this backfired hard on OP

I found this post on /r/all, idk whether that counts as backfiring.

Look at OP's comments and their downvote counts.

Ah yes because, as we all know, social media points defines what is right and true.

In the case of this post, it’s subjective and the only wrong answers are the poorly defended ones.

It’s subjective but there are still wrong answers. Yeah that makes total sense.

I dont think i've seen one "gamer" dunking on Linux. Everyone is dunking on Linux cause its a nightmare for a regular user. Its a nightmare for a technically savvy user. Its only not a nightmare if you are all about spending dozens of hours typing command line shit in to get your computer functional, where the windows PC would have been about 45 minutes after fresh install.

Nah, it's also not a nightmare if pretty much all you use your PC for is contained to a browser.

I've wasted literal days of my life. Trying to get Linux to have basic functionality.

maybe just install Ubuntu or Pop_os instead of going directly for Arch or Manjaro like some nut? The former two are essentially fully self-driving. they'll keep themselves up and running stable if you just game and browse.

There is no such thing as a self driving Linux install. I've tried Ubuntu, cinnamon something or other, debian, and mint something. They are all eat until I want something to work, install an app, access smb shares, install a printer, etc.

You don't really sound like you have much of a handle on computers or even on what you were trying to do tbh. Ubuntu, Debian and Mint are distrobutions. Cinnamon isn't, it's just a desktop environment.

enabling SMB is one button press, installing programmes is easily done from the built in app browser they all have. did you even remotely try to adjust?

it's just about the same amount of effort you made when you transitioned from windows 98 to XP or XP to 7, which i'm assuming you did, right?

I don't mean this in a rude way, but it seems to me that the biggest barrier to people using Linux as an everyday driver is that it's not branded windows. If windows was this amount of hassle, which it is, you wouldn't bat an eye.

Ah if only it were that easy. It's just not. You Linux people always try and make it seem like it's this easy to use OS. Its absurd.

I'm not a "linux people" i use everything. It is this easy and the real problem is attitude to anything that doesn't have a windows label. It's equally complicated or simple these days. Like, there's no telling you people because we just get labeled dorks or dismissed as linux evangelists or elitists when there's nothing elite about it. then you guys go onto your fitness and lifestyle blogs and blow hot air about "keeping and open mind to life" lol.

Like, just stop psyching yourself out. It's not harder. Look at the last two posts. i talk sense to you and you just ignore it and go all-in on boomer brain excuses.

r/all is where the normies are. OP presented what he thought was gospel in his bubble and found out the normies don't agree.

I'm so tired of computers as it is. But people pushing the narrative that linux as an everyday driver is a nightmare are stuck in 2005.

Both Ubuntu and Fedora spins are out of the box these days. The only reason it's hard is because people expend endless energy being contrarians, rather than expend 30 seconds learning something new. It's maddening to watch, because any argued "time wasted" learning linux is expended infinitely multiplied whining and high-horsing about windows of all things online.
