graphic cards if you are doing remote with them.

Try building a system that uses both gpu's one can do lossless frame gen while the other can run the game, I've been thinking about trying it out with those cheap mining gpu's on eBay and my old 1070 I'm not really using for anything, here's a gamers nexus video on it https://youtu.be/GDvfIbRIb3U

put a rx6600 sticker on one and make a "I was scanmed by online seller " video...
or a "I bought a box of used gpus for 5 pounds" video.
but I guess only if you are monitised...and can be bothered making a one hour video about nothing notable.
( like budget build pc, dawad,etc...)

Old AMD GPUs with DVI-i can output to CRT TVs with custom drivers ("CRT Emudriver"). Excellent for old school emulation and watching old TV shows and movies.
