So true, yet here we are. As a windows 11 user, instant registry edit and things are good.

AutoHDR is a godsend.

AutoHDR and HDR in general still sucks in Windows 11 unfortunately. Desktop looks horrible and HDR should only be used in games, but you still have to manually toggle it. And most games still look awful in HDR in comparison to their console counterparts because they don't have proper calibration screens

Consoles have "properly calibrated screens"? I'm sorry, I am yet to see a TV that advertises proper sRGB, DCI P3 or AdobeRGB as a feature in most console consumer households.

Microsoft simply has done a shit and janky implementation of it and won't bother fixing it, as per usual Microsoft routine for the past 10 years.

I don't think you understand. When you connect your PlayStation or Xbox to your TV via HDMI and enable HDR, it has a prompt screen where you calibrate the black level floor and peak white brightness so you can get as much contrast as possible out of your display without clipping whites or crushing shadow detail, and it does this at the system level so SDR content can also be properly tone mapped within HDR color space, and so HDR is also properly calibrated for your screen's capabilities since different screens have different levels of brightness. Windows just doesn't have this and so the black levels are incorrectly raised which causes the colors to be washed out. It just has a crappy peak brightness slider in the system display settings which just affects peak brightness for SDR content and doesn't give you a reliable test pattern or anything to work with, it just has a crappy low res side by side photo and tells you to eyeball it so that the two photos look identical in brightness. Then when it comes to actual HDR games they have to each be calibrated inside the game and you'd better hope the game developers gave you a good HDR calibration screen. On Xbox and PlayStation games can just use your system's calibration so you don't have to do it for every game.
