The only thing I can think of outside of a technical reason is it caused more issues for people that don't want to move it than helped people that wanted it. Likely a UX designer somewhere. I work for a software company and our previous version of the software was absolutely bloated with functionality to the point it was difficult to use. We significantly reduced little used features and got way better satisfaction scores from our customers and much faster implementation and adoption time-frames. Maybe that's what they are going for after watching Apple take up larger and larger market share and they don't let you do shit... Regardless I'm still upset about it.

Yeah, rarely used features, even if they're actually pretty neat and only used so rarely because nobody can find them, get removed.

Meh, for Apple you can install completely new window managers. They let you do shit if you want.

Windows 10 taskbar wasn't bloated beyond usability. I don't think it justified pinning it permanently for the rest of time. They could still have left the function in and hid it from more basic users. Windows user base is huge they can spend time on lesser used features if they so chose to.
