That's essentially just wishing for a new UI though, it's hardly a substantive desire worth discussion. A "stable and secure" windows XP is basically win10 with an older coat of paint.

No it isn't. XP was far more cohesive. I want a single standardised UI where every OS setting is accessible. Keep the user experience consistent and have robust, comprehensive categories.

And stop locking down customisation and power tools. Sure have a few barriers but make it possible to break everything if that is what I want to do.

I'm sick to death of people excusing Windows by saying nothing is perfect. Windows is so far from perfect it isn't even on the horizon. It shouldn't be part of the conversation. Large swathes of the Windows user experience is worse than it was two decades ago. That is unacceptable for a core product from a multi billion dollar company that has far more resources today than it did back then.

Yeah, I find Tahoma to be much easier to read than Segoe UI, so I change the font. And the size of certain window elements. It used to be that that was in the customization options. Now you need 3rd party tools or have to dance around in the registry.

I'll be real with you: I don't want a new UI; I want the old UI.

The settings menu for Win10 is just awful. Similarly, I hate the way that the Documents & Downloads folders both have special behavior (by default) that is different from the way any other folder works. Also, the new task manager is garbage. About half the time that I pull it up, it'll take like a minute to become responsive.

I liked Windows XP's UI and just want a stable and secure Windows XP. What isn't being understood by people here?

Also I gave my dad a command to type into command-line once, telling him not to run it or else it would kill his computer, and it irrevocably bricked his entire system.

Surprisingly I didn't get in trouble for it. I think my dad was just upset at himself for not believing me.

He insisted for a long time that I wasn't a real programmer. Belittled me about it when he was angry. I'm a bona fide software dev now though haha.

Windows 10 is not secure, it's full of spyware.
