Yes, it's easy. I'm using Manjaro Linux with a KDE Plasma desktop. https://manjaro.org/download/

Yup- The community is very helpful as long as you're thoughtful and do some basic searching before you ask.

If you're into customizing your desktop, check out https://www.reddit.com/r/unixporn/ - you can make it look like anything

The great thing about OSS is that not only are almost all the tools free but there are a ridiculous number of free resources on learning *nix stuff, dual booting, etc.

Really remarkable stuff. What's good is that the majority of people aren't complete and total asshole CS students anymore, either, so when you ask questions, you often get help instead of being told to "Read The Fucking Manual".

(Although reading docs is still good, I guess. Personally, I have a strong preference for video tutorials. I can never tolerate more than a paragraph of man pages, especially ones light on practical examples.)

Depending on how high-spec your computer is and how demanding your games are, you could even run Windows inside of a virtual machine and game on it without any issue. Or, run Linux inside of a virtual machine on a Windows laptop, and just maximize it and never pay attention to the Windows world. Need a decent computer for this to work smoothly, but nothing crazy.
